Gruden Backed Off...:-(
Gruden spoke plainly about Griffin's poor performance and Robert's comments regarding the performance of the rest of the team this week and then backed off his criticism and said he had spoken too bluntly. I think he was correct in calling Griffin out like he did and the squad probably felt better after hearing their coach take the anointed one to task. Now Gruden looks weak for backing off, like Snyder chewed him out for it, and Griffin looks weaker too because it looks like Snyder acted after Griffin whined about Gruden's criticism.
Maybe Gruden retreated on his own but it doesn't look that way to me it smacks of Dan Snyder interference and the first year coach is weak.

It's not like Gruden has any room to criticize performance.

Re: Gruden Backed Off...:-(
Ot sounds to me that Gruden realized he was guilty of exactly the same thing Robert is being criticized of.. Gruden SHOULD be talking about what HE needs to do to get the best from HIS team in all facets of the game instead of publicly critiquing one player; only ading fuel to the flames.

At first I thought perhaps Snyder and/or Allen had a "talking to" with Gruden, but now I'm not so sure. Did anyone else catch another "diss" Gruden sent out towards Griffin yesterday? Someone asked Gruden about the Steve Young "report" about how Griffin doesn't put the time in (mentally) to get better and grow as a quarterback, and Gruden said, "Yeah...he probably needs to do more."

Wow... I didn't see this before. If Gruden doesn't think Griffin is putting in enough prep time studying than Jay's apology makes even less sense to me and I am more concerned about Gruden’s readiness to coach the Skins. Gruden needed to slap some sense into Griffin and tell Griffin to shut up and focus on his own improvement. I also think the team needed to hear it said and know Jay was strong enough to confront and control Grffin so doing it openly in the media made sense to me taking it back the next day is weak.

Gruden just like RGIII, doesn't know when to STFU. He needs to take a bit of his own advice.

This is stupid. If your coach isn't criticizing your performance, then you don't have a good coach. Period. Good coaches tell you the things that you don't want to hear.
Whether or not Gruden should have done all of this publicly is a different story. I kind of think his first instinct was correct, and I suspect most fans agree that RGIII needed it. It will be interesting to see how he responds to what happened this week. Is he going to sulk, tune out the coach, start leaking to the press? Or is he going to go out and play his *** off?

I'm with you there, man. I'm not sure if you mean he shouldn't have said anything in the first place or not. But he definitely should have STFU after that and not backtracked.
I'm sure this is true everywhere, but these players and coaches have to realize the media, especially the local guys, are not their friends.

Why were so many people upset with Shanny's "coach speak" but are also put off by Gruden's honesty?

I agree, but this is just me saying this. I wouldn't want a player to say something like that to the HC.

Yeah because the player would get cut.

Lol, I'm only kidding.
Re: Gruden Backed Off...:-(
typical - much ado about nothing
the DC media will continue to bash and twist anything they can to suit their agenda
it was a great day for DC when Snyder came to town and unfortunately now that he's showing signs of letting the football people run things, we have a franchise that continues to give the media reason to take shots
these guys are in a no win situation - everything will be twisted out of proportion

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

It was a great day for DC when Snyder came to town? In what respect was it a good day for DC that Snyder bought the Redskins? You and I have disagreed about the QB position I was bullish on Cousins and your have been the most faith RGIII supporter on the board but if you think DC fans have been blessed by Dan Snyder buying the Skins I just don't know what to think of your judgement. In my view and in the opinion of every Skin fan I know Snyder has been a disaster. Please explain your post.

And by all accords, Jesus was mostly likely dark skinned. Anywho, I think RGIII needed some public shaming. He is cocky, brash, and has been playing turrible. He is reaping what he sows, IMO. He needs to grow up, take onus on himself, and learn how to be an adult.

You know how you solve this problem? Not finishing dead last just about every season. The "media bias" line is such utter nonsense. This franchise has been a dumpster fire ever since Snyder took over, maybe with the exception of the Gibbs years.

THANK YOU. So tired of hearing the team blame the media for negative stories. Its twice as annoying when fans fall back on that tired old crutch.
I can't even count how many times people have cried foul about some "bs story from the Washington Post" that we find out three months later was basically 100% true. Pull up one of the threads from when the Shanahan leaks started last year. "Couldn't possibly be true! Just part of the WashPo's war on the Redskins!" lol.
Never the Redskins' fault. Its always Jason Reid or Jason LaCanfora out to get the team.

The biggest reason you do not say anything as negative as Gruden did with RG3 or any other players?
You de-value the player. The NFL is a business and ultimately the players are going to be evaluated by their own the field performance, however it doesnt help a players TRADE value by you scorching a guy through the media openly. Coaches listen to other coaches.
Ive seen this through the years, where our own organization go into battle mode with the player (Coles, Arrington, Haynesworth, McNabb) and then they turn around and can barely get the highest trade value out of the player. Creates leverage for the other team.
We could have traded Haynesworth early, indicated he wasnt a fit for the 3-4 and cleaned our hands with him 4 a 1st or 2nd rd. Shanny publicly humiliated him, blasted him 4 poor conditioning and ended up not getting much 4 him down the road.
In these cases I feel it is okay for Bruce Allen or Snyder to jump in and have order and instruct the coach...their job is to think long term for the RG3 situation and the team.
