ding - ding - ding ... hold all the calls! we have a winner!

AND that's a BIG problem - IF Dan Snyder is influencing the FO decisions, we are back to having a FO that doesn't have a clue

what a mess and what a shame ...

as someone posted - a drunk Scot will make better decisions than Bruce and Dan will ever make ...

IMO - Scot would sign Cousins to a long term deal - we are not going to see that happen under these 2 bozos

IMO - Jay Gruden would not have been given an extension unless Cousins had signed a LTD - that extension means NOTHING to Dan Snyder

this is U G L Y and it will get worse
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

What also doesn't make sense is if SM wasn't sold on Cousins then why would he take Brandon with the first pick? I think Snyder wasn't sold on Cousins because he was up RGIII's ass and now Cousin's has panned out and doesn't want to be here Snyder has to have someone fall on the sword. Let it be the drunk...I swear I hate Daniel Snyder almost as bad as I hate Trump......

Nice to see you have come around. It wasn't long ago that you wanted Cousins benched for McCoy.....

I agree with the Danny sentiment. He always needs a fall guy --- his ego is just too big and fragile to handle failure himself. The fact Gruden was the first HC extended in 20 years is evidence of that. Danny boy is a curse.

And please don't ruin this forum by bring politics in. We don't need it here.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

I don’t think its SM who wants to give Cousins a big contract, ask yourself who’s MO is that?
Scot has said it before that you can win with a average QB…he told Cousins he was going to build so much around him that he would only have to be average, last year when he signed the FT. Maybe Scot doesn’t want to tie up that kind of money on the QB position…would we be Ok and still trust him if that was the case? I think that’s the issue right now at Redskin Park.

The size of the deal is not all that important - the amount it would take to sign Cousins is most likely between $22M-$25M - EVEN if you give him $26M the franchise can still afford to do whatever it wants financially according to DM and others

Even if Cousins is the highest paid QB in the NFL, it will not be that way for very long - there are a bunch of QBs that deserve a lot more that will get it soon

This would stand to reason since the QB is the direction of the team, especially if he's given a four or five year contract. That money is going to severely hamper the ability to repair the defense.

I think Dan or Bruce or both blame Scot for not locking up Kirk Cousins earlier and cheaper but Bruce is the money guy, not Scot, so it's on him to get deals done.

Scot is the personnel guy and if he can't get the personnel he wants in free agency (including re-signing our own guys) thanks to Bruce I'm sure he's not happy.

I don't know. I've seen zero evidence that the McCloughan situation right now has anything to do with Kirk Cousins and his contract situation. That doesn't make all that much sense to me.

The Skins apparently just offered Cousins something along the lines of $20m/yr. Why wouldn't wild eyed Snyder just break the bank now that he has that rascal McCloughan out of the way to stop him? :)

I would also say this. The Skins would be well within their rights to fire someone over bungling the Cousins deal to begin with. Not saying that person is McCloughan - I have no idea - but not handling that situation well last year is going to potentially cost Snyder another $30m this year. If I were the CEO of that company, I wouldn't be happy about that.

I guess they have to start somewhere. $20m/yr would have been a good offer though last year. Not sure that's a great starting point.

"in Scot we trust" means something different to me - this franchise needs to continue to draft the best player available and make every effort to keep our own players PLUS only add young free agents - it does not mean that Scot has to be running things or in charge here as long as we don't revert to drafting for need and managing this franchise the same way that we have done since 1999

signing Kirk to a $24M- $25M long term contract that he earned, does not inhibit this franchise at all (as DM has shown) - we can keep all the players we want and sign some young free agents - IF Bruce & Dan are back in charge they will screw this up royally, for sure

What have you done with Skinsjock?????

I have never agreed with anything you have ever posted more. The only caveat is that I believe we do NEED Scot or a credible GM. Bruce won't cut it.

my objection to giving Cousins a $24-$25M long term deal was purely because I thought we could not afford to pay him a lot of money AND resign all the other players PLUS adding the free agents we need - DarthMonk has posted that the amount of money we give to Cousins (within reason of course) will NOT hurt the team financially

it's SIMPLE - Cousins is not worth signing to a long term deal that hurts the FO adding all the other players we need

Bruce and Dan cannot run the FO without Scot or someone like him making the important decisions
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Cousins took a gamble and it paid off - it will take $22M-$25M IMO to get a long term deal
the FO has 2 choices, pay the man or get the best you can for him in a trade
the FO will not let Cousins play for a year and leave - although that would be the stupid thing to do

if we have a proper GM (Scot or someone like him), I think the long term deal gets done and the franchise continues to improve

IF Dan and Bruce bring in a GM that will follow their directions, the franchise will go back to having a mediocre product on the field again
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Kirk Cousins was in Atlanta for the Divisional Championship Game. It's not that far fetched to speculate he had close interactions with Kyle Shanahan there, if not being treated as a guest of Kyle's. With Cousins making it plainly clear in the last month or so that he prefers to play for Kyle in San Francisco, why not bring complaint to the league for tampering? We have a strong case to make. If Kyle has gotten in the way of keeping our player, the league should penalize the 49ers. Dock them a pick or two.

Someone is on some good drugs if they think the difference between $60MM in cap space and $36MM in cap space won't affect the ability of the team to address other needs.

I think QB is the only exception. You pretty much have to figure on paying a ton of money to keep a decent one around, so don't bank on bargain-hunting. What other options are there besides Cousins? We've been without a halfway decent quarterback for decades, and now everyone wants to nickle and dime when we have one.

How is this year's draft class for QB? Will we have to trade up? Is it worth a year or two of McCoy or some half-ass journeyman?

Personally, I think Cousins high-tails it out of here as soon as he can. He knows he can do better elsewhere with a less dysfunctional club and I don't blame him. I like McCoy, but I hope there is a solid alternate plan in the works.

Not saying this isn't valid but Cousins has a nice excuse for being in Atlanta...he lives there in the off-season.

Yes, but, the thing is the only people saying Kirk Cousins wants out of DC are the media. Cousins and his agent aren't saying anything.

Also, it's not his decision. That exclusive franchise tag means he's not going anywhere unless the front office pulls another Vinny Cerrato personnel move and trades him for less than his market value.

Will they? If Scot were around I'd say the answer would be "No" but look who's running this freak show now. Bruce and Dan. B.A.D.

My personal opinion is a team as bad at finding starting quarterbacks as the Redskins should never let one get away but our team is run by idiots, beginning with the chief idiot in charge.

Well Scot has missed the combine and the start of free agency; most of the Redskins beat guys are saying it’s over!! WTH happened…any chance he is staying….I don’t see how he could stay now??
