JGibbs and future of the 'REDskins'

Post by hatsOFF2gibbs »

Our season is over. We are now the Deadskins. Hopefully we can at least be 5-11 at the end of the season. JGibbs and crew are just not getting it done nor will they this season. If we do not get a QB in next year's draft or pick up another QB, hell we could officialy change our name to the Deadskins.
I trusted JGibbs for a winning season but at this point, I'm thinking about that...I guess HE has been out of the season too long. We have a great defense, an okay special teams, but NO offense. None at all.
Put Ramsey in? I don't care. Do whatever the hell you want beacause you know that he's not going to do any better. The Broncos have clearly beat us with the trade of Champ and Portis. Right now, Portis sucks. He has gotten 50 some yards in two games straight and coughed up the ball FOUR times.
It is just too frustrating to watch them. Just too depressing. Look at the rest of our season:
Bears: Loss
Packers: Loss
Lions: Chance of win
Bengals: Chance of win
Eagles: Loss for sure
Steelers: Chance of win
Giants: Loss
Eagles: Loss for sure
49ers: Win
Cowboys: Loss
Vikings: Loss

I'm packing up my hopes for the redskins until next year. I know all of ya'll are gonna bash this post or just ignore it but face it: It is over guys. I'm sorry to tell you but we cannot keep on hoping and pretending that JGibbs will turn this team over week after week.

Some 'fans' are telling JGibbs to leave Washington and go back to the races. Some actually want Spurrier back. Some want Snyder to sell the franchise and go kill himself. It's a sad time to be a redskin devotee.

Again, I pray that JGibbs keeps his cool and does not over-react.

See. And you guys say Im bad. Yeesh. LOL.

I think Gibbs has improved a lot of things. He needs some more players for his system. The only thing I dont like is the QB situation.

I agree that the situation is difficult enough to test the character of even the most devoted fans.

Do not worry, there will always be a few good fans here to welcome you back when times get better.

Some of us will keep the door open for you...

Sincerely,

Through thick and thin,

Gibbs is the best coach the Redskins have ever had.

The team has improved over Spurrier, but this is not the '81 team:

- No Joe T at QB

- No Monk

- No Riggins

- No Butz

- No Olkeiwicz (sp), Coleman, Kubin at LB, but these guys are good when Arrington plays

- no young Hogs learning

- No Allen/Pardee winning tradition

This is tougher. Detail by detail, Gibbs will win. He demands and gets improvement. Next is the offense, and he is short on OL, receivers, and QB.

The game, however, has not changed. You block, you tackle, you cover, and the team that fails to do those will lose. Fad offenses lose. Blocking and precision wins...the same as when Lombardi coached.

The "Deadskins" were what we called them in 1959-62, the Mike Nixon era. You haven't seen anything if you missed that stretch.

Please don't revive the name for a team coached by Joe Gibbs.

its not gibbs, its the players.

Put Ramsey in. I want to see some long beutiful passes. Who gives a fudge if he throws some picks, its honstly better than keeping noodle arm.

Even thoUgh we're sucking this season, I really like the charactar of this team. Gibber came back after a decade. He has to get back in the groove. But it's not really Gibbs, it's the players. Snyder is trying hard as heck to revive this team. He has lost a whole lot of money. He payed Deion 10 million last year for a 3 year contract and F-n sanders broke the contract and bounced. Thats not cool. Snyd only made him pay 500,000 back. We need to fix up our O line and get some better offensive players if we can even afford it anymore. I have a lot of respect for Coles though. He puts his body on the line. Brunell is a noodle arm. Portis is a good back, but we just dont have a good O-line to block and make holes for him. As for the fumbles, no excuse. Your in the NFL dude, stop fumblin. Give the Gibber a chance though. It's his first season back in a long time. I don't want the poor guy to get a heart attack. I admit it's sad that we have to be looking forward to next year. But lets see if Gibbs can even beat Spurrior's 5-11 record this year, or at least tie it. Even that will make me happy right now. :) cheer up guys its just a game.

Gibbs has not lost the games the players making basic mistakes have, if Betts blocks Reed just a little no turnover. If the punt team stays in there lanes and reads whats happening instead of assuming there was going to be a reverse no TD.
Joe has made some errors but he isn't playing in the game. Evrybody should stay strong and support the team. The foundation of the 82 championship team was laid in 81 when they learned how to win after 0-5 start. The Skin's will work it out.

