I will lose my mind if this happens. I will really go off if they dont get additional picks in the later rounds....
I'll be pissed if they do get more picks, there is no reason to rush this~!!

If they make this deal I would have to say they are a doomed franchise and not look at joe gibbs as one person. There will just be Joe Gibbs

and joe gibbs

this actually sounds like a good deal to me, they shouldve tried to squeeze out a 2-5 rounder aswell but the 21st pick and an elite CB is good...
am i weird?

If we got one other player in the trade it would be fine but I personally would rather us get a DB with that pick and have him become something great then get bly for that cost.
Basically all I am saying is give us a O-lineman a unproven 2nd year guy, hell and excess kicker but trading the 6th pick for one player that for whatever reason they don't want sound rediculous.

I'm not conviced Dre Bly is, frankly, that good of a player.
Every time I see him play, he's closer to Ade Jimoh and Kenny Wright than to Springs, Smoot or even Rogers.

You can't be serious:
Dre Bly
Ade Jimoh
Kenny Wright
Fred Smoot
I'm not posting Rogers because he hasn't played long enough to make an appreciable comparison. Smoot's stats are the closest to Bly's and Bly is still, clearly, a notch above.

Well, he must be doing these things in games I don't see -- usually, for the Lions, that means Thanksgiving.
When I've watched him play, I've never been that impressed.

I'm still not sure what I think about the possible deal, but more than anything else, Bly would bring the chance for more turnovers. Anyway for the Redskins defense to force more turnovers, especially interceptions, would greatly be appreciated.

I thought that D-Line pressure is what ultimately causes turnovers (INT's). Just about any NFL coner (that can catch) should be able to make an interception off a quarterback who is in distress. But a great CB will only make a few interceptions off a quartback who has all day to sit in the pocket.

I don't think that he is even a top 20 CB, but come on Jimoh and Wright, that is stretching things A LOT. Now he might not be any better than Smoot or Rogers and he deffinately isn't as good as Springs (when healthy). Bly is around 30, will want a huge contract, and will start having injuries (odds are - based on age).
This would be almost as bad of a value trade as CP for Bailey (plus the #38th over all pick) What bothteams are saying is Bly is worth the 21st pick in the draft. He doesn't even improve the team (I'm assuming Springs will be cut or traded for next to nothing)

That Bailey trade would have been a Bailey walk if the pick weren't included.
Bly for Springs and a swap of picks wouldn't be a fair trade. Bly would be equal to a low 2nd or high 3rd. For this trade to be fair the Broncs would have to give up Bly, and their first 3 picks this year for the Skin #6 Only.
They seem to want the #6 pick for some reason, not as much as Bly's wants Bly to be in Washington, but more than the Redskins want Bly, make'em pay for it.

Oh Bly's coming to DC. I bet they are just working out the contract details with Bly and Springs. I think that Springs wants to stay here but he wants the money more. He is one of the guys who lives by the "its a business" slogan. Which I would do also if I were him. This scenario is making things very interesting. Some people say lets wait until the draft but that could come back to haunt us because a few of the teams before us are looking to trade down and we don't really know who Oakland is going to take with the 1st pick. That'll determine a lot.

I think that we can have an excellent secondary. If not, I'm happy with Smoot and Rogers fighting for number 2 and Springs at 1, especially with Prioleau back. I think it will be much improved regardless.
I agree. Giving up our No.6 would be nuts. Our first priority now should be to grab the best DE on the board.

Not to stray too far off topic but we could bring Clark back to remedy this too. We used him as a CB/Safety hybrid also.
S - Taylor
S - Fox
Combo - Clark
Combo - Pierson
Combo - AA
DB - Springs
DB - Rogers
DB - Smoot
I know they can't all be on the field at once but that seems ideal to me.
I'd love to have Clark back. I'd also like AA to be used effectively. The guy's a great asset against the run and could fit into an adjusted system.

roybus14 wrote:With Portis and Moss restructuring, I say go ahead and do the Denver deal if Springs won't budge. We can get a DE at #21 and pick up a G in the third round and let Bugle coach em' up. But make sure that you are clear with Bly on the terms of the new deal before you pull the trigger and not break the bank on him.
The Ryan Clark back is looking more unlikely with the signing of Fox and Preilau recovering.
I think that we are looking good right now. Patience is always a virtue and I think that if we show it, we will see the dividends.
Interesting on Portis and Moss though because it looks from afar like they are creating space to do the Denver deal because Bly may cost a little bit..
There's going to be no impact DE at #21, maybe not even by #12. The Skins don't even like Adams, who's rated the top prospect by many. That leaves Jamal and a bunch who are not worth drafting at even #21.

I am amazed at the opportunities that are being offered for the # 6 pick - now it includes options not just for the team but for the fans as well

What? Are you kidding???
Bly ranks 4th in career interceptions among current active defensive backs, only 6 behind Bailey. Yeah, I guess that knocks him out of the top 20.
Springs a better corner?
Over the last 2 years:
INTS:
Springs - 2
Bly - 9
Passes Defended:
Springs - 15
Bly - 24
Forced Fumbles:
Springs - 0
Bly - 7
My history is a little fuzzy. Where did we rank in pass defense and turnovers last year?

Nope, not kidding. Springs was out or lame for more than half of 06 and his pass defenses are down because of that.
INT are almost always a result of good preasure on the QB, not great DB play. The Ravens lead the NFL with 28 picks and were second in sacks. We were last in the NFL with 6 picks, guess where we finished in sacks (last)? Now Detroit didn't put a lot of preasure on the QB, but they did have 11 more sacks than the Skins. So Bly's old team put more preasure on the QB than the Skins.
Last year Bly was 38th in thr NFL in tackels (CB only), 37th in INts, and 13th in passes defensed.
IN 05 he was 65th in tackles (CB only), 8th in INTs, and 28th in pass defenses.
GW's defenses have historically almost always ranked low in turn overs and sacks.
Pass defenses are a better indication of the play in the secondary.

Until we get a proven pass rush we can't expect any DB to come in here annihilate people.
