STATEMENT FROM REDSKINS OWNER DANIEL M. SNYDER

“This has been an extremely difficult season for our organization and for the fans. Bruce Allen spent many hours examining the football operations, and we are both determined to do whatever it takes to build a championship team. That process begins today.

“No one in the organization is satisfied with our record over the last two years, and I am sure that Jim would concur with that statement. It has been painful for him too. I certainly accept responsibility for mistakes that I have made. I am hopeful that our fans will accept my commitment and pledge to deliver a franchise that can compete in the NFC East every season.

“Finally, I am mindful that this is a tough day for Jim and his family, and I do want to wish him success in his next endeavor.”

Why...you have a GM let him do this!!

It would be inappropriate for Snyder not to comment, he's the owner.

More times than not you never see the owner comment it usually always the GM or team predsident.

I think it has more to do with the apology at the end. This guy is trying to mend fences. I think he needs to understand that it's going to take time and him making the right decisions - the main one to get out of football operations and focus on getting your radio station back to being good again - which I don't listen too anymore really.

OK this is better...I just hope DS in not at the presser...

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – Washington Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen announced early today that Jim Zorn has been dismissed and will not return as the franchise’s coach in 2010.* Allen said Zorn was informed of the decision shortly after the team returned from its 23-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers Sunday.

Allen said his three-week game and preparation observations made the decision clear.

“The status quo is not acceptable.* I felt it was necessary to not waste a moment of time to begin building this team into a winner,” Allen said.

Allen will hold a press conference in the Redskins Park auditorium at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Not really. The owner should generally not be heard from. Rooney in Pittsburgh and Kraft in New England don't issue press releases very often. They have people in place (i.e. the GM or President) that are the face of the team that interact and communicate with the fans. I do agree with Frank that this was Snyder's attempt (albeit lame) at apologizing. However, going forward he needs to take a step back and stop doing this kind of stuff.

Yea well that's because those owners havn't comepletely effed a franchise up so much and ran it into the ground. They dont need to talk to their fans because they know they do the best work in the NFL and their fans trust them, that is not the case here.

True, but I don't think that fans want to hear Snyder talk. Nobody is going to believe anything that he says anyway. He just needs to get out of the way and let Allen run the show. That's what the fans want, not more words.

The best owners stay behind the scenes. The more public the owner is, the less he gets being an owner.

I understand that Redskins1 arrived in Denver CO and has just left that airport

Do you think that Bruce Allen has the ability to send that plane to pick up Shanahan or is Snyder just helping out

If we do get Shanahan there are only 2 concerns - will Snyder allow he and Allen to make the decisions AND will Shanahan be the kind of coach to insist on the the amount of player accountability that we need around here? I have no worry about Shanahan but I wonder if he's a strict enough coach because that is what we need here.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Dude has almost $2B invested... This is definitely nit picking and unrealistic to think this young active owner wouldn't be commenting on the changes in the organization...

Lets be fair guys, he writes the checks. If he wants to go urinate Bruce Allen in the press conference, he can as long as he writes Bruce's checks. I bet Bruce would take it with a smile if he throught he'd get a raise.

He sure did. I was sitting at my desk and smiling while listening to the presser because Allen sounded nothing like Vinny.

If he doesnt talk hes in hiding and a horrible owner. If he talks hes too envolved and messing things up being a horrible owner.

Nonsense. Nobody in their right mind would complain about Snyder shutting up and taking a back seat.

I didnt say anything about taking a back seat, of course that would be great. However that will never happen, or well... we have yet to see it happen, so it doesnt matter if he talks or not, the fact he IS so envolved is the real issue.

And half the other owners in the NFL are too old to talk or just have nothing good to say. Jerrah Jones is always flappin his gums.

Because Jerry makes no excuses or tries to hide the fact that he is the GM and the Dallas fans hate it!

Snyder fired Cerrato ... hired a valid GM .. the things everyone has been crying, moaning and gnashing their teeth over.

Let's let the hunting license expire for a few months and take a cautiously optimistic view that he's moving in the right direction.

I'm cautiously optimistic that he will finally take a back seat. The main reason being that I dont think that Shanahan would agree to come here otherwise.

First off Vinny resigned
Second...I'd love to give it to him but, what has DS done to deserve the benefit of the doubt???

What bothers me is Snyder puts all the blame on Zorn. How about being a man and taking some responsibility for your own actions? As if Snyder had nothing to do with the debacle that was this past two seasons.

Man I cant wait for the new coach already so we can see less of Snyder(I hope).