I for one am sick and tired of hearing all the negative about the situation. Are things bad...yes. Are things getting better...you wouldn't know with the way alot of people are posting. Many of us said NUMEROUS times not to expect too much the first year...as Joe needs to test the waters and see what works. But, noooooooo...it's the immediate here and now....must happen now. If we want this to be a franchise that is a consistent contender...we have to be patient. KEY injuries have plagued us...H#ll, Barrow hasn't even stepped onto the playing field, Jansen went down before he could do anything, Lavar has been out, Daniels, I think we just lost Bowen for a WHILE, Coles has played with Broken fingers, Gardener...well, he was tragically born without hands, and Hall has had 2 different groin pulls. We are talking about KEY players not working within the system. Has Gibbs made mistakes...I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you. Has his players made MANY MANY MANY MANY mistakes...H#ll yeah. That's no reason to dogpile Gibbs and Co. Believe me...the press is gonna do that for you. This needs time to develop. And if you don't have the patience for it...there's a team right across the beltway that could use a fan or two...

the season so far has been no offense plenty of defense.
the qb situation is pretty crazy right now.brunell needs to calm down and quite being so hyper.and yes these missed tackles, blown coverages along with the turnovers, can,t say that i would blame all those on the coach cause he,s not playin.
they just need more players on offense to help the whole problem.

Why do I have to wait. If you're content on being a team that can't score over 18, can only score when the defense gives us the ball near the 5. Then thats fine. Its been 5 games. There is no offense, that is very clear. Time to make a change. Doing the same thing every week isn't making progress. Where's the improvement? Gibbs and Co. need to mix it up, change the quarterback, I think we have a team that might fit the air cordyll system, it is built mostly on the spurrier type talent, not the hogs type talent. There is no benefit in being stubborn.

You partially answered your own question. "Built with fun'n'golf talent." I just feel that this team has had too many injuries and not played to standard to give Gibbs a chance to open up his playbook. But you don't have to wait. Make yourself miserable if you like...or you could be patient and watch what happens. It's not like it's been a rosegarden the last 11 years...

Don't give up on Gibbs! He adjusted in his first, first year and he will do it this time. This team has some fundamental problems that aren't choaching issues, but personnel issues.
- Firts the O-line stinks  I thought that even with out Jansen they would be OK in run blocking and they aren't. Can this be fixed this year? NO, but it can be improved. And Ramsey is the key to that. Brunell doesn't scare a single DB in this league. He doesn't throw long and the one or two times a game he does it looks like a rainbow. With Ramsey in their DBs would have to play the deep ball and wouldn't be in our backfeild on a run blitz. Gibbs needs to go away from the run spread the field and let the ball rip. I'm not saying give up on the run, but run from a pass formation on a team in the dime.
- Second, Portis doesn't fit this Offense. He is not a power runner. Hell even little Terry Allen would knock someone over once in a while. Portis is almost always knocked backwards. It was asickening sight last night seeing Portis' back hit the ground first on many occasions. He WILL NOT WORK IN THE CURRENT OFFENSE. The only fix is to put Ramsey in, spread the field and let Portis run against 7 instead of 8,9, or 10.
WHen we lose to Chicago and we are going to lose because the only thing that this Offense and Special Teams id good at is finding a way to lose the game, we need to give up on this season and see what Ramsey, McCants, Jacobs, Malinaro, and any other youngster can do. I am not giving up on the Redskins and I still think that even with no changes we can go 500, but we have to stop giving away games. Baltimore, Cleveland, and New York would not have won if the O and ST had not handed them the win. We are not going to the play offs so lets start working on next year.

Ok I'm confused as to how you came up with the "Chances to win"? I figured we would be doing alot better and would win most of our games at the beginning of the year because those teams pretty much suck. We lost those. I figured we would split each game in our division. Looking at our division...I figured the Giants were a clear 2 win situation...go fig. The Lions look great easy loss. The Bengals a becoming a desent team close but loss. The Steelers will run over us. figurativly speaking. The only game that we might win is the 49er game which I had a a win but seeing how we are playing...loss.

REBUILDING YEAR. PUT RAMSEY IN TO GET USED TO THE OFFENSE. STOP RUNNING ON FIRST DOWN! MIX IT UP. NEXT YEAR THROW IN SOME TRICK PLAYS. GARDNER CAN PASS.

