Eagles Near Last in Run Defense

Post by SprintRightOption »

Finally the Redskins get to play a team whose main weakness is run defense. Before today's game the Eagles were ranked 30th against the run. I think it's safe to assume we will see a lot of rushing next week built into the game plan, but who will have the most yardage?

HTTHH : Hail to Torain, Hightower and Helu.

I still think they start with Hightower then switch to Torain as the main back with Helu sprinkled in.

The problem is that the Eagles offense does rack up the points pretty quickly, so our offense might feel pressured to abandon the run and try to keep up with them through the air. Our defense is going to need to have a big game to keep things from getting out of hand.

This doesn't make me happy. Here's some brutal honesty.

1. We don't have a sensible commitment to the run.

2. We'll run it down to the redzone and MAYBE make the FG.

Jason Garrett and Kyle Shanahan went to the same OC school.
You are right there will be no commitment to the run - no matter how big big the lead.

Not if we keep them off the field with a solid running game moving the chains and eating up the clock.

OUR D should have a field day with vick until he bows out.. Shouldn't last past 2nd quarter. I forsee him faking an injury if need be. He's pretty vulnerable back there and we are a better D IMO probably the best they have faced. Cheers to pick sixs 4-6 man blitzezz abd torain movin the chains!

That is why before the season started I stated on NFL.com why the NFC East was up for grabs. The Eagles may have a potent offense, but Vick is too fragile and last years success may have been a bit of a fluke. I also stated their defensive front 7 is too small and teams will run the ball down their throats. I didn't expect their secondary to be as porous as it is.

The Giants I predicted their offense to be pretty solid but Eli will not be consistent and lose some games through poor decisions and bad throws. Defensively the Giants have one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL, but that wont be enough to save their bad secondary. Some teams have already proved they can run on the Giants, especially Arizona.

The Cowboys I predicted, well they will just self destruct. They are just not capable of getting all that talent too work together as a one cohesive unit. Their offensive line is a bit suspect as well and they have no running game. Their defense has been doing pretty well, but not enough to make them run away with the NFC East. I did predict their defense to be above average and better than that of the Skins, but thus far our defensive unit has been better than theirs in almost every catagory.

The Eagles do move the ball effectively, but like us can't finish in the redzone. But we can't count on them not finishing drives and turning the ball over every time. Hopefully, Kyle Shanahan stays committed to the run. The Eagles have a terrible run D, we have 3 good runningbacks, and running the ball keeps the Philly offense off the field. Why wouldn't he run the ball? I just hope he does because if he puts the game in Rex's hands it could be a huge mistake. Unfortunately I don't expect him to stay committed to the run.

we just played the rams and we didn't really stick with run in that game so i have no reason to think we will pound the rock so far we do not seem to notice weaknesses in teams ...... we have grossman lets throw the ball when should rely on a ground game and keep rex from making the right read.

love it .... EXCEPT this OC will not commit to the run game

AND ... Grossman does not know how to 'help' his offense score points

WE WIN because of the defense ..... & Beck finishes the game
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Beck? Really? I think both QB's are perfectly capable of handing the ball off lol

Can we NOT sound like a flippn giants or dare me say that other teams board?
POSITIVE thinkin yall its the secret right? Don't doubt build hope even wish for the highly un expected. 300+ yds passing and 200+ rushing. BOM smash the eagles into the bottom of the basement for good!

Oh here's some news I copied from the front page- posted in the call to Davis thread too but seems appropriate here as well

• TE Fred Davis? didn’t leave town during bye week, opting to work out, study film and catch passes from QB Rex Grossman? at Redskins Park.

Grossman & Beck are capable - we'll need Beck to help the offense score some points at the end of this game ... if not sooner

No thanks. I'd rather stay grounded in reality. Speaking honestly about a teams deficiencies isn't a bad thing.
