He and Danny then proclaimed RGIII as a pocket passer, to which Shanahan disagreed. Kyle revamped the offense to suit what the owner and start QB wanted. Shanahan was correct in that it didn't work. Shanahan wanted to start Cousins; he was told by the owner and star QB no. Based on games played, our 2011 and 2012 drafts were the most successful in Danny tenure as owner (which isn't saying much). He was then fired.

You can hate him all you want, but you can't say he wasn't wrong. Shanahan is no Bill Walsh. That is a proven fact. Then again, none of Walsh's incredibly impressive disciples were. I don't think many think of Shanahan when they think of Walsh, though.

To interrupt the public flagellation of SJ a little, I'd thought I'd address this. Everything that comes out of Shanahan's mouth is tainted. It contains kernels of truth, yes, but they're interwoven with his desire to place blame everywhere but himself. RG3's knee was ruined in that 2012 playoff game. Shanahan has said it was all RG3s decision to play, when in fact, the role of a coach is to tell a player (obviously hurt) "GO SIT ON THE BENCH NOW." Instead, he didn't.

He didn't manage the RG3 relationship at all, or manage to develop him as a player. He came into the NFL with blinding speed, a big arm, and a total inability to play at a actual NFL quality quarterback level. Right now he has some speed, a bum wheel, a big arm, and a total inability to play actual NFL quality quarterback level. Three seasons later, he hasn't developed at all. Part of that is on RG3 of course, but it's also on his coaching. For example, it's just flat out irresponsible that RG3 (who needed to learn a lot) didn't have a QB coach until now.

Shanahan's only goal in saying what he's saying now is to absolve himself of any guilt with regard to his tenure as a Redskins coach. But for those of us who remember, he was an awful coach. He's a disingenious slime ball.

That's why I want to punch him.

I've seen you write that a couple times about Griffin not having lost a step. Does everyone agree with that? I've heard some of the radio guys like Brian Mitchell say over the past year that he's still fast, but that he's not the same as before the injury. I couldn't say for sure, but it would be pretty surprising if he was.

Sorry to pile it on, but come on. You're talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Gruden put out the company line and did everything he could to try to turn Dan Snyder's sows ear into a pocket passing silk purse but unfortunately it doesn't look like Robert has sufficient spatial intelligence to process fast enough despite all the reps and all the encouragement.

Maybe if he passes the concussion test he'll ge released and a team that runs the read option will pick him up and he can have a fresh start. I think with a 16M contingency contract Griffin is going to have recurring concussion issues until after he gets his 2016 Redskin payday and will not pass it until 2017.

so it looks like you were wrong .... again

I am happy to be wrong. Happy that Griffin is healthy and happy and impressed he didn't turn this into a 16M wound with his NFL prospects fading to black. Now the Skins will probably wait a decent interval before activating a practice team guy they can use and releasing Griffin.

I think we cut Griff this week with Breeland taking his roster spot. Keeping him risks the chance of an injury.

 why - I'm having too much fun ... seems like Darrell Green wants to weigh in on this as well ...

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foo ... or-success

"The first time that Robert Griffin III stepped on the field he was not only rich, but he was famous. Incredibly famous. More famous than any player [on the team] and he had never even taken a play," he said. "That's a different ballgame. That's a different management level, and a different need for management skills. Both personal and relational. I think that he's made mistakes. And I'd say the mistakes he's made have not been with his feet or his arms, they've been more with his mouth.
I think the same thing in terms of the leadership of that franchise. A lot of guys on that coaching staff and that FO made mistakes."

The point: Back in the day, young players -- even high-round drafts picks -- had more opportunities to grow into their jobs because there was no 24-hour news cycle, nor the ability to record and upload a player's every move. It really was a simpler time.

And while RG3's fate may already be sealed in Washington, Green thinks the fourth-year quarterback can play in this league if he finds the right situation.

I'm looking forward to watching how this plays out ...
