While I'm sorry to hear about his grandmother's passing, no way this is the reason for him not attending? Two people familiar with the situation said Redskins staffers were told Tuesday during their trip to Indianapolis that McCloughan was “tending to a personal matter.”
A Redskins spokesman Wednesday night confirmed that the team’s top talent evaluator did not make the trip to Indianapolis, saying only “he is taking care of some family matters.”
McCloughan said via text message late Wednesday night he was dealing with a death in the family. His 100-year-old grandmother Marie McCloughan died Feb. 6.

I don't believe Chris Russell here. At worst, Scottie's hitting the sauce again and they're trying to save face.

A lot of different people reporting on this stuff this AM. I know "the media is lying" is kind of a big thing these days, but I wouldn't be holding my breath that Chris Russell's reporting is false.DarthMonk wrote:Now that you mention it, I think he's a bit of a blowhard.StorminMormon86 wrote:I don't believe Chris Russell here. Our GM isn't at the combine. Not sure there is a bigger red flag than that.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.
Scot has either relapsed or is out of favor by Danny & Co. Either way, we're SCREWED.
Those inches above .500 seasons were fun while they lasted......

Re: Scot McCloughan is not with the team at the NFL Scouting
Shouldn't we wait until we actually know the reason given is a lie before we overreact? I mean, if McCloughan, who supposedly isn't allowed to speak to the media, spoke to the media to tell them he would not be attending the combine at all and the reason why then we can safely assume he wasn't intoxicated at the time, since that would have been headline news. Anything is possible with this organization but the extremism and hyperbole with every single thing that happens is a bit beyond the pale. The sky is always falling with Redskins fans. It's tiresome.

Re: Scot McCloughan is not with the team at the NFL Scouting
Wll according to Bruce he'll be back...On Thursday, team president Bruce Allen said, via Mike Jones of the Washington Post, that he wasn’t “getting into speculations” when asked about the report and will be back at work “just as soon as things are handled” on the family front.

Scot never "spoke" to the media. He provided the information via text message to that one media source.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Shouldn't we wait until we actually know the reason given is a lie before we overreact? I think ANY reaction --- whether over or under, at the fans discretion --- is warranted. This franchise has been a circus since Danny boy bought the team. The 1-2 yrs Scot has been here doesn't give Danny boy & his yes-boy Bruce the benefit of the doubt that they know how to run an organization properly. A Scot relapse is not "directly" Danny boy's fault --- but his prior failures/ego/inability to run a franchise are the reason we are where we are. The "sky is always falling" --- because it historically has been.
If the Scot relapse is true, I would never blame Danny boy for taking a chance on Scot given the circumstances. He is a good talent evaluator ----- the best we've had since he bought the team. He took a chance on Scot because any other half-decent talent evaluator/GM wouldn't come close to accepting a GM position in DC knowing who their boss would be. Sure, Danny boy created and is sustaining this mess, but he did the best he could with the situation he created. But, at the end of the day, the reason we had to "take a chance" is because of how bad an owner Danny boy is.

My question is..you know Scot is not going..get out in front of it and release a statement that Scot is tending to a family matter and won't be attending the combine...how hard it that??riggofan wrote:Yep.Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:Shouldn't we wait until we actually know the reason given is a lie before we overreact?

Re: Scot McCloughan is not with the team at the NFL Scouting
No doubt man. Something is going on, and the team is just allowing it to be a steady drip. Like you said, if SM had to be away for a funeral this week, it would have been incredibly simple to get ahead of that and prevent speculation. Instead, Allen is out there using that vague "family matters" BS.DEHog wrote:My question is..you know Scot is not going..get out in front of it and release a statement that Scot is tending to a family matter and won't be attending the combine...how hard it that??
I agree with BGF about not OVERreacting, but its no surprise that people are reacting.

