Chiefs fans have been waiting for some time for this matchup

Post by cmh6476 »

Just want to say good luck to you guys this week! NFCE really looks up in the air, and about as competitive as the AFCW. Could be the best two divisions in football, and we have to play each other this year...

Anyways, as Chief fans I must say we've been looking forward to this entire defense being on the field, since this will be Eric warfield's first week back. And we are also looking forward to the return of Willie Roaf who has been absent in each of our losses, as well as the return of John Wellbourne who provides some depth to the OL.

Just thought I'd give you guys a position by position breakdown of what to look forward to this Sunday!

QB:

Trent really hasn't put up any numbers this year. In the first two games, he didn't need to for the wins, but in the last two it seemed the opposing Ds really put some pressure on him and made him look uncomfortable.

I don't want to make it sound like this offense is totally dependent on Roaf, but he is a big part. Trent wasn't as comfortable in the pocket without big Willie on the blind side, and his absence also made our right side weaker. Another key was that the Chiefs had to keep Gonzo back in max protect, to help the tackles in pass coverage. His absence really limited our offense, but now I think we'll be able to do the things we need to do to move the ball.

RBs:

LJ seems to be back in the doghouse a little. He had a costly fumble, and didn't seem to do as well against Philly as Priest did. The Chiefs were going with a set patter (2 series for Priest, 1 for LJ. 2 for Priest, 1 for LJ, etc...). They don't want to be as static from now on, and will be more apt to keeping the guy in there who seems to be hot for the moment. I like the fact they are getting away from the set series, and putting who they feel most confident with for that situation.

Tony Richardson was a bit dinged up in the first couple weeks, and the extra week off should of been beneficial to him.

O-Line:

Back to full strength with our 3 Pro-Bowlers, and C casey Weigmann a former Pro-Bowler as well. Jordan Black moving back to RT also improves that position on the line.

Wide Receivers:

An area that needs to improve. Kennison has played well, but Samie Parker on the other side has not. I am hoping the fact that Gonzo will have more of a presence in the passing game might help what is basically our No. 3 receiver.

Tight Ends:

I've mentioned how Gonzo should be utilized more in the passing game this week. Also worth mentioning is that our best blocking TE, Jason Dunn, was a bit dinged up and should benefit from the extra week off.

D-Line:

This is the area I am most concerned with. Watching the Denver game, I saw your O-Line dominate their D-Line and give Brunell time to throw. That scares me, because our D-Line isn't as good as Denver's line.

What should help (this is a reoccurring theme here) is that Carlos Hall (who we acquired in the offseason) should be back at full strength this week. Something he hasn't been thus far. But if we want to slow down your offense, we have to get some pressure on Brunell. This may well be the key to victory for the Chiefs right there. And on the contrary, if the Skins O-Line can protect Brunell, and open holes for Portis, that may well be their key to victory.

LBs:

Much improved unit from what we had a year ago. Drafted Derrick Johnson in the first round, signed FA Kendrell Bell, and have Kawika Mitchell in the middle now leading this defensive unit.

These guys can play and have a lot of speed. They are going to have to play well this week, as I've seen before what Portis has done to our defense.

Corners:

Biggest news this week is that we get last year's top corner, Eric Warfield back from a 4 game suspension. The kicker is that they may not just hand the job over to him right off the bat. I wish they would, because IMO Dexter McCleon sucks. Patrick Surtain on the other side has played well this season, and now that we have Warfield back I like the talent we have at corner (all the way down to the Dime). It'll be interesting to see what they do with Warfield.

Safeties:

Nice unit here as well. Went out and got SS Sammy Knight in the off-season, moved Greg Wesley back to his natural position (FS), and Jerome Woods is still in the mix pressing those guys to play well.

Kicker:

Lawrence Tynes has been making field goals and booting the ball on kickoffs.

Punter:

Drafted a punter in the third this year, and really has been a solid contributer. He has been booting the ball, and more importantly, giving the return guys fits. Before the season, Dante Hall said he had trouble fielding his punts, and Vermeil said there would be a couple instances throughout the year in which we'd get a couple balls back because of the way he kicks. Both return guys for the Eagles and Raiders muffed a punt each thus far in the season.