hatsoff, I really truly mean no disrespect to you and this isn't directed at you personally but rather collectively at a LOT of people both on and off this board. But, the above posting is a pathetic display of the lack of team loyalty that has fallen upon the Redskins. Are people fans of the Redskins only as long as they're optimistic about a winning season? Are we not fans of the TEAM and not the CHANCES of the team? What the hell is the meaning of all this "I'm packing up my hopes until next year", crap? That is absurd and downright ludicrous. Do you think that Joe Gibbs doesn't read newspapers and sees stuff like that? How do you think he feels when he hears or reads when a fan says something like you've written in your post? Quite frankly, I'm glad that you've packed it up until next year. Well, in some ways I'm glad that you have and some I'm not, because we dont' want fans like that. The negative about it, is that you WILL be back next year with the same 5 game window to think we'll win a Super Bowl. The above post made me physically sick to read it. These are the types of people that will "pack it up until next year" in one breath, and in the next say how much of a "diehard" they are. What a crock of proverbial you know what! Learn the definition of the word diehard fan, buddy! You think if the Green Bay Packers go 2-12 or something like that, that they'd be jumping ship like you and so many others are? You've even gone so far as go GUARANTEE that the Eagles are going to win against us. Hell, if you already know the results, why are you even hanging around to comment on them? As a fan it's understandable to look ahead and guage our chances, but to say a Joe Gibbs team has "no hope"? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! It's at times like THIS that seperates the diehards from the fare weather fans like yourself.

Right now though, I'm going to address a few points you make in your post:

Your comment: "I trusted JGibbs for a winning season but at this point, I'm thinking about that...I guess HE has been out of the season too long".

My response: You TRUSTED him? You didn't trust him. You hoped for five games that you'd have a chance at a Super Bowl. After five games, you gave up and went home. You TRUSTED him? You neither trusted him nor bought into his philosophy. You merely thought that we'd instantly have a shot at the playoffs so you thought it would be nice to hop on the Gibbs' bandwagon. Not realizing that things like this take time, you conveniently "pack it in".

Your comment: "We have a great defense, an okay special teams, but NO offense".

My response: Oh, and did we have a great defense before Gibbs came in this year? We have a great defense for ONE reason. Because Joe Gibbs had the foresight to hire Greg Williams.

Your comment: "Put Ramsey in? I don't care. Do whatever the hell you want beacause you know that he's not going to do any better."

My response: I think your main focus right now should be on learning how to be a fan, as opposed to learning how to coach a team.

Your comment: "The Broncos have clearly beat us with the trade of Champ and Portis."

My response: I wasn't aware that the trade was any kind of competition with a win/loss scenario built into it. But, now that you mention it, do you think if we had Champ Bailey our Offense would be so much better? Didn't you indicate that we have a "great defense"? Champ Bailey's not even here and we have a "great defense"?

Your comment: "It is just too frustrating to watch them."

My response: Then DONT! No one is holding you hostage and ordering you to watch them. Let me fill you in on my scenario, and many others. I have season tickets, and this is the first year I have them. Our season isn't going well, but I will be at EVERY single home game this year, cheering as loudly and as enthusiastically as I ever have. I'll do it next year, and the year after, and so on. At no point, EVER, will I ever "pack it in until next year". NEVER, as long as I live will I be in a position to say that I "TRUSTED" Joe Gibbs but now I don't. Just remember my friend, in Joe Gibbs' book, he says that after the fifth game in 1981 he changed his approach. What followed is stuff that legends are made of. Oh, and since you jumped ship, let me remind you that the loss last night was the fifth game of this year. But, don't worry, you'll be able to see the articles in the paper since you won't be here to witness it in person.

Your comment: Look at the rest of our season:
Bears: Loss
Packers: Loss
Lions: Chance of win
Bengals: Chance of win
Eagles: Loss for sure
Steelers: Chance of win
Giants: Loss
Eagles: Loss for sure
49ers: Win
Cowboys: Loss
Vikings: Loss

My response: WOW!!! Good thing you're not a coach. Maybe you should take up sports betting, you'd make an absolute fortune and maybe then you could buy your own team. Sadly, as a fan you just don't cut it. But who knows, with knowledge like that you could become a Tarot Card reader or a sports better.

Your comment: "It is over guys. I'm sorry to tell you but we cannot keep on hoping and pretending that JGibbs will turn this team over week after week."

My response: When did ANYONE ever say that Joe Gibbs was going to instantly turn this thing around? I didn't, and not many people that I know did either. But, I guess you thought so, but I guess you weren't around for his first tenure. As for it being "over"? All I can say is five games does not a legacy make. Thanks for being around for the first five games, but I'm not going to miss that type of fan. See ya next year, if you haven't jumped on the Eagles or the Patriots bandwagon.

Your comment: "Some 'fans' are telling JGibbs to leave Washington and go back to the races."

My response: Name one?

Your comment: "Some actually want Spurrier back."

My response: Name one? And, don't say Patrick Ramsey.

