Damn he looks good in our colors. :)

Also, as to which number he'll be, if anyone else has noticed, they usually give the speedy receivers a "teen" number rather than 80-something. With that said, how about 11?

I still want to see the contract details but "Yeah (He was due $10.5M this year and $21M over the next two with Philly), and although the 49ers had less cap space than the Skins going into this, they could have paid him more than what he signed for.

I know this, Bruce knew this, and Vinny would have known this... I would have given him more in the signing bonus and about $14M in guaranteed money over two years, Vinny would have out bid himself and paid about $10M more, Bruce kept him in town AND made a good deal

As much as I'd like to give all credit to Allen... I think this has as much to do with it being personal for DJax, resulting in the 'skins getting a bit of a bargain... I mean, we all know he probably could have gotten more elsewhere, including with the legit contenders in SF. He is playing for a rival to his former team, will see them twice a year... and wants a little payback. I just hope he's nice and disciplined about it.

Man, i'd love to find a copy of that photo on the wall behind DJax for my son, who is a huge Redskins fan, has done tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and adopted/brought home an Afghani dog (through Nowzad dogs). BTW, they can sure use donations to help more soldiers get more dogs home.

I've seen the reported details... per PFT (per a source with knowledge of the contract  )

Jackson will make $8 million in 2014. The total comes from a $5 million signing bonus, a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1 million, a fully-guaranteed $500,000 workout bonus, and a $1.5 million 53-man per-game roster bonus that is fully guaranteed.

For 2015, Jackson gets a fully-guaranteed $3.75 million base salary, a fully-guaranteed $500,000 workout bonus, and a fully-guaranteed $3.75 million 53-man roster bonus.

That’s $16 million fully guaranteed upon signing, earned over two years.

Because they’re fully guaranteed, the 53-man per-game roster bonuses in 2014 and 2015 don’t give the Redskins any extra protection — unless Jackson gets suspended. Even if that happens, the team would have been protected via guaranteed base salaries. The thinking is that the devices, while ultimately meaningless, could be a way to make the player think he’s got more at stake than he really does.

In 2016, Jackson has the same terms as 2015, without the guarantees: $3.75 million base salary, $500,000 workout bonus, $3.75 million 53-man roster bonus. It adds up to a four-year, $24 million contract.

There’s also a fourth-year that automatically voids. That allows the Redskins to push $1.25 million of the signing bonus into 2017, which in turn keeps the cap charges lower in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

And yes I can say this is a about as good as it gets...

Not only is it voidable after three years, if things don't work out the team can release or trade him after year two and deal with a cap hit of only $2.5M in dead cap space (which would equal $6.25M saved) in 2016 making it a two year $16M deal.

I've heard that theory the past few days. I agree about the "personal" part but I'm not sure I buy the "payback" motive. You get axed from your playoff caliber Eagles team and you want to go play for the 3-13 team down the road to pay them back? Yeah I know he'll get to play Philly twice a year, but I'm going to assume he remembers the two games we played against the Eagles last year. :) He could just as easily pay Philadelphia back by making a Super Bowl run with the 49ers and putting up 1500 yards in the process.

Who knows really, but from the photos we saw the other night and his press conference today, it seems to me like maybe the personal effort from our players made a difference. Jackson said RGIII called him up immediately after he was cut, came out to see him in L.A. Hall and Garcon obviously were here to meet him in DC. It looked like a lot of Redskins were out there letting him know they wanted him here. That might have made a difference to a guy who was really being disparaged and thrown under the bus by his former team and teammates to an extent.

So, with this signing, how much cap space do we have left? Are we at the cap limit?

Of course, we can free up more cap space by letting guys go, e.g., Chester, Bowen, Polumbus or signing Orakpo to a longer term deal with smaller cap hits in 14.

By the way, how can a workout bonus be "fully guaranteed"? You're telling me that if he never shows up at the facility except for training camp, he'll still get it? Why even call it a "workout bonus" at that point? (I'm guessing it's purely for accounting purposes.)

IMO wide receiver is the hardest position to fill after qb in the NFL. There are VERY few teams that actually overwhelm people at that position. The redskins have not been one of those teams in my lifetime, which is why I'm always advocating drafting as many as possible, because it's just like qb in that sense. Hopefully now with who we have we can be solid there and at qb and focus on positions that are easier to fill.

The most important position on an NFL team is the QB - we have that and he's going to be V motivated ...

after that - the most important thing to have is depth and 'continuity' (OR the players getting to know how to play together) - THIS WILL TAKE TIME

we have some good players, but ....

we need to address a lot of issues and we need the players we have to develop continuity AND 'learn' how to play together - it will take time

the offensive line is not going to be effective by just 'adding' players - it will take time

developing an effective defense is V important - it will take time

adding DeSean Jackson is great but let's not fool ourselves - we are a 3-13 franchise - it will take time

I like what these FO guys are doing but it's going to take more than just adding a few 'good' players - we are a 3-13 franchise - let's get real here
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

As a group it can be hard to fill an O-line, but an effective WR is much harder to find than a lineman. There might be 15 Wr's in the whole league that teams are actually concerned about. We may actually have two of those as opposed to usually having zero.

Yes, but I don't do other team's sites, and I was specifically talking about him going to the Skins as opposed to, say Oakland.
I'm guessing we would have gotten a "Fargin' bastages!" out of him. :P

After some checking here's what I get...

The actual guaranteed money in the Jackson contract is only $10.250M... that's made up of hjs $5M signing bonus, $4.750M in base salaries in 2014 and 2015 and his 2014 workout bonus.

Roster bonuses and workout bonuses beyond 2014 are NOT true guaranteed money either. If he was cut after 2014 he wouldn't get any of it. The per game roster bonuses in 2014 & 2015 are only payable if he's on any of the roster lists of than the suspended or non-football injury list
