Redskins preseason favorite Marcus Mason has been signed by the New York Jets from the Ravens practice squad to fill the spot opened by the season-ending injury to RB Jesse Chatman. It’s possible that the Jets have had Mason on their radar since he carried the ball 9 times for 55 yards against them in the preseason game better known as Brett Favre’s Jets Debut — he’s highlighted in the NFL.com postgame Quick Take as “extremely impressive” — but either way, he’s off the board.
Everyone who has been convinced that the Redskins were going to realize that releasing Mason was a horrible preseason mistake (and act on that realization by cutting Shaun Alexander and re-signing Mason) can finally let go of the dream. That said, he was a local product (Georgetown Prep!) and seemed like a good guy; hopefully he’ll find some success in New York.
I admit, I really liked Mason and hated to see him go. Even though we all knew the Skins were extremely deep at RB, for some reason, I had hoped there would've been a way for him to make the team.
As far as I'm concerned, he will be missed. Good luck with the Jets.
