Reed Doughty

Post by BadgerKing »

As the game was aired at 01:15 am UK Time I haven't watched it yet but several media outlets stated that Reed played well. Whilst understanding Reed Doughty could never replace the maginifcant and once in a millenium skills of Sean Taylor, I would still be very interested in gauging the opinions of the board as to how Reed is playing and progressing. For instance is he likely to be a starter next year or will we be seeking veteran help through Free agency and he will be consigned to a back-up role.

All opinions would be welcomed

I thought he played pretty good...during the game he showed both good cover skills, sniffed out a little screen pass and then blitzed on one play and Eli threw it away... will never replace ST but played pretty good... he is better that Archuleta!

played pretty good, but there was an interception for the taking and he missed it. He played solid, but I miss ST back there. Can he start, yea.

I don't think there's anything 'wrong' with Doughty... but I'm not sure he's quite good enough to be a a full-time starter... not yet anyway. The added playing time this season and another off-season might put him close, but I personally do not want to go into next season with two starting safeties that are so inexperienced.

My 2 cents

That's not to try and take anything away from Reed - he played a solid game against the Giants.

Reed played okay, but it is Landry that has taking over Taylor's position. Doughty was good in coverage but he still needs to work on his tackling.

I thought he really stepped it up last night. I think he had 3 passes defended, and was involved in several tackles. You can clearly see improvement with each game.

Correct, Florida, Reed is playing Strong safety, so it's really tough to compare the two when he's not playing ST's position. He didn't do too bad, though.

On a side note, I see Landry making the same mistakes ST did early in his career. Spectacular play followed up by a unsportsmanlike. Let's hope he learns a lit quicker than ST did !

I pretty much agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread. In the long-term I'm not sold on Reed Doughty, but I don't want to take away at all from his performance last night, which was admirable.

Reed played well but he did get away with a couple calls.. there were definetly a couple times that he probaly should of been flagged for illegal contact or pass inteference but overal ive been happy with him back there.. but as said by a few others on here im not yet sold on him being our everyday starter from here on out.. we will just have to wait and see .. but for now im not losing much sleep with him back there

I actually felt Landry was channelling Taylor last night. His play last night was eerily similar to Taylor's play his first year.

I think the flag after he hit Burress was stupid, you've got to let the guys talk some smack to each other, especially since Shockey did that all game until he left with an injury. Honestly, that kind of flag reinforces for me that the league is out of touch with its fan base.

Funny, I was literally thinking that same thing. I was also thinking that perhaps Taylor may have had something to do with all those dropped passes by the Giants last night as well. Maybe we had 12 guys playing on defense last night. O:) O:) O:)

While I agree with you, I feel that the slashing motion is what did him in.

Definitely. If he had limited it to words the refs might have talked to him and told him to cool it down, but that gesture can't be excused.

Valid point. I even saw referees standing directly next to Shockey while he was trash talking. I think the only reason a flag was thrown was because Plexico was flat on his back with stars circling around his head and LaRon standing directly over him. If Landry had done that a few feet away, they never would have thrown the flag.

As I said last night; young player, heat of the moment, high intensity level... he'll learn. I saw Marcus talking to him immediately after the play was over. Not really a huge deal in my opinion, he'll learn, he's just young and excited.

I think you are referring to smoot. There were a lot of iffy plays that went uncalled.
There are only two teams I root for in the NFL. The Skins, and whoever is playing Dallas.

It's okay that we drafted a Landry. After this season, the crygirls will have a new association with that name.

no I was referring to Doughty but Smoot could have gotten called a couple times as well.. almost as if the refs were on our side for once.. those spots they were giving the Giants were horrible.. but im not complaining

The bad calls went both ways. There were several interference calls on the Giants that were not made. We got away with a couple, too. Overall, a poorly officiated game, but I also think they were just trying to let the players play for the most part.

To answer your question, BK: There were a couple of plays where I said to my father, Sean Taylor would have made that play, but overall, I felt he filled in admirably.

I think he is playing pretty well. As long as Landry is in the backfield with him I think he can be a capable starter.

Ugh, I disagree. He's playing well above what I assumed he'd be able to do but I don't think he's a starter. He's a capable backup.

..Kind a agree with CLL but im torn on the matter. I think the next few weeks will tell us more about Reed. He still NEEDS to turn around on deep balls or he will be a walking pass interefence all his career.

But I like him ...and he gets paid NO MONEY!...I like guys that contribute with no cap repricusions(we only have a few..lol0

this is my worst nightmare...

Dallas cuts the most overated def player in the NFL ---Roy williams --if you have seen ...he plays only 60% of the snaps there

and we spend bucoo dollars to bring him here.. and boom he sucks for us

Reed might start next year only because we have ALOT cap sitautions on next years roster and some cheap alternatives will be welcomed...

I think Reed can be a solid Safety. I hope we keep him around for next season as a starter or at least coming off the bench.

But yeah, he can only get better.

Reed played pretty well, but I always questioned him as a starter. Then again, he beat out Prioleau, Fox and Stoutmire for the position... so what do I know?

Edit to say... there is a stud player, that very well could be there for the taking, that I'd really like to see take Sean's place. I've been biting my lip for some time now about this guy and the anticipation is killing me. But I don't want to say anything yet, cause it will start a firestorm. But after the season is over, I will be campaigning for this player in a major way. [-o<
