I know we coulda traded him, but would we really want to see someone of his caliber go for a conditional 7th round pick?

It sounds like he's not even sure he's ready to go play for someone else, could we force him into someone else's colors?

I gotta admit, watching his farewell video was hard, but at the end of the day, he's okay with it; so am I. A class act to the very end.

Would he've stayed if not for Mara stealing our cap space? Hoping the Cowboys CRUSH them next week. Yeah, I said it.

If, as we believe, the Redskins are willing to bring him back at a lower salary, Cooley will have to quickly identify whether another team is in position to offer him a contract and add him to the roster, with only days to go until the season begins.

I don't think that really factored into it.

Why exactly is this a "classless" move though? I don't get that. He's been injured for three years. You may or may not agree with letting Cooley go, but the team released him before final cuts so he has a chance to catch on with another team if he wants.

Are you serious????? This is all the way class-less!!! You don't cut a star like Cooley the week of final roster pairings. Shamehan is classless!!!

He won’t tell you that he knew a couple of days ago that the team actually wanted him to wait till Friday to reveal the news so his release could be announced with the rest of the final cuts, but that he couldn’t stomach the charade that long because of what this place and these fans meant to him. But someone close to him told me that.

Boo Redskins!

So, he knew a couple days ago but couldn't "keep up the charade" that the team wanted him to wait until Friday?

So, why did he wait until today? He could keep up the charade for a couple days, but not all the days?

If the team wanted him to wait until Friday to announce it with the rest of the cuts, why didn't they just wait until Friday to tell him?

Why would it matter if he went out today, or Friday? Was it so he could go out with a group? Maybe they thought they could sneak him out while reading a long list of names and conspicuously cough when they read his name so we'd miss it? If they knew a couple days ago, why not just release him with the other cuts yesterday?

No, I shouldn't ask these legitimate questions that any reasonable reporter should consider before using an unnamed source. I should just take Mike Wise at his word and be mad at the team for being so mean to Cooley...

Get this, Cooley said: "today, FOR THE TIME BEING, is my last day as a Redskins"

What is: FOR THE TIME BEING???

Is he going to go with his heart and re-sign with Skins for a lesser contract?

Until he retires?...

Hope not, but might be.

Man this is a shocker for me. I really thought he was going to be on the team. Just got to say thanks for all the good times CC. You always gave it your best out there.

I want to see Cooley come back. However do whatever is best for yourself Cooley. I appreciate those hard fought yards you got for this team especially against the pukes.

I predict that CC comes back to Skins for lesser $......(just hopeful and wishful thinking)

BUT....I've been wrong before

LOL.. yea DS, that's actually what I meant.

Thanks for the answers though.

Isn't Santana the last "original" player on offense from the doom years? @ doom years like we're outta the woods already.

Chris Sammuels. Mike Sellers. London Fletcher and Santana Moss (probably). It's rare, but then again that's the NFL.

I think he meant start and finish here. Samuels fits that bill.

OK. Chris Sammuels? He wanted just one guy, no?

What did I say?

Right. LPJ was looking for just one guy.

And, sadly, that seems to be all he's gonna get.

My take on this is that Cooley met with Mike and said he not only wanted to stay, he also wanted a bigger part

I think Mike said that the team would bring him back if he cannot get a starting job elsewhere

I doubt that Cooley's just going to try and get a spot on a team - if he cannot find a starting job, he'll play here

maybe this is just wishful thinking - I just know there are going to be more than a few times that he's going to help this offense

Maybe the reason Cooley won't say those things is because they aren't true.

Y'know like

Mike Wise won't tell you he murders hookers...

Or

Mike Wise won't tell you he has a fetish for midgets in spandex...
