To be fair, all he did was tweet that his "sources" were saying the team was planning to hire Joe Barry. I don't doubt that his sources told him that and maybe it was even true, but nothing is official until the contract is signed and the team announces it.
I don't have a problem with what Rappaport wrote. His whole gig is "NFL Insider" who is writing about rumors, hearsay, etc; Its all of the other numskulls out there who immediately lengthy "news" articles about this information like it was a done deal.

I don't know how true this statement is, but it kind of scared me to read:There was a report Wednesday morning that they had decided to hire Chargers linebackers coach Joe Barry for the job. After the report was met with a very negative reaction by many Redskins fans, it appeared that the process stopped.
http://realredskins.com/2015/01/15/is-t ... -overtime/
The fans' reaction and the process appearing to stop aren't necessarily related. But I would be SERIOUSLY concerned if the fans' reaction to the Joe Barry news has anything to do with whether or not he gets the job.
Really? Come on. So it had everything to do with fan reaction and not the fact that the same day these reports were coming out about Barry being hired, the news that the Niners were hiring Tomsula as there coach and Fangio was now in play and it would be a CLEAR upgrade to Barry? Journalists are bad enough, but when fans (and I'm not saying you are part of this because you have stated that the two may not be related) buy into everything they say and then regurgitate that message, it drives me crazy. Have an objective thought people.

Exactly. The news from the 49ers that Fangio might be available after all seemed like a perfectly legit reason to pump the brakes on Barry.
I'd just say while I don't buy that speculation about the fans' reaction/Joe Barry, my faith in this front office is at such a low point that I read that comment and had to give it some thought.

Per Ian Rapport Joe Barry was hired. This is pathetic, you allow one sorry DC to stay years to long to hire a 44 year old DC that no one else wanted as DC, as the Linebacker's coach for San Diego what player there was a stud? I can't wait to get Gruden and the entire lot of these NEWB coaches out of here. I sure hope Scot is on the phone telling his coaches to be ready 12/15 cause this is going to be a comedy watching these "coaches" fail.......

GUYS...........IT'S JOE FREAKIN BARRY...!!!
Skins settle for Joe Barry to head up defense
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Redskins hired Chargers LBs coach Joe Barry as their new defensive coordinator.
Rapoport had the exact same report six days ago, but it turned out the Redskins were still chasing down other candidates. Only after Vic Fangio chose to go with John Fox and the Bears did Barry get back on the top of Washington's list. So now the 'Skins are settling for an underwhelming Barry, who was the Lions defensive coordinator during 2007 and 2008 -- when the team went winless one year and ranked last in total defense both years. This Redskins unit is going to be a defense to attack from a fantasy perspective once again in 2015 -- especially in the pass game.

They're saying this guy is John Pagano's right hand man in San Diego to run the defense. Take a look at these defensive stats. Pretty underwhelming. http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?team=sd. Why do we keep hiring coaches from the 2006 Tampa Bay Bucaneers staff. They were 4-12. Wait a minute. I think I figured it out

WELCOME Joe Barry
Are you sure that Joe Barry is what Jay -and- the unanimous FO wanted?
Really???
Lets me tell you: Jay and Bruce just played their last card before being fired at the end of next season.
Scot played things well: he gave them the Vic Fangio option. When the two morons refused, Scot knows that this hiring was on them.
This hiring will fail miserably but look at the bright side: it will simply make it possible to get rid of Bruce. Scot is wise in the way he handled this.
Patience???? Yes, lots of patience because this defense is not getting better but worse this year. The paradox is that getting worse actually will help this team to get rid of Machiavelli and the arena coach. It is just painful that another season will be wasted to accomplish this.
I know you want to believe now that Scot is here but this team still carries a lot of heavy baggage at the top. Sorry.

