McShay/Mortensen talk RGIII and Skins mortgaging future

Post by mfaulconumw »

Hey guys-

Just came across this video of McShay and Mortensen at Baylor's Pro Day talking about RGIII, Luck, and whether or not the Redskins gave up too much for the No. 2 pick.

I see McShay says today: ""I don't really believe the difference between Robert Griffin III and Ryan Tannehill is all that big, to be honest."

WTF???

There are a lot of folks who really do like Tannehill's upside. Some believe under the right coach and situation he has the skill set to be Elite. Also, a lot of guys worry about RG3 having to start from day one and if it's the best for his career. I can't disagree but hope that RG3 shows everyone.

Fact is nobody really knows who is going to become a good player in the NFL

There is little doubt that RG3 and Luck are going to become very good QBs

There is a possibility that Tannehill might become a very good QB

There is NO WAY that anyone can predict that he's more likely to be a better QB than Luck OR RG3
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

RGIII

Post by rskin72 »

I pretty much agree with Jaws....I think that he breaks down QB play pretty darn well.....

Sounds like McShay was onboard the RGIII bandwagon on that video calling him a top 4 or 5 QB pick to come out of the draft in the past decade...., I don't know much about Tannehill but think that he is not in same class right now as RGIII or Luck....just look at some stats:

Tannehill had a completion % in 2010 of 65%, then 61% in 2011. His YPA was 7 for both years, his comp/att for 2010 was 152/234 for 1638 yds with 13 TD's and 6 picks, 2011 was 327/521 for 3744 yds with 29 TD's and 15 picks.....his team was 7-6.

RGIII was at 67% completion rate for 2010, and 72.4% for 2011. His YPA was 7.71 in 2010 and 10.68 for 2011. 2010 comp/att was 304/454 for 3501 yds with 22 TD/s and 8 picks, and 2011 291/402 for 4293 yds with 37 TD's and 6 picks....oh, and Baylor was 10-3 this season.

Think that there is no comparison that RGIII is the better prospect between the two....and I do not think it is real close. As McShay states in that article, Tannehill will need time to adapt adjust. RGIII (or Luck) will require time as well, but the adjustment may take a shorter period.....also, no comparison for me on stats.

McShay may just be trying to build up some excitement for the draft.....
