How long has everyone been a Skins fan?

Post by Jake »

I've been a Skins fan my WHOLE life, literally.

Me during the Redskins victory in Super Bowl 22!
(Jan. 87)

Me at RFK. Tydus Winans is on the left and his parents are above my head. (1994)

Tydus got a nice Edgewater Blue Devils signed t-shirt from rookie o-lineman... Jake Russell! (1995)

Me and my boy K-Mitch after the Panthers opener. (2000)

I got a chance to wish Leomont Evans well after his almost paralyzing hit in the 2002 HOF Game against the Giants. This was at the Skins-Eagles MNF game against the Eagles in 2002.

Exactly 16 years after I was born, my niece, Madison, was born, and was born a Skins fan, as much as her father (Bears fan) and mother (Vikings fan) wouldn't like to admit! (Mar. 2004)

So, officially, I have been a Skins fan since 1987. I was born in September of that year. How long has everyone here been a Skins fan?

I've been a fan for a very long time. My mom and her friend used to take 6 kids packed in their station wagon to Redskin's park when the bus was loading for away games. It was in the early 80's. I remember meeting Theisman, Riggins, Dave Butz, Joe Jacoby and on and on. But my mom lost her copy of the pictures. I need to find out if her friend still has hers.
My little guy has a very similar picture to that one of you Jake. I'll have to get Jansenfan to scan it and post it.

Lets See, Iwas born in 1988 so I guess that means I have been a fan since...... 1988. It is pretty simple. Redskins Fans usually influence their kids to be skins fans too.

I remember having my little redskin's sweat suit. My dad was in the Air Force then so we lived in Texas. I remember wearing it to pre school and the teachers would say "Hey you have the wrong shirt on" I would come back and say things like at least we just won the super bowl.

Yeah thats right Ive been getting made fun of about being a skins fan since day one. I ve heard it all.

I lived in Maryland where for some reason it was about 50-50 in redskins and Cowboys fans. I remember every time we lost to the Cowgirls we would be made fun of all day.

Then I lived in Japan from 98-01 so they would say I thought you guys were supposed to go to the super bowl in 2000.

Then I had to move to New Mexico. A small school. 500 kids. 499 cowboy fans. Guess who got it that tuesday after we lost to Dallas on Monday Night.

And now I m back here in skinz country. North VA.

So basically thats why I got the name Skins Fan 0-16 or 16-0. I ve been all around the world. Made fun of everywhere. I remember crying when I was smaller because of crushing losses. Ive been here with the good and the bad,

My Dad is a skins fan. My grandad is a skins fan. There is no way I will ever cheer for another team. (Unless their playing the Iggles, the cowgirls, or the little guys)

You and me both, my man. :( I hear it every day, too and have learned to be numb to it. When you hear it all the time, it gets very old and has no effect anymore. 8)

Geee!!!

I have been a Redskin since 1970!

George Allen, Jurgensen, Kilmer, Taylor and Larry Brown gave me 110% everytime!

Then came Joe. I will always be a Redskin but on top of it I am a Gibbs fan. I am truly a Redskin-Gibbs fan.

Playing with dignity and respect for yourself, playmates, opponents and the public. It is not done very often in professional sports anymore. Joe Gibbs and -his- Redskins will.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I was born and raised a Redskin fan. My dad has always been a Redskin fan and my granddad was a Redskin fan before he passed in 1980 when I was six, a year before Gibbs came to Washington. He didn't even get to see the glory years with Gibbs. That sucks. Maybe he was watching the Gibbs era with the man upstairs.

Since 1971. As I can recall, that was the year that they wore the "R" yellow helmets. My favorite offensive player was Larry Brown, and Defensively, I like Brig Owens and Chris Hanburger.

P.S. Hated the Cowgirls since the George Allen days.

Was a cowboys fan (as the only games we got here in the 70's were superbowls) as I hated Terry Bradshaw's attitude.

then in 1980 I saw the light and became a skins fan (they started showing games other than super bowls)

I can't help you, but, I do agree, some of the posts make me feel old.

I've been a fan at heart, since I took a picture near the Washington Monument with a Redskins jacket on when I was about 3-4 years old, roughly 21 years ago. I started loving football in elementary school, but didn't follow the Skins too much, since my father was a huge soccer fan (Latin first love). It wasn't until our last Super Bowl that I REALLY started following the Skins.

Since then, I haven't had the glorious opportunities that jake has had (to be at so many games and stuff), but I have been to a hadnful, and I worked for a few months at the Redskins store at Montgomery Mall.

I'm looking forward to making it to training Cmap this year for the FIRST TIME!!!

Okay, lifelong at heart, 12 years doing do avidly.

Since 1970 I remember my 1st Redskin jersey was #43. Larry Brown was the man!

Although I was born with Burgandy & Gold Blood, I didn't really care much about football till I was around 13 or 14 years old. I did attend a game with my grandfather at Christmas time when I was around 6 but all I remember about that was Santa jumping out of a football. Anyway, I decided since my mom was too busy watching the Skins on Sundays and she never fixed dinner that I may as well join her and see what was more important than food. Thus...my love for the Skins bloomed. That was approximately 35 years ago. As you can see I've passed along my love for our Skins to Jake...and my new Granddaughter Madison. Some call it brainwashing...I call it inheriting a great tradition. :-)
