does anyone agree that trading for portis is a mistake??
i was out of town for a this past week and i couldn't log on to the net to see what everyone was writing and i couldn't believe that scooter wrote that article about "just say no to denver". clinton portis would be a on a very short dream list of players that i would love to become redskins. actually i was shocked when i heard it was possibility that we could get him...he's a GREAT back and he's only 22!!! denver go ahead and over pay for champ, we'll take portis at a bargin price
.

We won't have him for a bargain price, if you understand that the man is extraordinarily unhappy about his contract. Contrariwise - it will be a bargain compared to Champ, I believe, so it allows us to plug other holes.
I agree that the trade is good, even if the rumor that this is a part of a three way trade to NE for their 2 #1 picks is true. All for it
Get rid of a spoiled brat who thinks he can substitute himself for an entire defensive roster of 11 men and either get a very good, young running back to run behind our very good line, or pick up two #1 picks. We win either way.

exactly, i meant a bargin compared to champ...i think that new england talk is horse $h*t. if we wanted picks why wouldn't we just trade straight up with the lions?? we need a running back i a couldn't ask for a better one than portis right now.

I don't know about that being a bad thing on the picks issue - I would rather have 2 #1's than a first and a third or fourth which is what a lot of teams would have paid.
There is a possibility of the thing with NE cause they aren't happy with their running game, have cap problems and will have to keep a boatload of money for all their picks in a rookie pool. While they are sitting pretty with 2 #1's and 2 #2's, the NFL requires a certain amount for each draft pick to be set aside.
What if we get the picks, take Taylor at 5, take Troupe at their first pick and Greg Jones at their second pick (or vice versa). Wouldn't that fill 3 holes nicely with fresh young talent?

champ would have been a distraction to the team if he had stayed for no other reason than he wanted to leave badly.the redskins got a guy who has the potental to be a hall of fame back in the process.letting chump leave was the right thing to do,now we do'nt have to break the fa bank to sign him,and we got a great rb in return.other than the 2nd round pick, what is there not to like about it?

I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE A BACK LIKE CLINTON PORTIS ON THE REDSKINS. BUT, TO GIVE CHAMP BAILEY AND A DRAFT PICK IS TO MUCH. THE DENVER BRONCOS ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE A 1000+ YARD BACK. SO, THERE OFFENSIVE LINE HAS TO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT. SHUT DOWN CORNERS ARE A LOT HARDER TO FIND THAN RUNNING BACKS. CHAMP BAILEY IS A FOUR TIME PRO BOWLER AND IN MY OPINION THE REDSKINS SHOULD BE GETTING PORTIS AND THE DRAFT PICK. EITHER WAY IT WILL BE GOOD TO HAVE A QUALITY RUNNING BACK OF PORTIS'S CALIBER ON OUR TEAM. I JUST THINK WE GOT THE TRADE BACKWARDS. I SURE HOPE IT WORKS OUT FOR THE GOOD OF OUR REDSKINS.

their hands were tied.bailey wanted to leave so the skins got the best player they could have gotten out of it.the jets were offering 3 picks, but grabbing portis was the smart move.he
is worth more than the 3 fellows they were willing to part with.
