These guys are all professionals, there is no excuse for the mental errors we made today. Most of thses guys have been to Pro Bowls and have played on playoff teams. There are no excuses.

Portis

Post by Redskin in Canada »

A day in which C. Portis fumbles and drops passes for the first time in a LOOOOONG time is a nightmare.

Bright spot? It is over.

I look forward to watch them play again in D.C.

It was very sad to see Joe Gibbs suffering on the sideline. I am going to get an ulcer.

- the mistakes will be cleaned up. Gibbs will practice until they're ready to play: no fumbles, no catastrophic penalties (ie, motion nullifies TD)

- Ramsey might not be an NFL QB. Is he a slow-footed Heath Shuler? That is, strong arm, but cannot think at game-speed? Shuler could never see the flow of the play, could not hit the receiver, but he could move his feet. Ramsey suffers from same, but can't move.

- You don't drop passes and continue to play for Joe Gibbs.

- It struck me that Williams was caught gambling a bit. He plays aggressively, but partly because he doesn't have a front four like Manley/Mann/Grant/Butz. Williams geta a lot out of the talent, but they will guess wrong and get beaten sometimes.

- Has a Joe Gibbs team ever had 7 turnovers?

A QBs ability to slow the game down is not something that he either has or doesn't have. That takes time to develope. Ramsey will be fine, he just needs some more teaching. That's what he is getting for the first time in his NFL career this season.

I have been arguing the same thing in this forum and, for the first time, I am wondering if I really know what I am talking about.

Bright Spots:

1. Defense: Once again, Gregg Williams' unit did an outstanding job. Just outstanding.

2. Chris Cooley: Looks like we made a great decision with him.

Dark Spots:

1. Quarterbacks: Brunell brings no big-play ability to the table, but it almost felt like Ramsey was trying to throw interceptions.

2. Clinton Portis: We know he's good, and he certainly tried to atone for his mistakes with his touchdown catch and sweet block, but the two fumbles and the 15-yard penalty killed us.

3. The recievers: Not just Gardner. Yes, he's killing our quarterbacks with his drops (and his penalities), but Coles had big drops of his own.

4. The offensive line: Entirely too much pressure, and not being able to pound the ball into the endzone from the one was a bit depressing.

5. Kickoff coverage: This needs to be addressed.

BOTTOM LINE: So far this season, the defense has allowed one touchdown and the offense three. When that changes, so will the results...

I picked Gardner, because I doubt he'll be playing anymore. So that is my bright spot!
