Gates says U.S. is not winning Iraq war

Post by dnpmakkah »

Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, conceded Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and warned that if that country is not stabilized in the next year or two it could lead to a "regional conflagration."
LINK HERE

This time its not me saying it...or that bum Annan (as some of you like to think of him) but its Gates who said so. The U.S. Secretary of Defense in waiting. I truely hope some positive change comes regarding the Iraq situation. The past 4 years has been an extreme embarassment to this nation.

Untill a country is completly demolished, or close to it like Japan in WWII, how can you say a country is going to win or lose. A lot of people thought we were stupid for going into Japan, and were going to lose, but look at the outcome, we crapped on them.

Either way, if we would have finished the job the first go around we wouldnt be putting up with this.

Like I said, they need to shoot of some crap to piss of the other side, get the hell out of there, and let them finish each other off, and then never have association with the Middle East again. The Middle East has been the problem since the beginning of Jesus.

Oh oh you better watch out. The crowd of THN is going to come after you for saying that. Many people on this site don't like to hear things that sound bias and now you've done it....I hope they take it easy on you.

Oh wait what was I thinking. Most people here don't give a damn what happens outside the U.S. yet alone what is said about 'dem fourners'. So I guess your words are good as gold here.

 I thought this would surprise people given that its a U.S. offical saying it. Usually its either me saying it, a national from another country, democrat or liberals...which is usually always dismissed. This time however it's one of their own and its gotta sting a bit.

P.S. Trix ARE for kids.

Are you taking people's lack of interest in your continual political-in-the-lounge posts to signify a general apathy toward world news and events?

Now, now Irn-Bru, dnpmakkah cares about those topics so those of us who ignore them are clearly ignorant and simple-minded folk (which is true in my case)

Fun? Yes. Historically accurate? Not likely. The problems started long before Jesus.

Chill out bro. The dude was speaking in absurdities and I decided to make a joke. I thought it was pretty funny myself but if you thought not then more power to you. It almost seems like you took my joke to heart. I wasn't talking about you. I wasn't talking about anyone in specific. If my joke made you think it was about you....well then ooops

When people 'ignore' my thread I look at it as not a 'lack of interest' but more so that the facts are beginning to speak for themselves therefore no one has anything to say unless of course they are just pulling stuff out their arse.

When I state my own opinions people will naturally dismiss it because "I don't know anything" or I'm "bias". I try to avoid that situation by posting opinions from more credible people. So I post articles quoting Kofi Annan saying the same thing. People read that and the post count gets a bit less. People will try their best to dismiss his thoughts also and rightfully so considering he is not American so he must be lying. OK fair enough, anybody who is not American or Republican must have an agenda against Bush or America therefore their way of thinking is bias right?

So now I post an article quoting the U.S. Secretary of Defense saying the same exact thing that I and other members of this forum have been saying for months if not years. You can dismiss my opinions as so many of you have been quick to do but you can't argue with what Gates said. Thats why this thead has been ironically lacking in the developmental phase.

People can't argue with what he is saying. Gates is an American just like you. He was born and raised here, hand picked by Bush himself. A good ole White American with no flaws to his name. Shoot he might even be (dare we say it) Republican too. What kind of agenda would he have? None thats what. That my friend is why no one is taking in interest in my threads. The facts are begining to speak for themselves. I'm just chilling here streching my legs and enjoying the show.

I'm not really sure where you got this from. . .I write a single question and now I'm taking things to heart? I didn't think it was aimed at me, and even if I did my question would have been the same.

Like I said before, this is a Redskins message board ;) I don't take things I see here to heart; otherwise I would have quit reading every post on this board a long time ago.

Look, I've got nothing to do with the Republican party; I think the war in Iraq (and Afghanistan) is an abomination; I resent strong nationalist sentiments because I think they hurt everyone (including the nationalists); finally, I'll be happy when Bush is out of the White House. I'm not one of the 'silent conservatives' that you seem to be addressing.

But be realistic for just a minute: these political threads that you start are ridiculous. It doesn't look to me like you're interested in true dialogue, but rather it seems as if your delight is in taking shots where you can get them and rubbing it in when you think you're right. I'm all for good political conversation when it happens on this board--which isn't all that often--so I can't help but notice when a thread smells like bait.

Is it any surprise that people don't contribute? This is a Redskins message board, after all. . .

I can respect your opinion and I'm sorry you feel that way. Some people just don't care about politics. While others only care about it when it is about a cause they agree with. I on the other hand post what I feel displays the real behaviors of the American policy.

No bait...just posting articles. People have called me names, dismissed what I've had to say and continued to take potshots at me for posting my opinions on various current affairs. All I care about is getting the facts out. Last dude said we should wipe out all Middle-Easterner or something like that. What did I do? Joke back is what I did.

Trust me, I don't expect to receive a healthy political dialogue with people who's lives revolve around football. There are other places where I can get that from. Most people here are more passionate about a football game moreso than real life and I understand that. People don't have to respond to my threads. I'm just spreading the news. If no one replys believe me you won't hear me crying over it. I almost expect it.

I think that you're missing my point. I'm very interested in politics and world affairs, and my interest is not limited to when something agrees with my viewpoint.

No bait...just posting articles.

. . .often. . .exclusively from your viewpoint or "experts" that are verifying it. . .and sometimes with sarcasm. Not much of it seems very constructive to me.

That's just my couple of cents, and I wouldn't have even posted in the first place had you not made several remarks to the effect of 'THN people don't care about politics or things that differ from their viewpoint [because they don't respond to my threads].'

It's cool if you want to keep posting the stuff in the lounge--it's your prerogative, and I'm not calling you names or telling you to stop--but I had to make the simple note that people are far more interested in world news than you are giving them credit for. Don't confuse people not commenting to be anything other than. . .people not commenting.

That's all you're going to hear from me on this. . .I didn't think that it was going to take 3 posts to get my viewpoint out, as I thought the original post was clear enough, but I often surprise myself with my inability to communicate clearly.

Seems like most people who took this poll are educated enough to understand when something is lost. Anyone who thinks the war is going good just doesn't grasp the concept of losing and what it looks like. Personally I think 100% of the people across the globe can see that this was a losing war to begin with and 4 years into it America is losing badly. The only reason they wouldn't want to admit it is because it would be admitting fault and defeat and some peoples pride won't allow them to take such a hit.
