Yankees Take Game 1

Post by tcwest10 »

Yankees got past Pedro tonight, 6-4. Believe me when I tell you, it was a nail-biter all the way. In the end, everybody second guesses Francona by saying, "Oh, he stuck with Pedro too long."
There is no such thing as sticking with Martinez too long. Grady Little, to this day, would do it the same way he did last year. Some days are diamonds, some days are stone, right ?
Anyway, it was a fantastic game. Kudos to the Red Sox, for being in it so late instead of choking like they used to.
I can just see another ALCS like last year.
Anybody seen Boone around ?
Or maybe (for Boston, of course), Buckner ? :)
Either or would be fine.
Next up, Wakefield v. Vasquez. I can't hardly wait.

Two more.

Did you hear that Bucky Dent was being activated for the series?

"Holy cow!!!" said Rizutto.

Maybe you misunderstood! A couple of week ago when we lost 22-0 everyone had something to say, now we beat Boston 3 out of the last 4 and their's an echo in here????? I never said you had to like the Yankees or anything like that.

Oh. I don't care about Boston vs. NY regardless. Because 4 game series seem repetitive and insignificant. You have to look at the series as a whole instead of each game. Plus, Sportscenter doesn't stop covering the "Yanks versus Sox", which is why I don't care. It gets old very quick. And they are both always 1-2 and in the playoffs.

 Like I said, I don't care about the series but I saw the highlight of him getting lit up. That's funny as hell. I can just hear him saying that in his accent. ROTFALMAO

Game 2 is killin' me right now. It's punch for punch. 5-5, both starting pitchers have been chased out.

Boston has broken this one wide open because Torre is putting in no-name pitchers.
I am soooooo pissed.

Yeah, but now we have Schilling workin' us over because that lame-brain Kevin Brown hasn't got an arm anymore.
Great series or not, we're not ready for the postseason, Ant.

ant, i wasn't avoiding this post after game one, but i only post from work, so i wasn't able to. i was disagreed with francona letting pedro start the 8th. why would you, when you can use the plethora of pitchers in the pen? why not make foulke go 2 innings? anyway, the sox' offensive breakout the last two games was nice. i think the yanks and sox have the same problem right now: unreliable starting pitching (except for mussina, who has been unconscious lately, and schilling). if they both don't improve, it'll be minnesota and oakland in the alcs.

by the way, tcwest, perhaps the title of this thread should be altered, given that the sox took two of three?

OK, Sox take 2 or 3, remain 3 or 4 games back.

without the sweep, it looks like a wild card berth for the sox. which is maybe a good thing. if they made a miraculous comeback to take the a.l. east title, they might have peaked and lost momentum for the playoffs. or maybe i'm just trying to make myself feel better......

Speaking objectively, the Sox should probably take the wild card, and maybe this is the year they go to the Series. Yankees have very little pitching until it's the 9th ining and they bring in Rivera.

The Sox have some pitchers, which is why I'm puzzled that they aren't 5 or so games ahead.

Anyway, it doesn't look like the WS will be back to the Bronx this year.

Speaking subjectively:

- daughter: went from Yankee fan to fanatic. One of her proudest possesions is a snapshot taken by a policeman of her, best friend, and Chuck Knoblach after they discovered that he was walking to the subway near them. Knobbie, by the way, was very patient on a day when Steinbrenner had nsuklted him for having that throwing hitch.

- son: hates Yankees.

- brother-in-law: sadly, sadly hopes for his Red Sox. Called us with two outs in the 9th against the Mets in game 6 to gloat.

- me: loyal fan of the Washington Senators, and the new Washington Nationals. Ah, the rifle-shot sound of a Bob Allison line-drive half way up into the left-field bleachers, or the sight of someobody twisting like a pretzel to strike out against Camilo Pascual, or the smell of the cigars in the lower deck at Griffith Stadium!

Now, doughnuts...I can't go around updating thread titles everytime the Red Sox go on a hot streak. You know I hate 'em, but I respect 'em too.
It's Ortiz, man. He looks like evil, personified. I also hate Manny's shoulder down first step when he goes park. It's snotty !
Hey ! He could be a Yankee ! :)
