This is a pleasant surprise. We now have a defense that is packed with blue collar, above average talent, that has a reputation for solid, no nonsense football. I am very happy.

Me too! I'm liking the moves we've made in free agency so far. It seems like they've really prioritized fixing up the defense. No big name, splashy moves here which is fine by me.

What's the word on Taylor May?
I read he's a stud hybrid... covers like a CB
BUT can play like an LB too

Re: Free Agent visits to Washington 2015
Center Stefen Wisniewski just visited with the team. Still shopping apparently!
http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-reds ... s-redskins
The Redskins hosted free-agent center Stefen Wisniewski Friday, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan. The plans for that visit must have occurred only a few days beforehand: On April 6, I’d been told there had been no contact between the two sides.
But Wisniewski is an intriguing player who has visited a handful of teams and had interest expressed by others.
What does it mean: The Redskins already have Kory Lichtensteiger at center, and it’s not as if he did a poor job last season. He was rather solid. The one factor against Lichtensteiger is his size; he’s 6-foot-2, 296 pounds after bulking up last offseason. But he compensates with quickness. That was perfect in a mostly zone-based run game, especially an outside one like the Redskins used in the past. But they used more power last year and want to add even more this year. The Redskins' actions will dictate whether they view him as a good fit going forward.
Lichtensteiger can play guard, but he was moved inside by coach Jay Gruden, who favors bigger players at that position. At 6-foot-3, 315 pounds, Wisniewski offers more size than Lichtensteiger inside (Wisniewski is also four years younger at 26). However, Wisniewski also has played guard (he started 16 games at left guard as a rookie in 2011 to good reviews) -- and he’s bigger than right guard Chris Chester (6-foot-3, 305 pounds). But I have not yet heard what position they would want him to play. I did find an old quote from Wisniewski, given to ESPN.com Raiders reporter Bill Williamson, “I think center is my best position, and I really like being there.”
If the Redskins signed Wisniewski and wanted him to play center, then they could release Lichtensteiger with a post June 1 designation and save $3.75 million against the salary cap. His cap hit this season will be $4.3 million. If they wanted him at guard, they could release Chester and save $4 million (but with $800,000 of dead money on the cap).
Injury concerns: Wisniewski had offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs. It’s uncertain how long he played with that injury last season, but reports suggest his play slipped in the second half of 2014; this could explain a drop-off. The surgery would be a good reason as to why he’s still available (and, of course, whatever teams are, or are not, offering financially).
Mini scouting report: Wisniewski is considered a reliable starting center. He’s good enough that a number of teams have reached out to him, but it’s always concerning when the team that drafted you allows you to leave -- and then signs a high-priced replacement. It could be as simple as the Raiders having to spend money to avoid a future cap penalty so they signed Rodney Hudson to a five-year contract with $20 million guaranteed and worth up to $44.5 million. Regardless, here’s what ESPN scout Matt Williamson, a former NFL scout, said of Wisniewski last summer: “He’s a good, young, tough player [who] should be extended and should be a building block. He’s not an elite center, but he’s well above average.”
Other teams interested: There have been a number of teams that have either met with him or expressed interest. At this point, of course, meeting with a player puts it at a different level. He has met with Seattle, Tennessee and Tampa Bay. New England, St. Louis, Chicago and Jacksonville are among the other teams with whom he has either visited or received interest.