Re: Joe who? Joe Barry is our new DC
This could very well be a terrible hire - who knows? But I still find the reaction from the fans and the radio today kind of hilarious. People complain all year long about Snyder's offseason excite the fanbase big name PR hires that never seem to pan out. But of course when the team hires Joe Barry we're up in arms about it being underwhelming because we've never heard of him.
Personally I don't need to be whelmed. I'll be happy if Barry comes in and makes the most of his opportunity. Guess we'll see...
Thought this info from San Diego was worth reading:

Thought this info from San Diego was worth reading:
Barry turned in one of his most masterful coaching performances in 2013, working with a unit that was besieged by injuries throughout the season. Starting inside linebackers Donald Butler and rookie second-round draft pick Manti Te’o both missed time due to injury, but finished the year second and third on the team in tackles with 99 and 93, respectively. Projected starting outside linebacker Melvin Ingram spent most of the year on the “Physically Unable to Perform” list due to an offseason knee injury and fellow starting outside linebacker Jarret Johnson missed five games with a host of ailments. As a result of all the injuries, only twice in 2013 did the Chargers start the same four linebackers in consecutive weeks. Still, linebackers were responsible for 16 of the team’s 35 sacks, including 4.5 by Thomas Keiser, a practice squad player at the start of the season who went on to lead the linebackers in sacks and quarterback hits (10). Another valuable performer was Reggie Walker, a special teams player for most of his career who started six games at both inside and outside linebacker and registered the first three sacks of his NFL career and ranked third among the linebackers with 49 tackles.

What a crock. The team asked to interview Fangio well before Scot was hired. They had the option to interview him because the 49ers didn't keep him. Scot didn't "give them" jack. And Fangio CHOSE a better job with the Bears.
Redskin in Canada wrote:Patience???? Yes, lots of patience because this defense is not getting better but worse this year.
The defense is going to struggle until we get some better players. I'd encourage you to look at the couple of years Vic Fangio's defenses were ranked 32d in the league. Coaches need players.

Barry is a better choice than most others in the list of candidates with an interview? This choice even makes Raheem look as a wasted opportunity

Terrible bad judgment for the Tampa connection maffia . But look at the bright side: they will go the Vinny Cerrato way sooner than we expected. Then we will ask: how did they ever get here?

Re: Joe who? Joe Barry is our new DC
RiC - let me be clear - I am glad that Scot is here but I do not look for a whole lot of improvement here even if Snyder stops interfering
IMO this franchise will not be contenders until the 2017 season at the earliest - it's going to take at least 3 drafts (hopefully we get 4-5 players out of each draft) and we have to hope that Snyder stays out of things all that time as well
I'd be glad if Scot was able to get rid of Bruce Allen and I'm not sure that Gruden is cut out to be a good HC either - we are in a huge mess here and it's going to take time to make it right - Fangio was not going to make a huge difference in the next 2 years anyway
if next year's draft pick is in the top 10 again, it's not all that bad a thing really - 2 drafts where we pick 3 players from the top 100 in both drafts (or close to it is a good thing ... right?)
I swear - some fans here act like this franchise is going to get good again in a year or 2 - not happening, not with all the issues we have

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Yeah right. I'm sure I can count on two hands the number of posters on this board who knew Joe Barry before two weeks ago.
I know zippy about this guy, and I'm not afraid to admit that. You may be 100% correct that Joe Barry is the Jim Zorn of defensive coordinators and he's going to come here and field a giant steaming turd of a defense. Guess we'll see.
Here's my opinion though. Its Jay Gruden's job and reputation on the line. He's the one who is going to get fired and risk never getting a head coaching job again if the team doesn't improve next year. He'd better have hired a coach who can get the job done on defense.

There's just nothing rah-rah about this hire at all. People are going to have to get over it, see what the guy can do.
Man, our defense has SUCKED for at least the past two years. The bar isn't exactly set all that high for improvement.

It's real simple guys. You are judged on wins and losses. Barry has an awful record as a coach as a DC with multiple teams. He hasn't been successful. I thought the same of Haslet before he was hired. It's really not that complicated. I could and hope I'm wrong but most likely will not be.
