Predator48 should get a bigger paycheck....

Post by tribeofjudah »

I am one of feels that Horton should get a bigger contract with $$$ soon. He is one tough dude.

Then there's Chris Horton. Seventh-round draft pick in 2008, with a contract so modest it was worthy of the NFL's version of pity pay last year -- a $342,197 performance bonus because his playing time was so disproportionate to his salary.

Yep. I feel badly for the guy. He only got a bonus of 342K. Unlucky dude. How can a man expect to live on such wages?

He may be making $342K, but what the original poster is probably referring to is the salary compared to other NFL players who make 10 times as much and not as good. How do you not get that?

It's a GD BONUS! In today's economy why wouldn't you be thankful for a job, not to mention a 342K bonus?

Sorry Bro, but I don't make $342 /year, mush less as a bonus. They're professional atheltes. Some win, some don't win as much...WAAAAH!

Let's see how he does this year... if he has a big year the money will follow. He reminds me a bit like Ryan Clark. Who we let get away and he will be coming to town this weekend. Hopefully we won't make that mistake again. The one thing that DC teams don't do well is grooming young talent. I've moved to Philly a few years back and it's difficult being a Skins fan up here.... at least I have the Phils!

He did have a good year, but I'd like to see how he does this year before throwing a bunch of money at him.

And that bonus is just fine for a rookie out of the 7th round.

Not sure why you think he should get a big payday one year into his rookie contract. What kind of business sense does that make?

How about giving Sellers a raise before we even think about a second year safety?

Sellers probably won't get a raise, because of his age and for the fact that he is a fullback. Horton shouldn't get a raise this year, because he needs to prove himself for more than just one year.

Sellers has actually earned it. I like Horton but he only had a few standout weeks. And if Sellers fails to get a raise, it will be because of ownership that doesn't reward it's own players, not because of his age or position.

Part of the reason may be for the fact that ownership doesn't reward their players. I also think management knows that FB's aren't the big money makers and where is sellers going to go to make more money? Probably nowhere so they have him in a position where he can't really do much without punishing himself.

Yeah... umm... I'm not sure how many players in the history of the NFL have ever gotten a pay raise after their rookie season. I agree the kid is good, but give him a pay raise after one year? Umm... not sure I agree with that.

I think this kid could be very good and the fact that he is not earning what he is worth is just one of those things that happens in the NFL - there are a lot more cases of players making more than they deserve than the other way around and none of those players have to give money back anymore than players who do not make what they are worth (especially after 1 year) get given more money.

Horton got a bonus from the NFL because of what he did last year and if he continues to show he's a good player, he will get rewarded by his team
welcome to the NFL My 2 cents
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I would have to disagree with the idea of Sellers deserving much of a pay raise. Honestly, I think that Sellers is vastly overrated my many Skins fans, largely for his 2005 season when he caught 7 td passes. He is a solid blocker no doubt, but he is terrible carrying the ball in short yardage and has done next to nothing as a receiver the last few seasons. I've harped on the FO for not rewarding our own players in the past, but in this instance I think that they are right on in not paying Sellers more money. He might be a fan favorite but I don' t think that it would be all that hard to replace him as a player.

Danny Snyder do that? Nooooooooooooooooooo...

The Jake-Man is right.. and I think I change my mind, Sellars should get a raise.. him and CP are our best blockers on offense (RB/TE/WR wise), Sellars pounds the ball (lets forget about the goal line mistake), and he's pretty damn good on special teams.. he's valuable and a better question is if we don't take care of him, who we gonna have in the backfield with CP.. Betts? Rock? Sorry guys, I like Sellars in those situations.

Horton can wait, let him earn it but when he does (no ifs, this guy will be a star) I hope Danny pays up.

Yeah, I'm ambivalent about it. Clearly Sellers wants to make top-10 or even top-5 FB money. I don't see the harm in throwing another 250k or 500k at him — in the long run that won't matter much to the cap — but it's pretty clear that he wants more than that.

So what will it be? I don't think we should throw more than a few hundred grand at him, but maybe that doesn't satisfy Sellers. At that point, there's nothing more the Skins can really do. He's not worth much more. (And I disagree strongly with Jake that Sellers is somehow getting screwed.)

Is a contract a contract, or is a contract the piece of paper you sign to see how much money you can demand later? Sellers has redone his contract twice in the last four years. . .why is it so obvious that he has to get it redone again and be paid so much more?

Horton is definitely earning his payday, and I have to believe that's coming during this season or after it. We're going to want to lock in his services for a long time. In the meantime, he's certainly not getting screwed: did anyone at THN get a $350k bonus last year?

Horton hasn't earned it yet - yes he started in his rookie year, but he was a liability in coverage. Hopefully he will be even better this year.

I don't think either Sellers or Horton will ever see another contract from Snyder. Since the arrington/samuels draft, the team has only resigned two players (betts, cooley) to contracts for more than the minimum. Unless something changes soon, numerous players will walk in the next few years.
With the Cardinals reaching the Super Bowl, is Dan Snyder officially the worst owner in the league?

What's your source on that? Jansen and Samuels re-worked their deals multiple times. For half of the years you are citing, the people drafted are still playing on the first contract they signed.

And who did we draft in those years and let go that you think we should have re-signed for more than the vet minimum?

Unquestionably, Sellers is important. But, as stated above, he is a fullback.

I don't know how a guy can be expected to make a living and feed his kids on a $342K bonus, poor guy....
