This trade, as stated, makes no sense. To restate what others have said...who do we need at #2 that we can't get at #6...and do we need two first round picks more than we need Portis?

On the other side of the coin.
Do we need Dre Bly when Clemtents (who knows GW system) will be a free agent along with Asanta Samuels also going to hit the market

Before anyone says they'll cost too much, remember Bly is due $4.2 million in base salary in 2007 and neither FA would cost that much in year 1 of a free agent deal. And we'd keep Portis

I'm pretty sure you won't be seeing the same GW system next year. It's widely reported that Gregg is sort of agreeing with the general consensus: he's been solved, and it's time to go back to the drawing board. If Clements is an exceptional athlete, fine. If all he's shown is that he can work the Cover-2...then he's just another guy.
I'm anti-Bly, by the way.

He ran alot of Cover two this year due to injuries but his base system is a hybird 46. he won't stray to far from that regardless of what tweaks he may make.

I think you're both right about this D next year - Williams will be adjusting his D because it did not "work" that well BUT I think he just varies what has worked for him off the base 46.

I think we also will see players on D that "fit" better and there will be no more "mistakes" - I think our D will be a lot "faster" next year and will mostly have to look at getting better packages on the field and more time on the fileld from all their players rather than just a few.

I honestly believe it will be very difficult to run against us next year and especially up the middle.

I really do not think we will be seeing Bly here either.

Asanta Samuels is going to be a FA next year...

Hmm, I actually really like him. And since the Patriots have a history of not resigning their key guys, he might be available.

Now as for Clements, I really DON'T want him. For some reason I have a hunch that once we overpay for him and give him a huge contract, he'll bow down and won't care anymore becuase he's making bank. (like Archuleta ) Meaning, I think Clements plays for the money.

But Samuels plays with passion, heart and he's tough. For the right price, I would love to get Samuels.

Actually I was thinking just the opposite. Samuals has done next to nothing until this year (his contract year!), while Clements' performance has been steady and very good his entire time in the NFL. I can't help but think that Samuals would be a bust with the Skins. Dre Bly has actually been more productive than Samuals, but is on the wrong side of 30!

Yeah, Samuel hasn't played well, you know, except for those two games where he won the SUPER BOWL.

Believe me, if you can start in a secondary that has won the Super Bowl, 2 TIMES, then I'm sure you can start in our secondary too.

And honestly, I don't know why I think Clements plays for the money. But he just seems like one of those guys who when he gets his huge deal, he'll just be one of those guys who stops carring.

It is time to get YOUNG!!! No more overpaying for PATHETIC players. Of course, this means revamping scouting and the front office.

Well that's just not happening - this front office is staying! We may get a GM but I wouldn't hold my breath.

maybe this time around, we'll figure it out - I mean everyone just assumes because we made a mistake we'll continue to do it. I know that we have made many mistakes but I also know that next year most of the "big" decisions are going to be made by Gibbs and Williams - I just have hopes that they have learnt from their past mistakes - maybe they haven't but that is who is here and I just have more faith than some others, I guess.

It is the offseason.

When else would the posters get so excited about a silly rumour like this one over ten pages of posts.

OK, I am ready for the next rumour. Bring it on!

Man Portis is the Heart and Soul of the SKins. When he is healthy and playing, the Skins are winning and headed to the playoffs. When he emerges healthy next season and Campbells play starts to take off. The Skins will soar to the top of the NFC.
