Manning on Redskins???
Michael Lombardi on NFL Network was talking about Peyton Manning being traded by the Colts. He hypothicized that the Redskins would be a good landing spot. It would probably take a number 1 draft pick plus to get the trade done.
As for me, I would do if IF (and that's big IF) the cost wasn't high. No 1st round pick for him. Seconds, maybe 2. Manning is 35 years old and probably only has a couple more years to go.
What does everyone think about acquiring Manning? Hypothetically.

I wouldn't mind Peyton as a back-up but not as a starter. He calls his own plays, he wouldn't fit in here.

This is precisely the reason why I think it would be a good move to get him. Manning > Kyle Shanahan. However, I would only take Manning if it was a bargain (no 1st round draft pick, or several round draft picks) of some sort. But I don't see the Colts settling for anything other than a 1st round pick, so I don't think us Skins fans have to worry about anything.Red_One43 wrote:Peyton will need to go to a team where he can be the OC as well as QB.

You want to trade a first round pick for a player that will be 36 years old and is coming off of missing most or all of an entire season because of three neck surgeries, that had to go to Europe to try medical stem cell treatments on his neck that aren't allowed in the US, and then put him behind our offensive line? That only makes sense if your goal is to put an end to Manning's career.GoSkins wrote:Yes, if we only have to give up a 1st Rounder in 2013. Manning is the master. He will keep Kyle in place and lead the team until our 1st Round QB pick in 2012 is ready; which might be 2-3 years.

Right, and the fact that every other team knows this. Don't forget the bonus due in March. Manning right now is worth about a 3rd rounder this year, 2nd next, because teams know the Colts will cut him in March if they draft Luck, and he's 35, and he's coming off of that surgery so it's a HUGE risk all the way around. Absolutely no 1st or 2nd rounders please. Again, no way Allen brings Manning in.CanesSkins26 wrote:You want to trade a first round pick for a player that will be 36 years old and is coming off of missing most or all of an entire season because of three neck surgeries, that had to go to Europe to try medical stem cell treatments on his neck that aren't allowed in the US, and then put him behind our offensive line? These guys are not trading draft picks for ANY PLAYER - NO WAY, guaranteedGoSkins wrote:If Manning isn't healthy then we obviously don't trade for him.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
The ONLY way that Manning is not with the Colts next year is if he decides to retirechiefhog44 wrote:... The Colts are drafting Luck and hope that Manning is still able to play

I disagree. The Colts will do anything that improves the team. If they draft Luck, and Manning is healthy, he'll be on another team.SkinsJock wrote:The ONLY way that Manning is not with the Colts next year is if he decides to retirechiefhog44 wrote:... Bottom line is that Manning isn't just going to retire if he's healthy, and that's what you are suggesting if they draft Luck. The Colts would be foolish to move forward with both of them on their roster. So he will pull a Donovan and give the Colts a short list of teams to get traded to.

NOT AT ALL
1 Manning is ONLY going to retire if he's NOT able to play QB
2 I disagree with you that the Colts "would be foolish" to keep both - they would love it
Manning's health is a big concern to both Manning and the Colts

The Jets will be his new home if he's healthy and parts with the Colts. He'll be in a large market (NY) along with his brother and former Offensive Coordinator.
It makes perfect sense for the Manning Brand as well as for Peyton's chances to win another title.
Oh, and don't think the NFL won't get behind that. The Manning's battle for control of NY would be a marketing win for both teams and the League.

Never thought of that scenario, but I could see it happening now that you mention it. the jets have been a 'win now' team the last few seasons. The Hogster wrote:The Jets will be his new home if he's healthy and parts with the Colts.
