What are we up to now...6/7/ interviewed? Makes me wonder if we are looking at someone on one of the final four teams? Raheem Morris?

Because he can refuse any offer. It's the '17 Skins, man, not the '85 Bears.DarthMonk wrote:Kind of wondering why we have not made Pettine an offer he can't refuse.
They can only deny in a lateral move, not for a job upgrade.chiefhog44 wrote:The question is why could we be waiting. Few ideas. 1) We are waiting for Gus Bradley to make a decision. 2) we are trying to work out a trade package for Paul Guenther. 3) we are waiting to interview one of the coaches from the final four teams.
So if #3 is the answer, I'm hoping Brian Flores from the Patriots would be considered. The guy has been a defensive assistant, Safeties coach for 3 years and a linebackers coach this year in the Patriots system. He will replace Mike Patricia once he's plucked for a head coaching gig. If the Patriots allow us to interview him, which is a big if, I'd say let's beat them to an up and comer.
Actually they can block any request unless it is for a head coaching position. Example is the Dolphins blocking Chris Foerster from interviewing with the Rams for OCDeadskins wrote:They can only deny in a lateral move, not for a job upgrade.chiefhog44 wrote:The question is why could we be waiting. You're right. I just looked it up. I thought the lateral move thing was true for all coaching spots, not just HC. Do coaches have a union. Seems like they might want to bring that up in their next CBA.chiefhog44 wrote:Actually they can block any request unless it is for a head coaching position. Did I really need to put CAN'T REFUSE in quotes?Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Because he can refuse any offer. It's the '17 Skins, man, not the '85 Bears.DarthMonk wrote:Kind of wondering why we have not made Pettine an offer he can't refuse.
I knew what you meant. I think someone in the front office left the gun and took the cannoli.DarthMonk wrote:Did I really need to put CAN'T REFUSE in quotes?Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Because he can refuse any offer. I'm thinking ...
Why would he interview if he weren't interested?
He is so freaking excellent so make the freaking offer.
So the only reasons I'm coming up with are ...
We didn't make an offer ()
We low-balled him (![]()
)
I'm thinking Jay is too involved.

Manusky to the Redskins, since he'll be the only option left when they stop playing *f$ck* around and offer someone the job.DEHog wrote:Bradley to the Chargers!
not that that's a bad choice at all ... The known list of DC interviewees for the Redskins is as follows:Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Manusky to the Redskins, since he'll be the only option ...DEHog wrote:Bradley to the Chargers!
Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Redskins have promoted OLB coach Greg Manusky to D.C. two sources confirm. First reported by NFL network.
It could be worse. Manusky is respected, has actually played defense for the Skins, and will probably go back to a 4-3.Hooligan wrote:Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Redskins have promoted OLB coach Greg Manusky to D.C. two sources confirm. First reported by NFL network.![]()
Looks like we winners still don't want to come here. Our coaches leave for greener pastures and we can't replace them, so we promote mediocre replacements from within. It doesn't look good.
If that's true, then Jay Gruden should not be the HCEA7649 wrote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000777317/article/redskins-promoting-greg-manusky-as-dc
I'm kind of disappointed. I wanted Bradley, but we were slow on the punch. I don't know how this will drastically improve the defensive coaching. Hopefully there are better players for him to have, when probably using the similar schemes to Berry. We are staying 3-4.
With Gruden making the decision. I think he didn't want to hire a threat to take his HC position. And Bradley wants to be a HC.
I believe I heard it on csnmidatlantic that Jay will make the decision, but the front office will also help decide. When McVay went to the Rams I felt his replacement wasn't going to be a threat to take his job (Like McVay was). I wasn't sure what he was going to do with DC though. But clearly he's doing the same thing. Not a threat. Also we have to remember the defense is rebuilding and is unstable, so its not that attractive.SkinsJock wrote:If that's true, then Jay Gruden should not be the HCEA7649 wrote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... usky-as-dc

No matter who Gruden chooses, the Redskins need to add talent to the defense. There are giant holes at linebacker, defensive line and safety. But the coordinator Gruden chooses needs to get the most out of the talent GM Scot McCloughan assembles.
Kinda thought we were heaed this way...DEHog wrote:This is the reason I think the Skins would look at Manusky.chiefhog44 wrote:I would imagine that a new DC would want a head coach that has a contract lasting more than this year. +! - can we now get Russ Grimm?Countertrey wrote:I'll hold judgement for now... but consider... Manusky broke into the NFL as a player under the tutelage of Richie Pettibone, just like Todd Bowles... Not a bad start.
I don't think we missed on Bradley because we were "slow on the punch" --- I actually think he was our #1 choice but he didn't want to come to DC (like Wade). And honestly, I don't blame anyone that doesn't want to come here as we have one of the 2 worst owners in all the NFL.EA7649 wrote:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000777317/article/redskins-promoting-greg-manusky-as-dc

I do think this will help Su'a though!

Not to pat myself on the back, but, I figured a contract extension was needed to get a long term commitment for Cousins. It's also needed if we end up trading him away.chiefhog44 wrote:I would imagine that a new DC would want a head coach that has a contract lasting more than this year.
