My math is not as sophisticated. So let me put it in simple terms:
If Dale is happy, RiC is happy.

Worst trade
Washington Redskins: Gave up a late round pick and inexplicably dealt a second-rounder next year to trade up with the Jets in Round 2 and pick Rocky McIntosh. I like the Miami linebacker, but not that much to give away a big portion of the 2007 draft.

There is no way you can say with any degree of certainty that Rocky would have been there at 53. Get over yourself.
You have no idea what 20 GM's had on their minds about Rocky and you can't convince anyone here that you are a prophet.
What are you basing this on? Some mock draft done by someone else who doesn't know how to evaluate NFL talent."
Unless you are like Ernie Acorsi's nephew...you are speculating. If you did go by a mock draft ranking then go back to it and i'll guarantee that is wrong all over the place.
People also projected UTEP's Thomas Howard to be available there....oh yeah...he went two picks before Rocky.
What don't people understand about the way Gibbs is building this team? He is willing to maximize the draft by only drafting IMPACT players. IF that means trading picks then who the heck cares?
We fill most of our needs with great FA's...you can't do both.
People keep acting as if the GM did everything and Gibbs' only job was coaching. You don't know that. I don't care what 'grade' you or the experts give the guy as a GM...he has 3 Superbowls, took a team to within 1 game of the Superbowl just one year after going 6-10..your memory is that short?
Was Taylor,

ey, or Rogers a bust?? Should we have opted for Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow.
I understand honest criticism, but you are just whining right now...Gibbs has proven that he and his group are very good at evaluating college players. Is it efficient? No, but Danny is the richest owner in the NFL...we are the highest revenue team...we are supposed to spend money and or picks to acquire the best players we can get.
We've Added:
Archuletta
Randel El
Andre Carter
Fauria
Kenny Wright &
Drafted
Rocky McIntosh
Oh yeah:
We also landed Al Saunders, Terry Gray, and re-signed Greg Williams.
And all you have to talk about is trading picks?? Our glass is soo half empty. We had a terrible offseason.

So a sports entertainer says
I like the Miami linebacker, but not that much to give away a big portion of the 2007 draft.
Do we care what the entertainment industry thinks about Redskins players? Or what Greg Williams, Joe Gibbs, and the other coaches think?

Bingo! What NFL.com said:
He is a very, very good linebacker. He played in a great system, and at this point, he was the best linebacker available in the draft. It looks like they might have paid a lot for him, but it was worth it to get the guy they wanted.
No chance he would have fallen, as they said above he was the best LB on the board.
In the first round five LBs were drafted, if you consider Manny Lawson a LB.
Then four of the first six picks in the second round were LBs and they were ALL gone by 38!
If we wouldn't have traded right then there is no way in hell we would have been able to get a LB!

When next season starts it really only matters if the players you have on your roster are ready to play and are suited to the game plan. All the talent means nothing if the player does not fit the schemes that the coaches have devised.
This kid from Miami is very highly rated as someone with a lot of good values and physical abilities. I'm sure that Lindsay and Williams wanted him badly and felt he would make our team better. If he does do that we did not give away too much.
The draft is such a lottery that you really are taking a big chance but it appears that Gibbs wanted this player because of a team need and a strong recommendation from his coaches.
I'm glad we do not choose to make our team better through the draft process but I understand the concern of others about that too. At the end of the day - are we better? YES!

Taylor Jacobs was "good value" as a 2nd round pick. Draft "experts" thought it was a great draft pick for us, expecting him to go in the 1st round.
Boy, he's lived up to that expectation, hasn't he?

TJ dropped to us (maybe we should have let him keep falling, but he was a Gator and S.O.S. was the coach...)
Hopefully moving up in the 2nd to get a 2nd rounder will produce better results than drafting what was projected to be a 1st rounder in the second round

I agree with what you're saying. Im one of those who aren't upset with the pick but moreso with what we did to acquire it. I feel that we've been needlessly liberal in our giving, moreso than other teams.
I can't/wont blame it all on Gibbs because I know he's not the only monkey behind the wheel.
However, just because the SKins have boatloads of dough doesn't mean that its excusable to make retarded decisions. SURE! Imagine how MUCH BETTER we'd be if we could make some of these moves without prostituting our future? (i dont know why I used prostituting

) Maybe Im wrong, maybe Im right, who knows...

