Samuels Puts Rumors To Rest

Post by Jake »

He was shown on Comcast Sports Net and he said that he has talked to his agent (calm down guys  ) and Vinny Cerrato and they both have told him he won't be traded. He said he wants to remain a Redskin for a long time. Thank you Chris!

Also, Rod Gardner supoposedly said or has been told he will not be traded.

The info below is from the PFW chat on espn.com last night. Where there's this much smoke, there is often fire no matter what Chris and Rod say. It'll be an interesting draft day that's for sure.

What have you heard about the current state of the Chargers plans for #1 pick? Are they in discussions with Wash and NY as reported in rumors?

Nolan Nawrocki: (5:16 PM ET ) The Chargers will open negotiations with one of two players tomorrow -- Eli Manning or Robert Gallery -- possibly both. Based on my discussion with GM A.J. Smith yesterday, I think it's going to take an awful lot for the Chargers to give up the top pick. But the Redskins definitely have enough ammunition with veterans Chris Samuels, Patrick Ramsey and Rod Gardner also possibly on the trading block. The big question is where Gallery will be drafted. Many talent evaluators believe the true object of the Giants' desire is Gallery, not Manning. The Raiders and Browns also have big holes at left tackle. Although team officials from both the Redskins and Raiders have denied talks have taken place, a team official told me otherwise late last week, and it would not be a surprise to me if Samuels is dealt on draft day.

I bet if you ask that same guy about the salary cap implications of trading Chris Samuels, he says, 'huh?'.

I'll never say it's impossible, because nothing ever is, but I'm definitely going to say it's extremely unlikely. Some of the reasons, I mentioned here...

To me this comment from PFW loses all credibility when it includes Patrick Ramsey in the 'possible tradables'... If this guy's saying Ramsey's on the block, then he's calling Gibbs a liar, because Joe has repeatedly stated that this is not so...
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I agree with Bosshog (once again! :-) The salary cap ramifications are huge in itself. Plus, Gibbs' word is as good as a signed contract as far as I'm concerned. I'm not saying it will never happen b/c there are always scenerios that can arise. However, Gibbs is trying to build the trust of his team. His word was huge in his first go around and there's no reason to think different this time around. Keep Ramsey, Keep Samuels... Gardner - I can go either way but I'm happy with any decision this coaching staff makes...

good point about the ramsey mention. it does lessen this guys cred a great deal.

i still think there's got to be something to the samuels bit though - i agree with your analysis about the trade, boss - but too many people with cred have mentioned it. i wonder who his source is . . . raiders or redskins?

and i thought it was odd that the recent redskins.com article on bugel didn't include a single samuels quote about the future of the o-line. okay - i'm reading tea leaves there - he was probably in alabama when they wrote the article(roll tide!) and he didn't take part in the mini-camp because of his rehab - but little signs like sometimes indicate what's going on behind the scenes.

I'm happy Gardner and Samuels are both staying. They're both good players with character.

The big question, in my mind, isn't who is staying and who is going. The question is, are you willing to "take one for the team", or so to speak, by restructuring your unwieldly contract ? Are you going to let your agent do all your thinking for you ? If so, you likely (and I did say "likely", as in "quite possibly") don't meet the criteria of "core guy".
Don't get me wrong. Get the money while you can. That's fine. But if your numbers cripple the team, do what you can to help. That's all.

True, but then again there was the Bryan Johnson scenario. I'll believe it when all the dust settles. Remember, Samuels and Ramsey are represented by the same agent (Sexton) who is not happy with the redskins right now. Hopefully we will take the safety or trade down.
