Lets Exercise Some restraint

fellow fans, with all these swirling rumors. While they make for excellent water cooler banter, they also tend to elevate the blood pressure for most die hard fans, and I know ALL OF YOU fall into that category.

Lets talk about Betts for instance. I am amazed that so many of you seem to believe that he is on the block. rest assured he isnt going anywhere. How do I know this? For the same reasons you know this, if you would simply get past the excitement and just think deeply for a moment or two.

CP is hardly John Riggins. Heck, he isnt even Ernest Byner. I am not talking talent; I am talking durability. He did have a couple games two years ago where he carried 30+ per game, but his ypc was way down and it really took his toll. This past year Saunders was very underwhelmed with CP the way Cp always took himself out of the game. CP is good for 24 carries per game, which is perfect b/c Betts carrying the ball 15-16 times would be percfect.

Betts signed a very cap friendly contract, not as a starter, but as a backuup. A very valuable backup. the league now knows he can come in 4-5 games in a row, carry the ball 30+ times and run for a high ypc average. B/c of all that, he is a very valuable commodity, so lots of teams inquire as to his availability. Dont for a second think that Gibbs will part company though.

Think draft picks. We dont have many. We have clear needs at the dline, left OG, MLB (for the future since Fletcher is a 3 year stopgap at best) and longterm in the secondary. Heck, we could even use a reliable 3rd wideout.

What we do NOT need is a backup rb, betts being in the fold. Thus, trading him even for a 2d round high pick makes no sense. Why? B/c we would have to use that 2d round pick on a rb to replace him. Why trade from a position where we have no need and in the process create another hole that must be filled?

If Betts is dealt the return will be high. It will be a high 2d AND a player OR a 2d and a 3rd. That would allow us to get a rb in the 2d and a guard in the 3rd.

Betts is a core Skin. HE could have teste dthe open market and gotten alot more. Gibbs will not trade him unless he is overwhelmed with the offer.