Say what you might people:
We are going to have a hell of a good competition for the LB spots in this team. I love that. I really like several of the current LB in the team, the LB drafted, and the LB UFA hired so far.

McIntosh was a safe, smart pick and if moving up in the second round to get him was a wrong move, what would have been the right move.
Obviously, from the coaches point of view: he's an athletic guy from an sttack, pro style defense and has natural instincts. Hummm, sounds just like a G.W type player.
At the point the Skins moved up. there was a run on the quality LB's in the draft. So the Skins sit on their pick and McIntosh is taken by another team, then your settling for second best...
McIntosh will be the starter soon than later and the Lavar type player that Lavar
should have been!
Mark it down, He'll hit the field running in mini-camp and all will be right

Are we really going to question pickin a player from the U? Doesnt anyone consider that taylor, moss etc. practice and played with this guy? This guy will feel like home which will ease his transition to the nfl. He already has chemistry with taylor. A great pick if u ask me.

McIntosh should star for Redskins' defense
The Washington Redskins moved up into the second round of the NFL Draft in order to select former University of Miami linebacker Rocky McIntosh. The Redskins' brain trust, led by owner Dan Snyder, VP of Player Personnel Vinny Cerrato, and head coach Joe Gibbs paid a huge price to the New York Jets in order to acquire the 35th overall selection. Washington shipped the 53rd overall pick, the 189th overall pick, and a second-round pick in next year's draft to the Jets just so they could move up to select McIntosh.
And for good reason.
During his time with the Hurricanes, McIntosh was highly regarded by everyone on the team because of his skill and leadership. He emerged as the captain of the vaunted 'Canes defense, leading their unit to prominence year in and year out.
At 6'2" and 237 pounds, McIntosh has more than good enough size to be a starter on the NFL level. He also ran a stellar 4.61 40-yard dash, which clearly demonstrates his athleticism. McIntosh's versatility also sets him apart, since he can play both outside linebacker positions as well as the inside linebacker spot.
After the loss of three-time Pro Bowler LaVar Arrington, the Redskins found themselves in a quandary this offseason. Washington was in dire need of Arrington's replacement, and they likely found him in McIntosh. Arrington wasn't able to get along with the Redskins' coaching staff at the end of his tenure in Washington, but it shouldn't be a problem for McIntosh. He's the ultimate team player who is more than willing to closely listen to his coaches, and apply their teachings to help his game.
In Washington, McIntosh will have some of the best coaches a young NFL player could possibly dream of. Obviously, Gibbs is among the elite head coaches in league history, and has developed a reputation of being a tremendous influence on young players. The Redskins' defensive coordinator is one of the finest in the game, Gregg Williams. His aggressive schemes, which make everyone on his side into better players, should work wonders for McIntosh, who loves to attack the line of scrimmage. Lastly, McIntosh's position coach, Dale Lindsey, has been regarded as one of the league's best linebackers coaches for years.

I really think that Rocky's versatility and athleticism are getting to help take this defence to new levels. He should help to free up Marcus Washington to rush the passer. A sideline to sideline player who can rush, cover and tackle. A team player, who will work within the scheme.
I have no intention of turning this into a Lavar-bashing thread, but I think we're all going to forget about #56 in a hurry once Rocky gets comfortable with Williams' scheme.

This is kind of a lame reason to like the guy, but I like that he didn't choose number 56. Don't worry about being the next Lawrence Taylor, worry about being the first Rocky McIntosh.

Rocky was solid pick.
I'd rather have had Thomas Howard though, with that 4.4 speed.

Howard was best suited for a 3-4 scheme I believe.
