Looks like everyone else has got it but this is what impressed me. I read this in my Street and Smith's Draft Guide Magazine:
A member of the National Guard; spent six months in Kuwait and a full year in Korea. He will be a 26-year old rookie in the NFL.
I love this pick. So far, I've heard of everybody we drafted.

I agree with you on this Niki. This could be the Mother of all "sleepers". He's going to be a beast. We DEFINITELY want this guy on our team. I can tell already that this guy is a team player.

Robert McCune
Middle Linebacker - Ranked #6
Louisville
ANOTHER PROFILE FROM --ON CLOCK DRAFT
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 245 lbs.
40: 4.50 - Combine
Stats:
2000: Redshirt
2001: 14 Tackles 0 Sacks 0 PBU 0 INT
2002: 48 Tackles 0 Sacks 0 PBU 0 INT
2003: 143 Tackles 4 Sacks 5 PBU 0 INT
2004: 115 Tackles 2 Sacks 4 PBU 1 INT
Robert McCune only has two years of starting experience, having spent two seasons as a reserve and special teams player, after redshirting in 2000. He made the most of his time on special teams and was named special teams player of the year in 2001. In 2003 he finally got his chance to start and really broke out with 143 tackles and 4 sacks. He had another good year as a senior with 115 tackles 2 sacks and 1 interception. Although he does lack ideal height for a middle linebacker in the NFL, McCune has a nice combination of size, speed and strength. He has the speed to make plays all over the field and can be very effective on the blitz. He needs to work on using his hands more when attempting to shed blocks of opposing offensive linemen. He hits pretty hard and is a solid tackler for the most part although he doesn’t always finish his tackles. In coverage he has just average ball skills but he does have the speed and agility to cover most tight ends as well as running backs coming out of the backfield. He served three years in the National Guard and spent time in both Kuwait and Korea, giving him a late start in college. He is older than the average NFL prospect and will turn 26 years old on March 9th. He should develop into a good starting linebacker in a year or two and has a good chance at being selected on the first day of the 2005 NFL draft.

Here's Wingman's profile of him:
Robert McCune
Strengths - Former military man. Has incredible speed for the position. Is all over the field. Isnt afraid to hit.
Weaknesses - Still learning the position. Has to continue to work and get better.
Analysis - Has great speed and flies to the ball. Is still learning the position but may be ahead of the curve.
Prospectus - A relative unknown combined with his lack of experience may him a risky pick but with his speed, he will draw someone's attention.
Miscellaneous - Has speed and will need to continue to improve.
I really like this pick. Wingman and I had him in our top 100 (91) and so obviously in hte 5th is a 'value pick'. Here's my write up for the picks article I'm writing, that I'll post when all picks are done:
Simply a case of taking the best available player left on your list, but McCune is an interesting prospect. McCune started his collegiate career late having served three years in the National Guard. At 26-years old, he is more mature than the average guy coming out of college. He has excellent north-south speed, likely stemming from the fact that he was actually a 400-meter runner early in his Louisville tenure. He was a special teams stand out early on in his career at Louisville, and that could be what the Redskins saw in him that they liked. Having lost Antonio Pierce through free agency, there will be some depth positions available at training camp and McCune's special teams abilities will give him a better chance of making the 2005 roster.
THN had him in our top 100 (number 91) and think it's a great pick in the 5th round. He is definitely a project as he is still learning the position, but his blazing speed make him a great 'diamond in the rough' possibility.

This is a sweet pick in the 5th round...plus a need pick to boot.
A solid ST player for a year then starting for us.
I'm feeling good about the offseason....I know, I'm the only one who's feeling that way!

What do you think we will draft next? DE? WR?

by absinthe1023
Definitely DE: Either Swancutt or Mosley would do nicely here....

Swancutt would be a good pick, he was slated to go earlier in this draft, 3rd round or so...surprised he isn't gone by now.
Maybe a TE? The guy from VA - Estes - is a blocking TE.

I think we are going to take Victor Sesay, TE, Missouri at some point. Either in the 6th or 7th. He has great size to be a blocker in Gibbs' system at 6'5", 279. Hopefully, we just pick him up as an UFA.

Another head-scratcher of a pick with potential quality remaining at the DE position

Jred Newberry
Strengths: Is a quick and active player. Is extremely tough and aggressive. Plays with excellent technique. Shows good leverage at the POA and will do a good job of using his hands to get through traffic. He has quick feet and takes good angles in pursuit. He is quick and instinctive in coverage. Shows adequate range in zone coverage. He also is a solid tackler with good upper body power. Is a versatile player. Is intelligent and picks things up quickly. Is a proven commodity on special teams.

We have 5 good DEs:
Phillip Daniels
Renaldo Wynn
Ron Warner
Demetric Evans
Chris Clemons
Plus, LaVar is injured and Marshall is changing positions.

And how many total QB pressures and QB sacks did those "good DEs" come up with last season??

not enough we got most of our sacks from the CB and LB core.
7th round= DE

I have no idea about anything football, obviously, but I heard on the draft coverage yesterday that CB is so important to Greg Williams defense because they put the pressure on the QB and get the sacks. So maybe it's the defensive scheme that doesn't get the DE's the numbers in the sack category. Whatever we did last year on defense worked. We just need to strengthen the offense so the defense isn't expected to carry the team. Just my novice two cents. I wouldn't be surprised to see the next pick go to the offensive side of the ball.

I STILL CANT BELIEVE NO ONES TAKEN ERNEST SHAZOR OR JOVAN HAYE. GOD DAMMIT GIBBS MAKE A MOVE AND HURRY! NO MORE SPECIAL TEAMERS OR O-LINE. WE NEED ONE OF THESE FOOLS NOW

Someone did take Jovan Haye. Carolina at 189. Sorry R4L.

Exactly. We needed a DE to contribute to the pass rush, and missed out on excellent late round values in Hawthorne, Swancutt, and Mosley....but we did pick up two LBs who will contribute only on special teams, if they even make the team.....
