Off the wall poll...

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

Before any of you maniacs come in here and start blowing battle horns  let me say that this is not something I want to happen. Its just a poll, just some fuel for the fire of discussion.

I read on ESPN that Williams wants to come back and may seek a trade. Just a "what if" thing.

I'm just curious as to what some people may have to say. I've been noticing some people are doubting Portis a bit now.

I for one know that Portis isn't a bruising back which I think we may need. I think that in comparision to Denvers line, our linemen are slower and are holding Portis up. So maybe we need to do some things with the line. I like having Portis. I'm worried about his fumbling. I'm also worried about his effectiveness at the goaline.

Man!!! I was thinking the same thing!!!!

But naw. I would Trade Gardner, Betts and a 2nd rounder. RW and Portis would be deadly, teams would have to put 9 in the box. NFL would allow teams to have 12 men against us. :D

Now I never gave thought to having them both. Now that'd be a crazy tandem.

They would be the epitome of lightning and thunder!

You know what the crazy part is RC? Dan Synder is crazy enough to think about doing it.

I don't think we'd be able to have both of them. I'd think about trading Portis for the simple fact that I like bruising backs that can take a hit and deliver punishment. Yeah they're SLOWER than Portis but are by no means slow. Thats just my preference.

We should not be down on Portis, folks. Yeah, the 3 fumbles ain't lookin' too good....but our O-line simply hasn't been opening holes for him. If/when we start sending him outside more often, he'll be just fine. I say "NO WAY JOSE!"

I enjoy watching Snyder play fantasy football, and would really enjoy it if Ricky were to retire as a Redskin ... during the season. :D

I'd be lying if I were to say I wasn't down on him. Its simply because of his fumbling issues. I know the line has problems, he can't help that. He can't run with 8 guys in the box.

That still doesn't change my preference for a Ricky style of back tho.
Keeps the thoughts, flames, and explanations coming guys!! I've been gone for a week or two, I gotta get back in stride!

TC stop following me around the forums!

Seriously would you? Or did you say that because you were being sarcastic?

Better yet, let me word it like this as to not unleash our homer fans on you.

If we had neither Clinton, or Ricky and you had to pick between the 2 to run in a Gibbs offense which would you pick?

I say no way. Ricky has no passion and is definitely not a Gibbs type player (in attitude).

Besides, Brunell's accuracy isn't great and if he's inhaling second hand smoke in the huddle, it will only get worse. :)

That's a no-brainer. You take a Ricky Williams "type" to run a Joe Gibbs offense.
However, Gibbs might never consider the pickup. This is not a Gibbs-type player.
It was sarcasm.

I definitely would take Ricky in a heartbeat, assuming he had no personal problems. That kind of body has been built for a style of offense that Gibbs could rock. Everyone's got their flaw--I'd take Stephen Davis back if he wasn't so injury prone/fumble happy.

As of right now, though, like most people on the board I'm waiting to see just how good Portis can be for Washington. I'm thinking he'll be great. . .

I am one of the ones that selected a different back. Think about how Jamal Lewis would do in this system. . . . ASSUMING he had NO character issues. . . . . hmmmm. . . .he is rather large. . . .pounding legs. . . decievingly fast. . . hmmmm. . . I think Jamal shows some characteristics of John Riggo. Except he may be a little bigger. I hate the Ravens with a passion, but Jamal has proved himself last year as a bruising back, running through teams that put 8 men up front. Think about it before you kill me. . .
Have no fear, Moss will make it happen.

We agree. That is why I voted -NO-.

It will be interesting to see how our OL and Portis compares to the Chiefs' OL and Holmes.

I am hoping for the best ... [-o<

No Chance, Portis has what Ricky Williams doesn't that's heart. Portis loves the game and he will come back. I don't care if your Ricky Williams, jamal Lewis or Priest Holmes, if the holes are not there no one will gain positive yards. Portis will come around but I don't expect alot of yards this week against the Ravens D. Hopefully they will use Portis in the passing game more.

He can definately "take a hit". Puff, Puff, Give!! Your messing up the rotation man.

I wouldn't want him because he will miss time for his dope problem and he seems to be an alienating figure in the locker room. Not to mention, what happens when he comes back and then decides to retire again so he can attend a party or go back to Asia?

Boss, check this guy out Im starting to think he's the Danny is disguise.

Forreal though, we can't talk about other players other possibilities? Yea Portis is a great back but just because he's here doesn't make him the best back for us. I hope he succeeds here.

Think about how Jamal Lewis would do in this system. . . . ASSUMING he had NO character issues. . . . .

Jamal would me monstrous in this defense. I like Ricky a tad bit better as he's a little more atheletic as far as finesse moves are concerned.

Another back I'd love to have in this offense would be Ahmad Green. Everytime I happen to catch a Packers game Im amazed at his abilities, but he puts the rock on the ground too often.

He'd be a nice pick. If we had a fantasy type draft thing of RB's, he wouldn't be my 1st pick. I wish Spurrio wouldnt have let the man go, "he wasn't fast enough" . He's plenty fast.

No for Ricky?
No for any other back?
Yes for Portis simply because he's a RedSkin?
Yes for Portis simply because he's a Skins and he can be the worst back in our history and I'd support him regardless because he's a Skin?

Elaborate, please

No. Portis is fine. It's the OL; except for the fumbles. I don't believe the OL is good enough for Joe's system. The proof is the 3rd and 1 history. The are simply not moving the DL; they have not shown they have the physical strength, at least not yet. Maybe they are thinking too much at this point. Time will tell. But again Portis is awesome, he has been running well with what is there. Just hold onto the rock!
