NBC has been slashing budgets in all areas of its broadcasting entity -- and that includes WRC-4, which it owns and operates.
Some of those cuts were going to be in Ch. 4's sports department. And, as George Michael himself tells dcrtv.com, he'd take the bullet himself before laying off anyone else.
I don't know if that meant Czarniak or Hellie or if it was his wife/head writer, Pat Lackman, or others in the department.
But as of March, GM will leave the nightly news desk AND the Sports Machine. In fact, when he goes, the Sports Machine goes with him.
He will still be under contract with NBC, but only as host of Redskins Report, the Joe Gibbs Show and, probably, Full Court Press -- and to do the Monday night schmoozing to Gibbs and Bugel.
