Can't fill every need with a star every year. My point was that Griffin still has a bit left in the tank, is a former Pro Bowler and posted the 2nd best numbers last year of all our d-line players. That ain't too bad. I agree he's getting older, but I think he can still play.

While I'm no Salary Cap expert, I can recognize an outdated list from the beginning of last season.
I was giving an example. WHether it was last year or this years didnt matter. I was simply making a point to a fellow poster how the Skins have been throwing away money.
Which only disproves your point even more. You'll notice the dead cap number is decreasing, not increasing. That is a good thing. It means the Redskins are not doing business as usual. Which was your complaint. Which has no basis in fact. Unless you care to complain about history.
In my original post. I complained about the possibility of us getting WIll Demps. Which is what this thread is about.
I do not like us signing an average at best player. If we do sign him I do not want this team overpaying him which is what scares me. Look at the list again. We are paying mediocre talent all on that list. Todd Wade???? Antwan Randle El???Renaldo Wynn??? Mark Brunell???
In my opinion we shouldnt pay for mediocre players. Which is what the list clearly shows.
In my personal opinion there are alot of mediocre players on the squad getting overpaid on this team.
Hero, what thread have you been reading? Demps has re-signed with the Texans as already posted. Move on.
Ok good point. I wasnt aware he was re-signed. Thank you for pulling my head out of the garbage can. LOL

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz [David Elfin]
Just chatted with Redskins front office boss Vinny Cerrato. We're more than a week into free agency and Cerrato is holding firm to his stand-pat stance.
"We have no visits scheduled," said Cerrato, even though he admitted the market had started to shake out, bringing the price down on free agents.
Asked if he had any interest in Takeo Spikes, a former Pro Bowl linebacker was who cut by Philadelphia yesterday, Cerrato said, "Nope."
Asked about a rumor that the Redskins were going to bring in former New York Jet Justin McCareins in their quest for a big receiver, Cerrato said, "That's wrong."
And Cerrato said there had been no progress in re-signing any of Washington's own free agents (other than backup quarterback Todd Collins, whose deal got done in the first few hours of free agency) such as punter Derrick Frost and kick returner Rock Cartwright.
Although Cerrato confirmed the Redskins have about $8 million in salary cap space, he said that they currently only plan to sign players to minimum salary deals.
In sum, it's quieter at Redskin Park than at 3 a.m. on a weekday in downtown Berryville.
Yes, the Redskins might land a compensatory third-round pick in next month's draft for losing guard Derrick Dockery to Buffalo last March, but counting on rookies to significantly upgrade the roster when you're picking 21st is a longshot.
Maybe November pickup Anthony Mix is the big receiver the Redskins have been missing. Maybe holdover Matt Sinclair and a draft pick will provide the necessary depth at outside linebacker. Maybe Pierson Prioleau will return to provide experience behind young safeties LaRon Landry and Reed Doughty. Maybe the Redskins will finally draft a starting defensive end, some competent offensive linemen, a fourth corner and a third-string quarterback.
That's a lot of maybes for a team that competes in the same division with the Super Bowl champions (the Giants), the team that had the NFC's best record in 2007 (the Cowboys) and the team that won the NFC East in all but one year from 2001-06 and signed the best free agent on defense (the Eagles).
But then after covering the Redskins and/or the NFL for more than 15 years, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
From UK's post.

Rock re-signs with us today as well for a 3 year deal.
I will post here instead of having its own topic:
Its about 1m per year. No sb info given but I'm sure he got something b/w 1-2m.

Redskins agreed to terms with Rock Cartwright on a three-year, $3 million contract. The deal includes a $300,000 signing bonus.
Cartwright wasn't hoping to get interest from other teams, but it didn't happen. He'll continue to be Washington's third-string running back and special teams pro. Washington has the makings of an excellent running game.

Per David Elfin of the Washington Times, it's a three-year, $3.55 million million deal with a $300,000 signing bonus, a roster bonus of $300,000 due this year, and a roster bonus of $200,000 due in 2009.

