Kyle Shanahan meeting with RGIII over next few weeks

Post by tribeofjudah »

1. Kyle spending weeks in Waco
2. This would be a waste...unless they KNOW that Indy will take Luck
3. Who knew Kyle played Wide Receiver in college...???
Report: Kyle to spend quality time with RG3
It looks like Kyle Shanahan is going to be spending a lot of time in the next few weeks hanging out in a college town in Texas. And, no, the former Longhorn wide receiver not going back to school.

Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet is reporting that the Redskins’ offensive coordinator will be in Waco, Texas, the home of Baylor University and one Robert Griffin III, frequently between now and the NFL draft. Hernandez tweeted the following:

Source tells me Redskins Kyle Shanahan in Waco Tx. tonite Will visit RG3 couple times each week for next several weeks. #playbooktime

So it appears that class will be starting early for the Redskins’ presumed quarterback of the future.

The fact that Shanahan is spending time with Griffin indicates the level of confidence that the Redskins organization has that the Colts are going to take Andrew Luck with the first overall pick. Jim Irsay’s public Hamlet routine notwithstanding, if they believe that there was any chance that Indianapolis would pull a shocker and draft RG3, they would not be spending Kyle’s time and the resources to teach the offense to a possible future Colt.

Is that compliant with the CBA/Draft rules/Goodell's Law of I make this up as I go?

I haven't the foggiest, but it sounds a little fishy.

Nevermind

I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

Spending a few weeks in Waco voluntarily is a big deal people. That place is the worst!

1. Thats good news. Get an early jump on things
2. Hey Tribe, I KNOW the Colts will be taking Luck
3. I knew, Tribe. I am a Longhorn Fan. Hook 'em! Chris Simms was his QB. Kyle could not get on the field for the likes of Roy Williams, Sloan Thomas (drafted by the Texas) and B.J. Johnson (drafted by Broncos - Kyle must have convinced dad). This was the best Receiver tandem in Longhorn history. Kyle was a good receiver who ran good routes.

Robert Griffin III already learning Redskins’ offense

Robert Griffin III already learning Redskins’ offense
The Redskins can’t draft Robert Griffin III for another three weeks, but they’re already confident enough that he’s their quarterback of the future that they’re teaching him their playbook.

In fact, Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has already traveled to Waco, Texas, where Griffin was the Heisman Trophy winner at Baylor, to meet with Griffin. And Chick Hernandez of Comcast SportsNet is reporting Shanahan will visit Griffin a couple times a week for the next several weeks.

This is an unusual situation where a rookie who hasn’t been drafted yet is actually getting more time with his coach than a veteran quarterback would get. Under the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Redskins aren’t allowed to open their offseason program yet. But they can visit with Griffin.

It’s also highly unusual that a team without the first overall pick in the draft is going into this kind of detail with a rookie. But the Redskins are confident enough that the Colts will draft Andrew Luck first that they’re already moving forward with Robert Griffin III.

So with nearly four months before the opening of training camp, Griffin is already getting tutored in the offense. Griffin should be ready to take the helm of the offense from Day One.
I bet McNabb wouldn't have done this ... and RG3int knows he won't be getting any playing time :)

Interesting, thanks for posting this (whoever claims first on this). I have thought all along that we knew exactly which QB we were getting....this just goes to support that thought process.

Don't necessarily think this translates directly to RGIII starting on opening day....a lot of ground to cover prior to that point....but like the fact that we are getting a head start on the playbook with our new QB.

With the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft...

The Washington Redskins select...

Janoris Jenkins, Cornerback, University of Florida.

Explained Bruce Allen, under protection of United States Marshalls of the USDOJ Witness Protection Program "We thought it would be neat to continue a J Jenkins theme for our defense... maybe I shouldn't consult with Vinnie Cerrato anymore..."

Was that wrong?
