Every place that I've looked has one thing to say about Locker..... "Has not excelled against Upper Level Competition." Sorry, that's the kiss of death so far as I'm concerned. I don't care if you can crush the sisters of the poor. I want a guy who can crush the USC's, Texas', etc.... of the world, not one who folds like a cheap suit against upper level competition.

From what I've read he has some technical issues and there are questions about the concussion and ankle injuries. Injured players are something I have less than no interest in dealing with in the draft. Period. Full Stop.

Jake Locker is IT for Washington. He has no other talent around him, yet he's still hung in there and had a good season. Shanahan was supposedly enamored with him before Locker decided to go back to school.

What I like about Locker is that his weaknesses (which are still better than the skills of some of the other prospects) are coachable and the things he does well... you can't teach. His football IQ and decision making skills are a bigger knock on him than anything else (though, they're still good, ranked average by Scouts Inc.) and that's one thing you can definitely teach a quarterback.

He has a lightning quick release, a big time arm, he's mobile in the pocket and he's accurate. You can't teach any of those things.

Quick release, big arm, mobile and accurate? I'll take that.

Is he also intelligent, good under pressure, and does he have excellent cardiovascular conditioning?

As long as he has all of the above, and isn't an arrogant cocky little snot, then he sounds like a good prospect.

Before that shoulder injury he WAS the guy I wanted us to look at last year in the draft. After it you couldn't have GIVEN him to the Redskins so far as I was (and still am) concerned. In the salary cap era where you cannot simply cut players who don't pan out, I have less than no interest in guys who come in with pre-existing injuries. It's too much of a chance compared to the amount of money they make. What if Bradford had gone out and re-torn that shoulder while being sacked in Week 3, CAREER OVER. The Rams would have been on the hook for a huge chunk of change and an injury settlement.

This year it wouldn't have been the end of the world with the non-existant salary cap. I'm not convinced the owners aren't stupid enough to put it back in. Then again if they do that, I won't be watching the NFL anymore, so that won't be my problem to deal with.

Locker is "above average" from what I've read about him. "Above Average" is NOT what I'm looking for with the #8 pick in the First Round of the NFL Draft. EXCEPTIONAL is what I'm looking for in the Top 10 of the draft.

Hey, if they draft him it'll just be another Redskins QB I can't root for. That's nothing new for me.

Honestly, who cares what he would have been drafted as last year.

Remember, Brian Brohm? Same could have been said about him 3-4 years ago.

Do you really think you can teach decision making skills and football IQ??? Football IQ is called that for a reason: just like a normal IQ, you can't teach someone how to raise it.

If someone told me that a QB has everything but those two things, I would pass. The great QBs in this league all have those 2 things in common (and a third being that they are HIGHLY competitive): see Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers. I think that the Wonderlic test also has something to do with these things. Generally, the top QBs don't get lower than a 28. The current "top" QBs got:

Rodgers: 35
Rivers: 30
Romo: 37
P. Manning: 28
E. Manning: 39
Brady: 33
Ryan: 32
Brees: 28

Personally, I was very surprised at Peyton's score; I thought he got in the high 30s. Tons of people disregard this test, but after looking at the scores, I find it hard not to use this as a determinant.

Most of the backups and pretty much all of the QB's prior to the last 5-10 years. Including some real stinkers like Gus Ferrotte, Heath Shuler, Jeff George, Tim Hasselbeck, etc.... I was never a fan of Patricia Ramsey or Jason Campbell who I felt were taken way too high without anywhere near enough of a pedigree to deserve those selections.

I just cannot "fake it" to root for players who I don't think should be on the roster. Christian Fauria and David Patten are among the other recent Redskins (non-QB's) who I haven't been able to root for either.

I have no idea who this "pods" you keep referring to is, was, or whatever.

very good point... and my impression throughout the season was that Locker was doing pretty poorly. but again that's just an impression, i didn't really see him play much.

i was pretty impressed with what i saw of Mallet.
