Redskins camp starts monday morning and RG3 and his agent have not signed with the skins. Some think they are waiting to see what LUCK does but there is only one problem with that.. the Colts traning camp starts at end of JULY. RG3 will miss much needed time with the skins.

Come on Bruce you gave up the house to get RG3 don't let this get in the way.

Why not allow Cousins to get some snaps. It's only rookies this week so not a big issue for me. Vets report next week if I remember correctly. That's when he'll need to be there.

Still don't understand what the delay is. With the rookie cap, this deal should have been done already. I'm not panicking or anything, but I'd still like to see the deal get done sooner rather than later.

It's not like there is a pre-printed contract for the #2 pick. There are certain things that are predetermined but most is no.

From 2nd link in OP:
In case you’ve one of those fully sane individuals who has been spending your summer focusing on other things besides NFL player contract minutia, here’s a quick explanation. The basic terms of Griffin’s contract—four years, a bit over $21 million in salary and signing bonus—are set by the CBA and the deal will be fully guaranteed. In the highly unlikely event that the Redskins release before the contract is up, they want any unpaid guaranteed money to be offset by any money he might get in a contract with another team. Ben Dogra, Griffin’s agent, wants the Redskins to have to pay in full regardless of how much money Griffin might get from another team.

If this disagreement strikes you as being similar to one of those old debates about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, you have a point. There is absolutely zero chance that the Redskins will release RG3 in the next four years so there is absolutely zero chance that the offsets will come into play.

The Redskins know that and Dogra knows that. So why the holdup?

It’s about setting a precedent. Dogra wants to be able to tell future potential clients that he can get a deal done with no offset language. The Redskins want to establish that players they release won’t be able to double dip and get paid in full by both them and another team

many fans ... AND some here ... need to understand the reality of this time of year and really what is happening

do you really think that this is an issue - give me a break

stop making fools of yourselves
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I don't think we can blame the Skins FO for this not being done yet. This seems like a case where RGIII needs to tell his agent to quit screwing around and get the deal done. He's going to get a good deal and the offset thing has virtually no chance of being relevant to his contract anyway from what I can see.

Isn't that just as good an argument to say the complete opposite?

They're going to get a good contract/price for him in light of the CBA guidelines and the offset thing has virtually no chance of being relevant to his contract anyway [ since they are clearly going to pick up his 4th year option from what I (and anyone else on planet earth) can see"?

red highlight is my addition.

I don't think so. It'd be easier for RGIII to drop the issue than the Skins. In his case, the offset will never come into play, but if the Skins allow him to set that precedent, then it could come back to bite them in the future with other players.

I get that it will never come in to play, theoretically, sure. I'm not sure it then has to follow that the precedent should be set in favor of the team for a first round draft pick. Given the governor that has been put on the 1st round draft pick contract totals, which we all seem to agree were needed, I do not see the need for life to be so easy for the team that all 1st round player should simply cave on the remaining negotiable rights they have in CBA.

If that is the way the teams wanted it, they damn well should have fought for that in the CBA. If they are worried about it coming back to bite them in hindquarters, then they should either fight for it on a case by case basis like men or take the fact that they have to up with their labor negotiator. I see it as no easier for RGIII to cave on than for the team.

Are teams still bound by the CBA then? I thought our esteemed Ginger Fuhrer had abandoned all parts of the CBA, except its "spirit"?

Nailed it! Well done.

I don't blame RGIII. The guy has done pretty much everything right from day one. His agent needs to quit messing around and get him into camp.

This does seem like more of a power play for RGIII's agent than RGIII. Does it really impact RGIII's future negotiations with this (or any) team if his agent wins this one?

So Goodell's a Nazi now?

And I understand the agent trying to set a precedent for future clients, but still...
