With this season coming to a close there will be some job openings for head coaches and I was wondering how many there would be. We know about the opening in Detroit and Norv is as good as gone in Oakland. Nothing is real that clear though. Vermeil may walk away from the Chiefs and it is rumored that the Jets would then be in the market HC.
Then we have the Rams and what’s going on with Martz….
The Bills aren’t real happy with Malarkey…
Hasslet wants to coach the Saints but doesn’t want to work for Benson…
Tice seemed to have turned the corner but it now appears he made for left turns and is right back where he started.
Sherman could use a rest and Green Bay may be ready for a few changes.
Then there is Denny Green(Az), Bill Bilick(Balt), Don Capers(Hou) and Jeff Fisher(Tenn) who may want to screen their calls starting next week.
That’s about a dozen coaches that may be out of work next year some as soon as next week.
Just for fun I wanted to see how many coaches others can come up with.
Normally around this time of year I do this to see who how next coach may be… It’s a lot more fun this year.

ESPN is reporting Vermeil has announced his retirement at the end of todays game. He says Tice is out this week. Norv is out and Hasslett wants a raise or to be fired in NO.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Packers have fired head coach Mike Sherman. General Manager Ted Thompson informed his coach that the franchise was heading in another direction early this morning.
The move comes one day after the Packers took a 23-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks, albeit a Seahawks team that was resting for the playoff run. The win left the Packers with a 4-12 season, which ties for their worst record since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978.
Green Bay will move swiftly to begin interviewing candidates to replace him including Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress and former Packers' first-round pick and Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis.
In Sherman's six seasons as coach, in which he amassed a 57-39 record, he helped the Packers win three NFC North Division titles. He also won two of the six playoff games the team played in under his direction.

The other direction is Aaron Rodgers, Sherman was a pawn in the Brett Farve retirement game. Brett has stated that If they don't bring him back, he would retire. I do believe that is what managment wants in the first place. They couln't release him but they could force his decision, now we wait for Brett. I do believe he is gone for sure now.

Most teams will look to fill these opening ASAP. The deeper we go into the post season the better of we are at keeping GW.
I don't think he going anywhere anyway, but I thought I'd throw that out there for those that are worried.
Also I don't see him taking a job in Green Bay, Houston, Detroit, Minny or Oakland (when that happens). That only leaves the 2 teams in his home state and both of those front offices are a mess.

There are exceptions - teams will wait if they really want GW - New England lost Crennel and Weiss last year...
I'm just stirrin' the pot and living in the '70s.
I certaintly ain't a Green Bay Packer expert but firing Sherman was a mistake...the guy averaged a 10-6 season for his 6 seasons. I hate the expression teams are using today -- "We want to move in another direction" -- it's the biggest bunch of crap. It really means -- the front office didn't like him, he lost the players, he didn't win enough. The Packer players like Sherman, he was pretty darn successful in his 6 years, so it has to be the front office.
I truly believe a change like this sets GBay back 3 or so years. I sure hope we play them next year, they'll stink.
