Oh wait, there are a few lineman and receivers in free agency we can grab and if they don't work out we can just blame Danny boy..
Maybe it's me, maybe Im mad but I just dont get it...

That happens often enough that I'm surprised you say this.
We have to wait until after free agency and the draft to make these predictions.
If we just add RGIII, with no other major additions, then no chance we make the playoffs. Improve the oline, add a big-time receiver, and fix the secondary...then you might be looking at a playoff run.
Anybody expecting RGIII to come in here, in this division, and start working miracles from Day 1 is setting themselves up for some serious disappointment.

Perhaps, but I take some positive movement in the draft/FA as a given. I think Shanny/Allen can get the benefit of the doubt here given their overall track record since taking over.
(Isn't it a little unrealistic to assume that people who are saying RGIII could be an upgrade that makes us competitive don't also have in mind a few other FA/draft acquisitions?)
The line between success and failure is thinner than ever in the NFL. We beat the Giants, soundly, twice and were a near-even match for the Patriots. We have a competitive defense and a running game in place. Our #1 bottleneck is the most important position in the game. Add a quality QB, and I don't see how going from 5-11 to 9-7 or even 10-6(+) is a stretch. If we just add RGIII, with no other major additions, then no chance we make the playoffs. We don't need a major OL upgrade to be playoff worthy, though getting another starter could help. A big-time receiver would make us competitive deep into the playoffs but we may not need one to get there.
Of the three needs you list (after QB I agree these are our top three areas of weakness), I see our secondary as most problematic. If we don't upgrade there in FA or the draft in some way, I agree that it will hurt our playoff chances significantly.Anybody expecting RGIII to come in here, in this division, and start working miracles from Day 1 is setting themselves up for some serious disappointment.
I'm not expecting miracles, but then (as I say above) I don't think it's going to take a miracle to see the Redskins competing for a playoff spot next year. That's something that's been a work in progress (and making progress) ever since Shanny got here, IMO.

To expect something like that from RGIII, if he were to even start Day 1, is unrealistic at this point. And even with the record breaking performance of Cam Newton the Panthers still only won 6 games.
There has been no free agency yet, or the draft, so we don't even know how much better we will be, or any of the other teams in our division or conference, so making predictions for the playoffs at this point in time is stupid.
You're missing the point. I'm not expecting RGIII to be Cam or do what Cam did. Substitute Andy Dalton with Cam... My point is that RGIII's ability can elevate the talent around him. Very simple. We were arguably a .500 with Rex, it's not unreasonable to think we could win 9 games in my hypothetical scenario. That's all it is, a scenario.

Huge difference between Cam and Dalton. Cam elevated his team, while Dalton was elevated by AJ Green.

Also, I know Fisher and Shanny are friends, but I don't get where people think that he is going to cut us a deal as a result. Why would he and why would the Rams org. be ok with that? It might give us an edge in the negotiation part, but that's about it.
If the Skins and Browns are offering similiar packages, I'm sure he'll give his friend the deal before someone else. Even if it's a slight difference in what we offer, if he's like most people, he'll give his friend the offer anyway.
I see what you're saying. I guess that could be true if the packages are similar in value. Like the Browns offer their two #1s this year and #3 next year vs. we offer a #1/#2 and next year's #1 or something. Its possible. I was just saying I don't think we're going to get any kind of best-pal-discount on the trade. We still have to make as strong an offer as any other team.
The real advantage I see is that Shanahan maybe has a better line of communication with Fisher because of their friendship. They could be talking about potential deals way before any other teams have a chance. Fisher could also be giving him a heads up on what other teams are offering, who else is in play, etc;
Forgive me, last year was the first time we got to watch the draft over here so I'm a little hazy on the politics of some of it.
So how does it work in our situation...? If Shanny and Fisher agreed to something it wouldn't be announced until the time would it...??? Or can we deal with them now and make an agreement that could be announced in advance of the draft...??
It's called "tampering".....kinda like what happened with Haynesworth (allegedly tampering before due time....)

Yes.
I'm sure you're not the only one, and I understand why you feel that way. But you gotta get over it.
If you could go back to 1998, would you have given up a 1st, 2d,3d and next year's first to get Peyton Manning? We didn't actually have a 1st in 1998, but to put it in perspective say you would have had Peyton Manning instead of Champ Bailey, LaVar, Stephen Alexander, Skip Hicks and Shawn Barber.
Some good players in there, but how many are still with the Redskins?

SouthLondonRedskin wrote:RG3 clearly is showing enough to make people believe he could be a future NFL legend. It is only a 'could be' as every draft prospect has an element of risk, but if one comes along with his talent we need to say we went for it with him rather than 'we could have had him!' as he lifts his third SuperBowl for the Eagles.

Is that English for "I'm catching up with you"...? I like it.
