Folks, on the surface it may be easy to be disheartened after a game like this...but I, for one, am not discouraged.

Yes, our secondary didn't look too good...but a lot of those guys will be cut on the 31st. After that, this will be an excellent game to learn from....which is exactly what preseason is for, right?

That Staven Jackson kid did a very nice job running against the Skins tonight. I am encouraged because the Cowboys were stupid enough to not draft him.

This is not the Redskins team that we will see fielded versus the Bucs....so don't worry people.

S. McCullough was our most productive back tonight with 6 carries for 18 yards and I think he will be a very good dancer unfortunately we have no openings for dancers we need RUNNINGbacks... Simon had no carriers tonight and Betts may have proved he's a keeper if he can make it to the team bus without hyperextending something

all and all the game sucked

The fact that Simon had no carries tonight probably does not bode well for him. It's a shame...but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. (My mom's favorite expression.)

I'm not in the least bit concerned.

I really think Joe Gibbs is not only showing very little of what we'll see in the season, but what little he is showing is never gonna be seen again. I mean, look at how many times Portis ran right up the middle. I doubt very much Gibbs is gonna run him up the middle all the time. Maybe Gibbs is letting the rest of the league think that they can expect a Riggins type of offense, when in actuality, what they're gonna see is the complete opposite. I wouldn't put anything past Joe Gibbs.

Don't worry folks, Joe knows exactly what he's doing.

As has already been noted, I wouldn't put too much stock in this game, though it was hard to watch.

I know the sports bobbleheads like to stress that the third game is the one that counts the most in preseason, but I would like to point out that this is our fourth game.

Conclusions

In my view:

    Brunell is our starter
    Betts will be cut
    Taylor is truly exceptionally fast
Our special teams are a bit rusty but they will be fine
We should hold judgment on defense until we get our starters
Our DB are not fast enough for players like Holt

Who was the lefty kicker of ours who got that fifty-some yard punt???

I imagine Betts will make the team.

Betts will be cut?!?! I absolutely 100% disagree with that statement!! Betts will be our #2 running back with Rock at #3.

I agree but I don't think Russell or Jimoh should be unbacking any bags when the team returns from StLou
Cartwright and Ralph Brown may want to start scouting of teams

They were talking about how religious the coaches were before the game. I just kept telling Scott I didn't think that counted as religion.

I don't remember Buges being all that religious... Gibbs is :)

But what Buges said definitely does not fall under any religious iconology that I can remember ::grin::

I know this is a preseason game but this is our 4th preseason game. Gibbs said last nite, "we took a step back."

We have to execute out there.

Smoot getting burned stride for stride and no ball movement.

We had one good pass rush the whole game.

When we toasted the Dolphins we went against a better defensive team, when we went against the Panthers we also were hanging with a better defensive team.

The Ram defensively suck. Its the preseason but our players arent doing what they are suppose to do and that is execute.

I would have rather taken this loss in the second week not the fourth. :(

I do think the Rams planned for this game because of the horrible loss on Monday. That may had something to do with it. Perhaps?????

The way we loss should be of concern. Our defensive starters didnt play that bad considering we had four defensive starters not playing...Bowen(2nd half), LaVar, Daniels, Barrow. Our rushing defense played real good in the first half...Jackson got over 100 of his 125 yards in the second half. Our secondary was torched but Torry Holt is maybe the best receiver in the NFL.

The thing that concerns me more is the offense. I am wondering if the speed of defensive lineman and backers will be too much for the counter plays that this offense is built on. Come regular season we will see the skins running sweeps and more plays built to Portis' strengths. I am a believer in Joe Gibbs ability to adapt to his players. This is the reason he won before and the reason he will again. We, as fans, must be patient because this will take time. It took many years to screw up and we cant expect a quick fix.

It was ugly but I'm honestly not too concerned:

Ouch.

"It was a very dominating performance by the Rams," Gibbs said. "It just wasn't us, wasn't Redskins football. . . . They dominated every portion of the game and it starts with me right on down."

From the Post. For those new to Gibbs-isms, this is a standard quote, and the most important phrase is "it starts with me".

He will never bash individual players in public. He will never blame the players for a loss.

And it is genuine.