The crazy thing is thats not even close to the amount of money he wanted to get. But I am truly happy to have him back on this team.

Hey Fleetus, I resent that! Nah, just kidding!
Anywho, this has been a really boring offseason. It´s probably for the best, but still very very boring...

He was asking for a lot for a teamer, he's a good number 3 back and has been what we all always ask for (a player we drafted that produces and stays with the team), but it's a reason he's #3 and Betts was signed before he hit the market.
At any rate his depaeture would have been felt on the field and in the locker room

Absolutely. I'm still very anxious to see what Marcus Mason can do (he is also a RB/KR) but Rock is a team leader and still contributes massively on special teams, including kick coverage. He was inexpensive and definitely worth re-signing.
Under the terms of his new deal, Cartwright, a six-year veteran, will receive a $300,000 signing bonus, $500,000 guaranteed, with a base salary of $605,000 in 2008, -- the minimum for a player with six years in the league. He will receive a $200,000 roster bonus and a $745,000 salary in 2009 and a $1.5 million salary in 2010.
Cartwright, who made almost $680,000 last season, became a free agent when he achieved performance incentives that voided the remainder of his contract. He ranked sixth in the NFL with 1,339 yards on kickoff returns. Cartwright was believed to be seeking $2 million guaranteed. In an interview Thursday at Redskins Park, Cartwright said he had not received any offers from other teams.

If you mean by that "he doesn't fumble before he's tackled at the line of scrimmage", then I guess you are right.

While he is a leader in the locker room and on the sidelines, he would be emminently replacable on the field. He provides no real upside as a running back, and is an average returner. Had he left, I would have said "eh". That he is staying, I will say "eh".

Yeah, to some degree, I agree. But he was a bit better than average last year, as he ranked 6th in the NFL with 1,339 yards on kickoff returns.

I am too. He's a great leader. You can see his enthusiasim on every play he's in, and sometimes when they pan to the sidelines, you catch a shot of him rooting on his teammates. He's always positive and I think he's a great asset to this team... and we got him for cheap.
Nice move Vinny. What did I just say?

I'm sure many of his teammates are happy to have Rock back, I think he's well liked. Good player and teammate for a 7th round pick.
Wait... ... ... did the Skins actually find some talent in the late rounds?

Why do people invariably feel a need to toss insults at some of these players. While he may seem marginal, I'd ask...
How many pro football player contracts have YOU signed in your life? Have YOU ever even been offered one????
Point? He may not be adequate to play line with the Redskins, in your (probably most) opinions... but I guarantee, he'll kick YOUR butt if you choose to go one on one with him (not the other way around).
Have a little respect. He has done what most of us only dream of.

There was one game, early in the season, where Fabini false started 3 times in crucial situations. It was so bad that my fiance, who knows nothing about football, remembered his name for the rest of the season. For the rest of the season, She invariably would say, "False Start, Fabini!"
That said, I think he settled down and turned in some decent games for us down the stretch.

Would you care to suggest any other reasonably priced, multiple position offensive linemen who know the tendencies of the players on either side of them? They don't exist. Fabini has 127 career starts, including 13 games for the Redskins last season. That means he was starting for all of the games during the Redskins winning streak. I didn't hear anyone complaining then. In fact, we were damn lucky to have him with all of the injured linemen.

Finally a visitor [David Elfin]
An NFL source just told me that Seattle receiver D.J. Hackett will become the first free agent to visit Redskin Park when he comes on Wednesday night, nearly two weeks after the signing period started.
Hackett, 26, caught just 32 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns last year, but he knows new coach Jim Zorn well from their four years together with the Seahawks. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound Colorado product has the size the Redskins have been seeking to complement undersized holdovers Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El.

Maybe Snyder and Vinny haven't actually learned anything. I mean what team wouldn't want a receiver that has missed over 30 games in 4 seasons.