His grandmother died a month ago. Does it take 30 days to get someone's estate together...... As someone who knows this situation well, being a trustee to multiple estates of friends/family, and indirectly does some of this professionally ---- I can say a couple things:
1. If you go thru the system, they will accommodate schedules. If Scot "had" to be somewhere, even if he was the trustee or executor (which I am sure he isn't) --- they would accommodate that. Yes there are certain things that you need to get done is a certain period of time, but you manage those.
2. His grandmother was 100. I am sure things were mostly worked out at the time of death.
3. There isn't much to do from an "emergency" perspective 30 days post DOD.
Bruce released a statement/or whatever venue was used AFTER HIS GRANDMOTHER'S DEATH saying Scot wasn't going to talk to the media at the combine. So, I'd assume that they expected him to be there. Now, nearly a month later, he has to attend to this?????
Doesn't add up. They didn't know Scot wasn't going to be going until recently because most likely his situation has gotten worse and he needs time off. This is a way to show Scot there are consequences for his actions. My guess --- they are doing this in hopes of straightening him out.

At least three different sources have come out and said Chris Russell's report is complete BS.Irn-Bru wrote:What the hell is going on? I'm hoping against the odds that everything straightens out, but as it is, this looks terrible.
I don't care to speculate but if it's true that Russell's report was complete BS he needs to lose his job.
That's not the kind of error you can just walk away from without consequences.

Re: Scot McCloughan is not with the team at the NFL Scouting
Isn't it interesting that despite back to back winning seasons we still couldn't attract good coordinators from outside the organization? Also that our QB isn't exactly chomping at the bit to stay?
The dysfunction is probably very real.

Allen wouldn't confirm or deny that McCloughan had been sent home on Feb. 20 as @Russellmania621 had reported last night.

Hopefully Russell get's treated appropriately if it turns out that he's being very 'creative' ....
by using the words this way it makes it look like someone else "stated" or "reported" when in fact it's just Russell's opinion - what a tool
Reporting live on air, Russell stated president Bruce Allen, coach Jay Gruden, scouts Alex Santos and Scott Campbell, and personnel executive Doug Williams are now running the team. Russell also reported Williams has taken on an "increased role" in the organization, likely at McCloughan's expense. McCloughan now "has nothing to do with anything and has not for a very long time," according to Russell. McCloughan is allegedly missing the Combine due to the passing of his 100-year-old grandmother. Online records show that McCloughan's grandmother passed away on February 6. The funeral occurred on February 13, and the woman was buried the next day.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I only have a problem IF the report is completely false and baseless. IF. We don't know enough yet to make that determination.

Its not his opinion. He's reporting on what his sources have told him. That's what reporters do. That doesn't mean his sources are correct, and its up to people who read this stuff to decide if they believe it or not.SkinsJock wrote:Hopefully Russell get's treated appropriately if it turns out that he's being very 'creative' ....

https://www.dchotread.com/2017/03/01/mccloughan-missingIn addition, 106.7 The FAN and DCHOTREAD.com reported late on Wednesday night that a high level source said that McCloughan was sent home from Redskins Park on February 20th and told not to return until the Redskins called him back.
The source said "Bruce (Allen), Jay (Gruden), (Alex) Santos and Doug (Williams) [are} running Redskins."
The source added "GM (Scot McCloughan) has nothing to do with anything and has not for very long time."
McCloughan denied the accusations to 106.7 The FAN's Brian McNally.
Another source told DCHOTREAD.com & 106.7 The FAN that Senior Personnel Executive Doug Williams has taken on an increased role as of early last week in the football operations of the organization.

Re: Scot McCloughan is not with the team at the NFL Scouting
reminds me of Fox pre game when Joe Buck uses the words "Joe Buck Hall of Fame ... " then "Kirk Aikman" ... you immediately think that Joe Buck is a HOFer when in fact he's just introducing one - these reporters love to put words together to mean something but actually are intimating something else ... "Reporting live on air, Russell stated president Bruce Allen, coach Jay Gruden, scouts Alex Santos and Scott Campbell, and personnel executive Doug Williams are now running the team ..." makes it seem like president Bruce Allen "stated" AND this was officially announced by who at Redskins Park and for how long? could it be that for now these guys are looking after things while Scot takes care of some personal stuff?
