Drafting a RB....?

Post by Chris Luva Luva »

If Chris Polk is lingering around in the third round, do we scoop him up? He seems like a perfect fit for the scheme.

That would be our first pick after QB, right? I say OL before RB.

I think Helu is a stud.

With our relative wealth at RB... it is a luxury that we cannot afford. We need OL... We need DB... We need ILB...

In the third round I think you gotta go for one one you project to play a position that's not your highest priority over sit on the bench at a position of need.

It's been said that while we have some good backs, none are "feature" backs...

Do you feel that we need a "feature" back? And if Polk was available, in which round would u take him? If you haven't, watch his highlights. He reminds me of Ray Rice.

If he's there in the 4th round, I'd take him.

That seems about right. I think this kinda starts in round 4 though. Early in round 3 a team like us should procure a starter.

Most of the time I think Rb's are a dime a dozen as people say. ALa Arian Foster in the 7nth round. I would rather take an Olineman like Blake than take Polk in the fourth , Probbably a 4th round or 3rd round prospect but we still have Helu and Royster.

BTW-No way Chris Polk is going to be Ray Rice.

In addition, to a great extent, Shanahan's system makes running backs. It is to running backs what Joe Gibbs system in the 80's and 90 was to quarterbacks.

While Shanahan would not sniff at a running back, he will look for depth at OL, which is really where he makes his money, now that he has (or will have) his quarterback.

The team seems pretty comfortable at RB. Personally, I'd rather see them get a guard, or look at Baylor's center. ILB wouldn't be so bad, either. London won't be around forever and it'd be nice to have someone already chomping at the bit for playing time when that happens, or if there's an injury.

I saw what Toby Gerhart did for the Vikings when Adrian Peterson went down, what Ben Tate did for the Texans when Arian Foster went down, and what Calil Bell did for the Bears when Matt Forte went down.

I'm gonna call Roy Helu a feature back. He's big, fast. strong, catches well, runs after the catch well, can pick up a blitz, and really knows when to cut it upfield. He's real good.

Also, from another thread:
DarthMonk wrote:Also, according to ESPN.com, Helu had one more catch than LeSean McCoy, more receiveing yards (379-315), more ypc (7.7-6.6), and more yac (432-409).

Who knew?

Per Chris Russel....
Keep an eye on Washington RB Chris Polk, for the #Redskins. Was a @seniorbowl, but 2nd at Wash in career rush ydg. Not an opinion.
Don't be shocked folks... Don't read too far into my projection that we'll draft other than that he fits the system. Just because we have good backs already doesn't mean we can't use another, or that Mike doesn't think that this guy could be special. Time will tell.

I still think they go one of the 3 positions of need... but he does run with a chip.

I don't even disagree, but for some reason I think they're eyeballing him.

I still think they'll get Polk today, time will tell though. He's the perfect fit for this system.

Some people are saying that there's a steep drop off in O-linemen after the 1st round and that U can get your money's worth in the 4th. If Polk is there in the 3rd, he's ours.

I agree with you in that if you see a player in the third you think is a gamer you take him regardless of the position. But why do you think Shannahan sees it with Polk but other teams don't? I know you're saying system, and that explains some teams but not all of them.

What are the choices? Add jj despite his 4kids w 3 different baby's mommas and is the Irishman drunk? Hardly a choice to consider much at all- for one of the above

I'm sure they do. I'm just saying that if he's there, I think we'll snag him.
