FIFA Women's World Cup....

Post by tribeofjudah »

USA vs. Brazil was poetic justice. Brazil goes home and it may be well deserved. Brazil was doing all kinds of gamemanship, wasting time, faking injuries (Erika), etc. It seemed the Refs had favored Brazil.

USA played with 1 less player for over 45 minutes.....wow.

Not to be.....USA wins and Brazil goes home. Time ran out of regulation and it came down to a shoot out.

USA Wins and stays alive......

1. I'm not a big big fan of Soccer/Footbal, but that was a good game
2. Brazil is a talented team....but they push the limit (almost cheating)
3. I'm not an expert in the INs and OUTs of soccer

I don't really watch soccer but got caught up with some friends today (all non-American) and they were rooting heavily for Brazil although USA was up 1-0. I didn't know it was a own goal that gave the US the lead. But I did learn how to play while I was in Germany and know that wasn't a foul that led to the PK that turned into a second PK.

My friends were raised on "football" by culture and they saw (or didn't see) the same thing I saw (or didn't see). In the end the game was tied, I thought the USA had been robbed ( mostly Solo) and so did everyone in the house. Once Brazil went up 2-1 everyone's true colors came out and we rooted the USA to victory without a single person standing against the USA.

Can't wait for Wed.

The only way the officials can be so blatantly taking sides in a game without immediately being sent home, never to call another game, is to have been directed by the parent organization to do so. There is no way FIFA was not involved in that crap.

It's not about wanting the USA to lose - I think it's more about wanting Brazil to win. You need to understand the football world's love affair with Brazilian football, in particular since the 1970 World Cup, and the heyday of Pele.

Personally, I'm not afflicted with the same rose tinted view of Brazilian football - they are guilty of at least as much diving, fouling, "simulation", and outright cheating as most other nations.

Marta is the Pele of women's soccer, and having her playing in the semi-finals is the one thing FIFA wanted, other than having her in the finals and winning the WC.

They just couldn't get them damn Americans to lay down, even when they were a woman down for half the match

I've often thought that soccer/football needs more than one ref. Gridiron football needs...what...four? And play always starts with the snap at the line of scrimmage. Soccer/football goes non-stop (theoretically) with players up and down the field. Even a good ref cannot always be in position to call a foul. Plus the fouling and diving are so close that a ref has more impact than in most other sports.

Regardless... it speaks to the integrity of the international game... there is none.

When talking about the on field officials, I think it's a question of competence rather than integrity.

When talking about some of the people holding high office in FIFA, then I agree your point about a lack of integrity.

Frankly, I think the "incompetence" of the officials on the field is a direct, perhaps even planned, product of the lack of integrety of the parent organization.

I think you give them too much credit my friend. However, there has been conclusive proof of cheating officials down the years, so I'm not going to argue the point with much conviction.

The Japanese were playing in a zone... they were on a mission... and deserved this win.

If the US had to lose... I'm glad it was to this team. They represent a wonderful people, who desperately needed this.

Yea that's a great point CT.. they were playing extremely well and definitely deserved it. I mean you can't argue with the way they came back and gave our girls hell.

It was girl's soccer. Football is played by men (Albert Haynesworth and Chris Collinsworth not withstanding)

These girls played great on both sides Japan and USA.
You have to tip your hat to those Japanese girls they really earned that win.

Did anyone see that game tying goal by the Japanese girl. She was running towards the ball and away from the Goal and back kicked the ball in for a game saving goal. It was amazing.
