5. Washington and the 49ers will battle for first draft pick

There's little question Washington will stink out loud. It's just a question of how bad it'll be. First-pick bad? Probably, but there will be some competition from the 49ers.

One of the big surprises this season will be just how bad the 49ers are. They will take a significant step back. It will be a temporary one, I think. This will not be a slide that lasts a decade. But it will be a slide.

As much of a pain in the ass as Jim Harbaugh could be—and he was a major one—his ability to coach is as good as almost anyone in the sport. Practically Belichickian. He had his faults. He never fully developed Colin Kaepernick. He burned out people around him. But he will be hard to replace.

This season, you will see just how much he meant to that franchise. Count on two or three wins, at most.

the biggest thing for this season will be Dan and Bruce letting Scot continue on here and clearly showing he has full authority as GM - Scot will need this in order to bring in the coaches and players he needs

Guess we'll find out soon enough. I feel like the roster is better than it was last year, but not sure how much better. Just looking at the schedule to start the season its not hard to believe we could start out 0-4.

The teams who picked first this year were both 2-14. That would be a giant fail. Are we really expecting to be a 2-14 team this year?

I'm curious though. Why is there "little question Washington will stink out loud"? I sort of understand why there is doubt about SF. They lost Harbaugh. They lost a bunch of key players in the offseason. Why are we more likely to be worse than we were last year? Is it obvious we're going to suck because we don't have good players? Or is it because of all the circus stuff with RG3 and Mrs. McCloughan on twitter, etc;?

Honestly I have no idea what to expect from the team this year. I'd love to see them feed the Bleacher Report a healthy dose of STFU.

Can you blame them? When you look at teams on a divisonal basis and take (on paper) the worst single team(s) in each divison (i.e., IMHO --- NYJ, CLE, JACK/TN, OAK, WAS, CHI, TB, and STL) and then compare those team against the higher ranked divisional foes ---- the teams that appear to have the hardest time in-division are WAS, CLE, and OAK. The remaining teams have a close worst-team counterpart: NYJ-BUF, JACK-TN, MIN-CHI, TB-ATL-NO-CAR (who knows what will happen in that division), and STL-SF.

If you look at it that way, it will come down to us, CLE, and OAK. Now, of these 3, many would say OAK has the best chance of improvement, but they are also in the most difficult division of the 3, IMHO. On top of that, we are CURRENTLY favored in only ONE game this season (I wish I had the link to the article, it showed win % by likelihood of victory and the only one about 50% was TB at 57%; but I can't find the link). Most places have us between 3 and 6 wins.

That being said, there is no way that will happen. There are 10 non-divisional games that make my above analysis iffy AT BEST and the NFC East plays the NFC South, which is one of the weaker conferences as well as the AFC South, a mediocre division. OAK plays the AFC and NFC North -- both solid divisions. CLE plays the AFC & NFC west, also decent divisions. We have a much easier non-conference schedule than both OAK and CLE.

Vegas has us at 6 on the over-under. That is tied for 5th lowest. I think that is a closer estimate --- but that is why you play the games!!!!!

until Dan Snyder lets the NFL guys manage things, the results will not change and we will be amongst the worst in the NFL

we could get lucky but the pervasive, losing attitude will not go away

I predict that Gruden will do everything he can to not be here next season but at the same time he will also do everything he can to make sure he can get a good job elsewhere and that does not happen if he does not show that it was not his fault ....

Redskins Projected Record: 9-7
When I was at camp, it was clear the Redskins practice faster than a year ago when the Shanahans were figuring out how to build an offense around Robert Griffin III. Alfred Morris proved he is a special back as a rookie, having some of his best days vs. division opponents. In six division games, Morris touched the ball 149 times (24.8 per game) for 770 yards (128.3 yards per game). The defense is better with Brian Orakpo back, but issues remain in the secondary. Last season, the Redskins gave up 1,719 yards in six division games. Repeating that kind of that performance could leave Washington outside of the playoffs.

As for the topic there is no way in hell the Skins are going to stink bad enough to get the top pick. I think SM and JG will produce a modest improvement to 6-8 wins this year providing they stay fairly healthy and the rushing game is better and the pass coverage a little better. I think Cousins starts 16 games and aside from a couple stinkers because he is forced to throw more than 40 times he does a solid job for guy having starts 10 through 25 on a poor to mediocre football team.

I'm usually a very optimistic person, but I have to say I hold out little hope of this being a good season in any way.

Don't get me wrong, I think we're moving very much in the right direction, loving what SM is doing, building up the trenches, etc.

But this year we're likely gonna stink. And the reason the media are predicting a bust year..? Mainly because of the QB and HC situation - the two most important positions on the payroll arguably. They all believe Capt Kirk to be a turnover machine and I don't get the impression any of them feel Grudan is a decent head coach.

And they're probably right.

If Capt Kirk has developed and grown in confidence sufficently to greatly reduce the number of interceptions he throws then we could have a really lively offense. Could even blow a couple of teams out. But that's a massive 'If'.

The thing is we really need Cousins to be either REALLY good or REALLY bad. If he's really good then great, we have our QB. If he's really bad then we may get 1st pick next year to address the situation.

A more likely scenario (going by recent experience) is Cousins endures more issues in an up and down year and the secondary struggles again as Dashon is shown up to be past it already. And God help us if Trent Williams gets injured. We will probably end up with about 5 wins and are too far down in the pecking order in the draft to bring in a top QB next time, leading to a very interesting off season...

I don't have a lot of hope for this season. The schedule is brutal, and it's quite likely we're looking at starting the season 0-4, which normally dooms a team. I think the team will be better than last year, but that may not show in wins and losses.

I do not have confidence that Cousins will hold up over the year. I've seen the guy crumble under pressure (once he throws one INT, the next one comes soon after and looks awful), and I don't know that you can teach someone how to perform under pressure. And our overall team is not good enough to support even an average QB and have success.

I agree that most people outside of redskins fans have a negative view of Danny boy --- at least everyone I know.... and I live in TX.

Danny boy has always had an overwhelming need to stick his nose where it doesn't belong. That fact is WELL established through nearly 2 DECADES of precedent. Danny has literally no football experience and the basically every football decision he has made up to this point has been wrong. Yet, his ego still drives him to think he can actually be successful. You know what the definition of insanity is. Danny is living proof.

Has Danny boy been proven as a liar and deceiver --- yes.
Has he ruined every HC that he has hired in DC --- yes (outside of Gibbs)
Has he consistently stuck his nose where it doesn't belong --- yes.
Does he have a false sense of his ability as a football evaluator --- yes.
Is he a horrible manager and put in place on of the most dysfunctional football front offices --- yes, until proven otherwise.
Does he play favorites --- yes.
Has he earned any benefit of the doubt --- no.

Danny is the worst owner in pro sports. Anyone that says otherwise is wrong. IMHO, this FACT is indisputable. Both his off field and on field results an attest to this.

So why should the media -- the ones he doesn't control (not that Larry Michael CLOWN) -- back off? The dude dug his own grave. He needs to be a man and realize his deficiencies, admit to them, and rectify them ---- or sell the team. Because of Danny's history, it will take years of evidence that Scot is making decisions for anyone to believe it ---- including myself. He is a meddler until proven WITHOUT ANY DOUBT otherwise
