Ya I think that's what happens, but man I hope he comes back. I'd hate for us to low ball him and for him get a higher offer w out touching back with us or something... Doubt he and his agent act like that but its possible.
Without Fletch we have Riley and Mac as our ILB starters? W them both at 105% they still aren't one London.

I think Mac is a FA but I could be wrong. If he is, he leaves. Was on the bench the latter part of the year.
Fletcher is worth more because of what he brings off the field to a team that has almost half the players less than 3 years in the league. He's the leader on defense. If we do get a guy like RG3, I think he'll reach out to him immediately and coach him up. These kind of players don't grow on trees. We've got the cap space and without a doubt, he's worth the roster spot. Give him a 3 year deal, 20 mil that includes a 10m bonus (paid in 3 years back loaded). Make his salary tier down the 3 years so say 6m next year (5 m bonus), and then the final two the salary around Vet minimum (don't know those costs) and 3m then 2m bonus. The 3rd year, you can get out of the contract if need be but most likely you're signing him to a 1 year deal paying $11m for one year where we're not ready nor have a replacement for him.
Tim Ryan on sirius said today that we HAVE to get the deal done. If we don't, there's only one guy we go after and that's Steven Tulluck who was on the Lions last year and Titans before that.

You could say that London is more productive and a greater investment now at 37 than he was at 27. He's coming off of 2 pro bowls in three seasons. He led the NFL in tackles. If he were 27 he would become the top paid LB in the NFL. No question. But if we do resign him, we're paying him like he is one of the top LB's only because he is and has been and it's safe to assume that he will be next year. That's why my structure is basically a 1-2 year contract where the 2nd and 3rd year become expendable if you do find a quality replacement for him.

That contract structure sounds about right.frankcal20 wrote:You could say that London is more productive and a greater investment now at 37 than he was at 27. I don't have any question that Fletcher was as productive last year as at any time in his career. But I don't think its safe to assume anything about a 37 year old linebacker. Hines Ward was a 1000+ yard WR two years ago and as core a Pittsburgh Steeler as there is. The next year he shows up for 700 yards. The next year its 300 yards.
Its just a fact that as we get older our bodies are not as durable. Its a fact that these guys are going to hit a wall physically at some point. You can't pay London Fletcher like you would pay Patrick Willis.

Four days left until free agency starts. I don't know. I just have a feeling that Fletcher might sign elsewhere.
Would we make a run at somebody like Stephen Tulloch if we can't reach an agreement with Fletcher? He's ten years younger.

Fletcher is the leader of the defense and in a way the captain of this franchise
you cannot compare what he does to a WR
it's really simple - re-sign Fletcher or replace him with someone that can do what he does better - that is both a defensive leader and able to compete at a high level
PAY THE MAN
no worries - this FO will not let Fletcher go just yet

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but you need to pull your head out of the sand. Something is going on with the Fletcher situation right now. Don't be surprised to wake up next Wed. and find he's signed with Philadelphia.SkinsJock wrote:Fletcher is the leader of the defense and in a way the captain of this franchise

I will be VERY surprised if Fletcher is NOT re-signed by the Skins
I'll wait and see - cheers

I'm hoping the RG3 trade helps us get this and other deals done now that we don't need so much cap for Peyton. That was the tradeoff in the two. Peyton free for picks but expensive for cap, RG3 reverse. Now we need to use the cap to put a complete team around him. The other advantage is we have a couple more years to finish the job as Peyton would have been a win now solution. We have to improve, but it's not Super Bowl or Bust this year anymore.gay4pacman wrote:not sure how a deal won't get done this weekend. highly doubt he gets to march 13....

I must admit, I'm a bit of a homer about Fletcher - I really hope that in the next 24/48 hours we get this deal done
we are going to need to add free agents - Fletcher as starting MLB for at least 1 more year is not a bad thing IMHO
Pay the man AND give him the length of contract he wants - he's a great NFL player to have here

Fletcher
Think we need to get the Fletcher deal done, regardless of his age. He is the team leader on defense, and one of leads in the locker room. He is still a stud at linebacker, and knows the defensive scheme. We have too many other needs still (even with a QB) to have to worry about this position as well......even if you overpay a little, gotta get more out of the deal that we did with Haynesworth......Fletcher is a proven commodity, and a valuable one to us, would hate to see him in another uniform next season.
He isn't signed yet because the entire FO is trying to figure out when they arrived in communist china (not because communism is what is going on, but because apparently rules can be made up as we go along retro or pro actively to suit the needs of whoever's feelings got hurt last). I'm sure the plan was to get to him today, but that's what happens when you get kicked in the nuts 30 times in 18 hours.elprez19 wrote:Why isnt Fletch signed yet? 4 hours and he can sign with another team. WTF, this defense is regressing without him and no safeties.
-Santana Moss on Our QBI know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

communist china couldnt keep the world's greatest FO from signing 3 average wide receivers.emoses14 wrote: He isn't signed yet because the entire FO is trying to figure out when they arrived in communist china (not because communism is what is going on, but because apparently rules can be made up as

I think that Fletcher is getting to see what the market will bear - this is not a bad thing
This FO is not over-paying a 36 year old LB - EVEN 1 as great as London is, despite the fact that our D would lose a great leader
