His YAC is horrendous this year and he's nearing the dreaded 30 years old. Against PHI, Garcon was targeted 12 times for 80 yards. Meanwhile, Cousins threw 46 times for 365 yards. Against the "field" Garcon underperformed with a per target average of 1.5 yards less. Now, I have to say that fade in the endzone was unreal. But at the end of the day, I don't want to see Gruden "targeting" Garcon 12 times a game and only managing 80 yards. I prefer the way he has typically been doing it, in spreading it out and getting everyone involved. It makes for a more fluid and unpredictable OFF.

Great point. Didn't consider how much he was being targeted. C00ley has been saying that his route running leaves much to be desired at times. I agree that he needs to do more with what he's being given. Which is more accurate than my point, in that he needs to be targeted more.

Thanks.

Not discrediting them at all for what they've accomplished. I'm just looking forward to having higher expectations for this team in the future.

No good deed goes unpunished…No doubt expectations will be high next year. Gruden will have his work cut out for him, playing the AFC/NFC North, Ari, Car, and a trip across the pond.

Gruden/the OC is/are giving him opportunities ----- Garcon is not taking advantage of them.

To be fair, Kirk's throws haven't always lent themselves to YAC, especially early in the season.

True. But I feel we can chalk that up to mostly not having worked with the 1's all off-season/preseason.

Appreciate it. This year has been bittersweet for me in that I'm seeing my two favorite players, Morris & Garcon, regressing before my eyes. I think this has to do with age mostly. Morris is only 27, but he has carried the ball over 1,000 times in his NFL career and nearly 750 in college --- so basically, when taking that into consideration, he's closer to that 29 year old mark. He also (and I think this is age) doesn't appear to be able to get into full sprint mode by the time he crosses the line of scrimmage like he used to; which makes him FAR easier to tackle.

Garcon is getting caught from behind and I actually agree with c00ley in that on those slants, he's not positioning himself correctly and he is having difficulties catching, tucking, and making his first move in one fluid motion (it should be done as if he doesn't even have the ball). He used to time those routes so he would catch while extending his back leg and body forward (providing momentum); I have seen it differently this year in that he catches it, sort of stops to tuck the ball and sort of plants his foot --- which I don't recall him doing. His first couple steps are slower now also.

Not sure I totally agree with that --- at least when it comes to Garcon. Reed and DJax average 5 YAC, Crowder is close to 5 also. Garcon, meanwhile is averaging 2.3. Now, as a team, we average 4.96 which is 23rd in the league --- so there may be something to this....... well, that or the fact we don't have a primary pass-catching RB who seem to be large recipients of YAC as a whole (and may -- or not, I have no clue -- skew the stat).

But I can say that I have seen a number of passes by Cousins that did restrict YAC; just not enough to consider a concern or a primary reason for why any particular receiver has a disproportionate YAC vs. the field.

I'm just going off the eyeball test. I don't remember who all the throws were to, but in the first half of the year, a lot of Kirk's throws were behind, or at least, not leading the receivers. Now, it may be because Garcon has lost a step, or doesn't run as crisp a route as he used to, as to why he is averaging less YAC than the other receivers. I don't really know. But Kirk's accuracy has definitely improved as the season has progressed. It might be mechanics, or familiarity with the receivers and system, or a combination of all of those.

I think it has to do with him not working with 1's during the off-season and not until 3/4 of the way through the preseason. It takes time for both the QB and the receivers to adjust. Additionally both Jackson and Reed were out for a bulk of the season.

You can look at Jamison Crowder, who worked with Cousins they were both working with the 2's. They had chemistry from the start, more so than with the starting receivers.

Bingo.