Your comment: " It's a sad time to be a redskin devotee"

My response: With all due respect, you have an AWFUL lot to learn about the meaning of the word devotee. But, being the nice guy that I am, let me fill you in on what the Websters dictionary says it is: 1. One who is ardently devoted to something; an enthusiast or advocate. Hmmmm. Packing it in? Do whatever the hell you like? It's over? We can not keep hoping? Do you get the picture?

Your comment (and I find this to be the most ridiculous of them all, and I actually laughed when I first read it). "Again, I pray that JGibbs keeps his cool and does not over-react."

My response: This has to go down in the annals of oxymorons as the greatest of all time. This is the greatest example of the pot calling the kettle black in the history of the pot calling kettle black world. The hypocrisy of such a comment is laughable and disgusting. You tell Joe Gibbs that you TRUSTED him, that you're "packing it in", that we can't keep hoping, that "it's over" and you preach to HIM not to over react? Dude, preach to yourself about over reacting.

O.K. I'm done. Now, I'd like to say something to the Mods. BH, DE, JH, JF, JAKE, Wingman, et. all... I'm aware of the harsh tone of my post and am prepared for the consequences. Please do what you feel is necessary vis-a-ve moving this to smack, or perhaps giving me some kind of site warning. But, the intention of my post is not to attack anyone personally, but to express my displeasure at the negativity that so many fans have. While I do refer to specific examples in this post, the true message is aimed at a much wider audience, including the media. I'm absolutely disgusted at so many peoples lack of faith in Joe Gibbs and his system. That man is putting everything he has into turning this around, and to hear that kind of negativity towards him at such an early stage of his endeavor is incredible. My heart goes out to Joe Gibbs. He has done so much for the Redskins and their fans, he does NOT deserve the stuff that the aforementioned post insinuates. So many times that man has put his own life on the line for the benefit of this franchise. He sacrificed his own family life for us. He doesn't deserve this kind of negativity.

To Joe Gibbs I would say, KEEP IT UP JOE!! I believe in you!
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

Thank you JPFair (or is it Flair?). We all have been saying "be patient" for the last couple of weeks and now some are looking for wholesale changes. It's only 4 losses! It's going to take time AND we have at least been close to these teams. We also cannot just scrap everything and make wholesale changes because this is not how Gibbs works.

This team is better this year and the wins will come soon. Stay the course and have faith in the adjustments from the coaches especially on the offense and special teams. Joe will insist on it and it will turn around.

I still have hope for a 8-8 season, or better! - our schedule is not that bad and there will be some things that go our way.

BE PATIENT and HAVE FAITH IN THIS COACH!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I couldn't have said it better JPFair. I think the problem is that it's the players not the coaches, Am sure they are more then ready for every game with Joe Gibbs. Its players not given a 100% every play, its the team not given a 100% every game. We always have players that in one game they play good then the next makes a costly mistake its always one guy not goin a 100% and cost the team. Ladell Betts let the team down last night because of one play he didn't want to go full speed, he gave the most rediculous effort I ever saw. Ed Reed was going 110% and he didn't. It is as simple as that we dont play a full game am sure Joe didnt coach him to play 75% of the time. It is always one player on that team that causes our team to lose because of ther lazy a?? performance.
It is not rocket science. We have to play 110% as a team. As for Mark Brunell its not his fault but I dont think he has the arm strenght to get the ball down the field,Coles was open but did not have the Mustard to get it out there. Dont get me wrong he is a good QB and he has played ok, But no Defense in this Leaque is scared of our deep ball. If u already have 8 people in the box to stop the run the deep pass is open but we can get it out there. You see us throwing the ball under15 years, those passes is not goin to be there with 8 people in the box will stop all the under routes that we run, the deep part of the field is open. This will back the Safies back and also open the run.It is not Clinton Postis fault that he is not running well. To me i dont think Brunell looks down field enough. Keep the faith Skins fan never lose hope, regardless of what happen still support ur team. Remember we have the best fans in the league. Its ok to be angry but never I mean never disrepect them because it lets me know,ur not a true fan. Keep ur head skins fans.

I just feel that this team has had too many injuries and not played to standard to give Gibbs a chance to open up his playbook. But you don't have to wait. Make yourself miserable if you like...or you could be patient and watch what happens. It's not like it's been a rosegarden the last 11 years...

I'm just saying, it seems that gibbs is putting a system on a team that isn't that built for it. We need to change the system to fit the talent, not the other way around. He did this the last time around, he realized that the power running game would work, but thats not the team we have now.

If JP was a homer, he'd be a pats fan, he's just a true fan. Even though we never agree, (go ramsey) he's a great fan.

Actually, doros, I would respectfully disagree with you in your un-homering of me. I'm as homer as they come.
