Sellers probably won't get a raise, because of his age and for the fact that he is a fullback. Horton shouldn't get a raise this year, because he needs to prove himself for more than just one year.
I would have to disagree with the idea of Sellers deserving much of a pay raise. Honestly, I think that Sellers is vastly overrated my many Skins fans, largely for his 2005 season when he caught 7 passes. He is a solid blocker no doubt, but he is terrible carrying the ball in short yardage and has done next to nothing as a receiver the last few seasons. I've harped on the FO for not rewarding our own players in the past, but in this instance I think that they are right on in not paying Sellers more money. He might be a fan favorite but I don' t think that it would be all that hard to replace him as a player.
Yeah, I'm ambivalent about it. Clearly Sellers wants to make top-10 or even top-5 FB money. I don't see the harm in throwing another 250k or 500k at him — in the long run that won't matter much to the cap — but it's pretty clear that he wants more than that.
So what will it be? I don't think we should throw more than a few hundred grand at him, but maybe that doesn't satisfy Sellers. At that point, there's nothing more the Skins can really do. He's not worth much more. (And I disagree strongly with Jake that Sellers is somehow getting screwed.)
Is a contract a contract, or is a contract the piece of paper you sign to see how much money you can demand later? Sellers has redone his contract twice in the last four years. . .why is it so obvious that he has to get it redone again and be paid so much more?
Horton is definitely earning his payday, and I have to believe that's coming during this season or after it. We're going to want to lock in his services for a long time. In the meantime, he's certainly not getting screwed: did anyone at THN get a $350k
bonus last year?
