hey everyone, im new to the board even though Iv been coming here for about a year just to see what everyone has to say. Just wanted to get on here and get my feet wet 1 time :D . Does anyone know what the cap numbers are for next year? I was figuring with lavar out we would cut him for cap space but now that he is a defensive captain Im pretty sure that wont happen (which im happy about). Any thoughts on contract extensions that could generate cap space or players that might be cut? Thanks guys!

That obviously isn't up to date because Mike Barrow's still on there but it's good stuff.
I don't know what it WILL be and we won't until next year. It seems go up by about $5 mil every year so I'm guessing it will be $90 mil.
The thing I want to know is this. 2007 is an uncapped year. Can't we just renegotiate a bunch of contracts and even sign new guys and give them massive salaries in 2007 and smaller ones in every other year? You know, say to Lavar here's $500,000 next year, $35 mil in 2007, and then you get another mil a year for the next five.

Welcome to the board. I think people have covered your salary cap questions, so I won't regurgitate their answers, but to Hk, 2007 is only uncapped if a new CBA isn't agreed to before then, so the only way we could do that is in 2007 if it is still uncapped.

Welcome skins2357.
On the cap situation in 2007...
First of all... why on earth would a player sign a contract that had all of his 'eggs in one basket'... meaning, why would he sign a contract where ALL of his money is UNGUARANTEED and in year 2007? What would protect the player from having the team decide they'd rather cut the player and take the cap money?
Nothing would. And that's what the teams would do.
The owners will NOT play without a CBA, so personally, I think it's totally irrelevant that at present, it's an uncapped year. I think the owners wouild lock the players out before they would agree to play without the protection of a cap... because once they let that cat out of the bag... there's no putting it back in.
But this is straying very far away from a welcome thread, so how about we move any further discussion on it to the Football 101 forum (where there are already existing cap threads).
Please and thanks.
