March Madness 2009

Post by langleyparkjoe »

Ok so forgive me if there's a thread already out there but I didn't see one.

Day 1: 14-2.. My losses were Clemson and Minnesota.

Yea I know, how could I pick Minn. over Texas... I really like Tubby and that's honestly the reason I did. I thought that maybe he could get them riled up and boosted for the matchup but they fell short. The Clemson/Michigan pick I was battling with myself over it for a while but in the end I said "ACC is tougher".. what a loser..LOL

Don't be shy my friends, lets see how you guys did!!!

11-5 (Me and Obama).

I missed:
- VCU (you gotta hit that little jumper Maynor. ;furous; )
- Butler (changed it at the last second ;furious; )
- Illinois (lazy pick, didn't bother to look at the match-up)
- Clemson (:puke: )
- Miss State.

The only one that really screws me is MSU, because I had them in the sweet 16. The rest I all had losing in the next round anyway.

Oh, and Go Terps! (at least until tomorrow [-o< )

I'm gonna skip straight to the Sweet 16 here...

Wrong Picks

Wake Forest- WTF??? So blown at that one, now Arizona has that spot

Washington- I thought this was a no-brainer until I saw Purdue play

Florida St.- I made this pick assuming Fl. St. would get by Wisconsin in round 1 ](*,)

Correct Picks

Louisville- I have them winning the whole thing

Kansas, Mich. St.- I got Kansas in this one

UCONN- I had Washington facing them but either way I had UCONN winning

Missouri, Memphis- Memphis only losses this year was to 2 Big East teams (Syr & GT) and 1 loss to the Atlantic 10 with Xavier. Missouri is playing strong but Memphis will prevail.

Pittsburgh- Though I had FL. St. beating Xavier, it doesn't matter to me, Pitt takes this game over Xavier.

Villanova, Duke- LETS GO NOVA.. This pick is fueled by my hatred for Duke, I could care less about stats in this one but I really love watching G. Henderson play, that guy is friggin awesome.

UNC, Gonzaga- Nice run Gonzaga, meet Ty and Hansborough.. UNC takes this one.

Syracuse, Oklahoma- This is part 1 of my upset package as I have the Orangemen shutting down the Griffin boys. This pick is partially because I love the Big East and the fact that Boheim's zone defense is ridiculously solid.

As of current I'm 4th in my league, here are the numbers:
#1- 193
#2- 187
#3- 178
#4- 175
#5- 172

Yeah, my blind faith in the ACC was my undoing. That being said, my final four of MI State, Memphis, UNC and Louisville is still alive. I've got Memphis taking it all, just because I knew they'd have a chip on their shoulder. It pained me to pick them over Maryland, but not as much as the game they played against Maryland did.

Shut up Vasquez. Show up every game, then you can talk schtein. Dumbass.

As a Terp alumn, it's kind of funny...I picked Clemson and FSU to bow out in round 1, because...they're Clemson and FSU. They stink.

FSU playing Wisconsin was a sucker's bet, because FSU is a dumb team, and Wisconsin is a tournament-tested team, with a tournament-tested coach.

And I knew Clemson would lose just because they're Clemson. Again, they stink.

However, I was really surprised to see Wake go out so early.

As for Vasquez, comments or no, Maryland was going to lose that game. Gary insisted on pressing Memphis, a bigger and more athletic team. If Maryland had slowed the game down, and made Memphis try to beat them with the half-court game, Maryland had a chance. However, by trying to outrun one of the most athletic teams in the country, Maryland got blown out.

Having watched both teams, I think the best Maryland could have done was lose by fewer points, Memphis is simply a better, deeper team.

I completely agree that Memphis was going to beat Maryland 10 times out of 10. So why egg them on and encourage them to beat you by 19 (in a game that wasn't even really that close) and embarrass you.

And Pulp, the second I saw the press, I thought to myself, "Wow. What a stupid idea." 30 seconds later, when its like 83-4, I thought to myself, "Yeah, that was a worse idea that I even thought originally."

Oh well. Go Lady Terps. If they can make it to the finals against UConn, anything could happen. They've got the only backcourt in the country (beside the Lady Sooners, perhaps) that can hang with the UConn guards, and they've got some talent in the post. More importantly, they'll have motivated Seniors with nothing to lose, and UConn will be feeling like the 18-0 Patriots two years ago.

I don't know that Maryland would win regardless, but I think it would be an entertaining game.

Lady Terps.. 2 words (names).. MARISSA COLEMAN

She will be our savior in the upcoming games. Between her and Kristi it looks very promising. I am nervous about those UCONN girls (if we get there) but I'm confident regardless.

Yeah, MC was a little out of whack that first game. Hopefully she'll be more like herself against Utah. If not, this game won't be as easy as the Dartmouth game.

And KT, is dynamic. I wish the men's team could have borrowed her this season. They need a consistent playmaker to make up for the fact that they have no one over 6'7" and everyone playing out of position. When Vasquez was on, they could beat UNC. When he wasn't, they could lose to UVA.

Kansas lost to Tech and didn't look too good in the Big-12 tourney against a hot Baylor team. They haven't exactly had the hardest road playing the 14th and 11th seeds, yet they couldn't blow them out either. I could definitely see them going down too.

Dag gone it Sir Monk, you jinxed it!!! LOL!!! I just realized your from ST. Louis so you already knew how good those kids play. I should've researched better but I just thought Memphis wouldn't go down w/out a fight. I mean, they did come back but it wasn't good enough. Congrats to you man! Funny thing, I lost that one but I jumped from 4th place to 2nd place last night. The other guys didn't do so well. Oh.. check this out, dude in 1st place had Memphis winning the whole thing so he's pretty much done. Now I need these guys tonight to help me solidify my win. Victory will be mine!!! I hope [-o<

Oh well, it was fun watching a team that everyone, even the local media here thought would finish .500 at best.

Hopefully she isn't exhausted tonight. Louisville plays like Vandy, only better. Plus their best player is from Baltimore, and may not like Maryland for letting her go to Louisville.

Yeah, that game was not good. The Lady Terps seemed out of it last night. Like they weren't up for the fight or something. I knew Louisville played the style of game that Maryland had trouble with, and that they might lose, but the way they lost surprised me. Kristi Tolliver was sloppy with the ball, continually dribbling into the corner double team, dropping passes. Not the KT that's been dominent. They couldn't make a shot or get a rebound for almost the entire second half.
