Eagles QB Feeley fractures hand

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Eagles QB Feeley fractures hand
Rookie Kolb could be No. 2 to McNabb

PHILADELPHIA -- So much for NFL preseason games being meaningless.

The Eagles suffered more than just a loss when they fell to the Jets 13-11 in their preseason finale Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Quarterback A.J. Feeley fractured his left hand in the first quarter, clouding his status for the Sept. 9 season opener at Green Bay.

Coach Andy Reid said Feeley broke the third metacarpal, but he expected the backup quarterback to be OK by the opener. Feeley will see a hand specialist today.

If Feeley isn't available, the backup to starter Donovan McNabb is rookie Kevin Kolb.

Given McNabb's injury track record, having a backup with no regular-season snaps under his belt seems like dangerous territory. But Reid didn't seem to mind.

"That's fine," he said.

At least, Kolb has looked capable of running an offense. He engineered a 13-play, 90-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter, connecting with Zac Collie for a 25-yard TD to cut the Jets' lead to 10-9 with 2:57 to play.

Reid elected to go for a two-point conversion, and Kolb threw to rookie running back Nate Ilaoa for an 11-10 lead.

Too bad they couldn't stop the Jets. They marched 65 yards and won on a 35-yard field goal by Mike Nugent as time expired. The Eagles finished the preseason 1-3.

If McNabb goes down and Feeley isn't ready, the job of leading the Eagles falls to Kolb, who had just one series with the starting unit, last Sunday against Pittsburgh.

"I think if it presents itself, it'll be all right," Kolb said.

They might have ship Kelly Holcomb to Minn. a week too soon
