Portis lives in Maryland? That's a witch of a commute. I find that story dubious. Certainly it's possible but it seems highly unlikely someone would move here out of state and sign up for higher taxes and a long commute in exchange for nothing.
I do not know anything about where Portis lives but Levar lived just outside of Annapolis. I do not think that living in Maryland and working in Virginia is all that unusual.
As far as trading Portis, I would like to keep him on the team but sometimes you have to give up a player that you like in order to get a player that you need. I think finding a good running back is one of the easiest positions to fill on a team. If we are going to trade him lets do it now while we can still get someting good for him
Maybe we can trade him for a good corner and a high draft choice. Anybody want to ask Denver?

We have a surfeit of capable running backs. We could afford to trade Portis because Betts and Cartwright are a workable tandem. I'd hate to lose CP, but I'm afraid that with the poor moves this team has made with draft picks, trades, and free agency, the cupboard is bare in terms of creating a playoff-level defense. Unfortunately, I think a trade like this has to be considered at this point.
Are you serious? The reason Betts has been a backup is because he fumbles. He will fumble at least every other game. Don't get me wrong, he is a good backup.
I think its funny how, everyone remembers his yards. but not the fumbles. (He did have less fumbles than I expected). When something bad happens to CP everyone forgets what he does good and only remembers the bad.
Once our O gets past the 50 he starts smelling the endzone. How many TD's did Betts get that were over 5 yards?
Betts has lots of runs for over 5 yards but only when the blocking is their. CP has gone around the end a number of times and out ran everyone to EZ. He has almost twice the speed as Betts.
And lets not forget that after 4 or 5 games he was 2nd in the NFL in TD's only to LT.

I agree that CP is a much better back at this time then either Betts or Cartwright. Hopefully Betts can be coached out of his fumbling and a little more experience carryiing the ball will make him a better scorer.
But like Springs said, our talent on defense needs to be upgraded dramatically. With only one draft choice on the first day and the ongoing cap problems, I don't see how we can upgrade signfiicantly by next year without making some tough decisions.

I think I will be suprised, like last year. I remember after we signed our FA's, everyone even on the NFL Network they were saying the skins were in trouble with cap.
I think they will do some tricky stuff we wouldn't even think of.
I'm just trying to have faith here.

i think its too important for gibbs to have a more than solid rushing attack to trade a core guy like cp.. i mean we had cp betts and cartwright and we still went out and got TJ. hes not going anywhere and if cp reads these threads i think he would shed a tear over fans talking about trading him.
we love him and he shouldnt even have a the slightest idea otherwise.

My friend said that Portis lives off Georgetown Pike in McLean, VA. His property consists of 2 houses. Clinton lives in one house and his mother lives in the other. My friend said he would be in that area tomorrow and would drive by to see if a "For Sale" sign is in his yard. Stay tuned.

When did this group decide that they were going to "use the draft"?
What is "the ongoing cap problems"?
We are in a slightly difficult position because we need to upgrade with current NFL players and either use the 6 pick or get some other picks with it. Gibbs and Williams are not going to upgrade this team through the draft. They have never looked like they will start rookies. We will "use the draft" this year for depth IMO.
I just do not believe we will trade Portis because he is worth a lot more to us than what we would get for him.
We do have some upgrades needed on defense and it looks like there will not be many "name" players available that both suit what we want and are not most likely to be tagged.
Essentially we need a DT or a DE that can start and will make the rest of the line better. We need a MLB who can lead our defense and is really dedicated to making everyone better. We also need another decent (not great) DB and then we need to draft a future pro bowl player with that 6 pick or use it for some other picks on day 1.
This is not that difficult.
We are going to have to find these players on current rosters and either use that 6 pick to get a future defensive star player or use it to trade for more picks.
Portis is here for this season. This offense needs to do better with who they have AND they can. We need some depth on the line is all.

People, we have been through this ad nasuem, this IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Putting aside the cap implications that make this all but impossible, the Redskins would lose, badly, in any trade scenario given that Portis is coming off two injuries.
Last time: Barring an act of god, Clinton Portis will NOT be traded.

^^^ makes sense to me - we are all in trouble because of what is coming out of a pink flexi straw

Thank you!
Considering that we have traded away many good players in the past, I have to think the Skins would not make that mistake again.
Imagine this. Portis goes to another team and has a career year and makes the pro bowl. The Skins would
really look stupid for that move. I can only imagine the field day the media would have with that one, as they already have so much fun taking shots at the Skins organization.
I agree, Fios. NO WAY DO WE EVEN CONSIDER TRADING PORTIS!

First I want to say I love this site. I have always visited the site, but never became a member. Its great to discuss the Redskins with other die hard Redskins fans, especially now that I have moved to Dallas.
But anyway, trading Clinton Portis would be a big mistake. He is a top tier back when healthy, and adds home run capability everytime he touches the ball, something we cannot say about Ladell Betts. He is also the heart and soul of the team. Look what he did last year when he carried us to the playoffs.
Also, look at the last 4 teams that were in the playoffs this year. All those teams had two quality backs that shared the workload.
Colts: Addai and Rhodes
Bears: Jones and Benson
Saints: Bush and McCallister
Patriots: Dillon and Maroney
Just think what we can do on offense with both Portis and Betts. Our offense will tire a defense out, and just run all over them. Look at how the Bears utilized both backs in the NFC Championship game. The Saints were helpless

Hello skinfan4life, welcome to the site! The thing about a scenario like this is that separate from the fact that it, as you correctly point out, is a bad idea, it's simply not feasible in terms of Portis' cap number and the return the Redskins would get for him. Essentially, it's a horrible idea on almost every level.

What on earth would make us consider trading Portis?

You're in the wrong forum. This is for those who want to wildly speculate about a topic not under consideration and would make no sense if it were.

Are you serious? Where did you hear this?
One of my best friends lives in Maryland and delivers medical equipment. Clinton's grandmother uses oxygen and my friend has been to Clinton's house several times. He says the house is pretty damn sweet. But he says that several of Clinton's family members live with him. Maybe he needs a larger house.
Portis' house
IS for sale.
My friend went by his house today and said he saw a ReMax "For Sale" sign in the front yard.
I really don't think this means much. I'm not sure how it works but I can't imagine they would tell him upfront that they are 100% sure they are trading him and already have a team willing to make that trade. I very well could be wrong, but it just seems unlikely.

Hey forskins,
First of all, nobody here gives a crap what you think and nobody asked for your $.02.
I really could care less if you believe me or not. My post was 100% accurate. I have known my friend for more than 30 years. He would never lie about something like this. He has been to Portis' house several times. He's never met Clinton, but he has met his mother and grandmother.
I'm trying to hold my tongue because this thread is not in Smack, but please go back to a Cowpies message board, you are not wanted here and nobody cares about you or your narrow minded and ignorant opinions.

Fellas, I'd be justified if I moved those last two posts to Smack, I'm not, just keep it civil.

Hey, that post wasn't intended to be derogatory by any means. It was intended to be light-humored, I regret any confusion on this manner to Skinsfreak and the THN staff.