HFA:

Huge plus. the crowd will be loud and fired up. We want to see our team back in the playoffs, and now that we have everybody at full strength there are no excuses.

Good luck this week, and the rest of thw way. Look forward to chattin with you guys throughout the week...

Thanks for the input.
I wish the Denver fans were more like this.
They just came on our board talking about how they had the greatest team ever, and wanted us to agree with them.

Welcome to our board cmh6476!

I just posted a new thread on the AFC W versus the NFC E in The League Forum. I agree with you that these two are the best divisions in the NFL. So far, the score is tied at 3 wins per division.

Enjoy your time here!

Welcome.Great info.As a Redskin fan living in Kansas,I get to follow the Chiefs regularly and they are my "adopted" team, though could never replace my love for the 'skins. This should be a whale of a game and fortunately,I will be there. The one thing that worries me more than anything else is the INCREDIBLE noise that the 'Skins will have to deal with at Arrowhead.I am hoping that a long time veteran like MB can handle it cause if not,we will have a lot of false start penalties and unnecessary usage of timeouts.Anyway,it should be a helluva game. And as was said before,it's great to have a poster from the opposing team who can come on and discuss his team and the game intelligently.Chiefs fans are pretty decent folks and they LOVE their team also.I get to see that first hand!

Man, what a cool post. Thanks very much, cmh6476.

I'm not looking forward to this matchup. I kinda thought the skins would beat the Broncos and fall to the Chiefs in these two road games. Its going to be a tough game!

Cool matchup though. Anybody know off hand when we last played the Chiefs? It has to have been a while!

At last, we are at full gear now, hope it stays 'till the end of the season.
As some of you said, we are a much cooler and wiser bunch than the donkeys fans, they think they always have the reason and the truth on their side, and think that those who not follow the donkeys are the lower people and call them names, add the fact that their team sucks as much as the cowgirls.

With Roaf back, look for Gonzo to have a big game against the Skins. That's dude's been chompin' at the bit for a few games. Hopefully, I wrong.

He's seen nothing but pass protection the past few weeks. TG will be ready to go.

I also can't wait for this macthup as well. The Chiefs like to run and we have a great run stop D(Even though they couldn't stop Bell). The "new" D of the Chiefs against Portis and Brunell.

I still think we will win by like 7 points.

28-21 is my prediction. I know the skins scoring 28 points sounds a little off.

noise that the 'Skins will have to deal with at Arrowhead.I am hoping that a long time veteran like MB can handle it

I think if MB can handle the noise combined with bad weather at mile high that he'll be able to handle the crowd at arrowhead pretty well. Or at least better than other QB's have.
As for TG... well we stopped the pass pretty well last week but you guys run a much different scheme and and TG is 10 times better than jeb...trent isnt as mobile as other QB's so I think our secondary can play better pass protection rather than having to worry about rushing the QB every play.
Personally I think we have to worry about TG over the middle and holmes stretching the field, we all saw bell run to the outside... I dont wanna ever see that again!

I think the rain had something to do with the bad tackling that game. Our defense hardly misses tackles.

Great game guys. I made it down and had a nice view. Jared Allen showed why he was made the starter after last year. I said if we could get pressure on the QB, we would probably win. And we did.

Santana Moss had a great game. I think the coaching staff's decision to keep Warfield inactive was stupid. Warfield is a better corner than McCleon, McCleon sucks. Maybe next week they'll suit him up.

Anyways, good luck from here on out. I think you guys have games against Oakland and San Diego still, and we still have to play the Giants and Cowboys. So we can both still do each other a favor 8)

If anything, you have to thank Rock Cartwright's strength trainer, who isn't giving him enough hand or forearm exercises, and the people at the buffet places that overfed the refs, thereby permantly wedging the flags in the refs' pants during the its-a-miracle-no-one-in-a-zebra-uniform-did-not-call-a-hold on Priest's TD run. That was embarassing.

You escaped a humbling defeat at the hands of ANOTHER NFC East team. Congrats on the moral victory of not screwing it up.

that's kinda lame, aint it? There were excuses to be made after we lost to Philly (after being up 18 or whatever). But Philly just came back and kicked our ass.

Your defense is good, but our offense performed better with Willie Roaf back at LT. And our revamped D did just enough to slow the Skins O down, and come away with the victory.

You really think the credit for this victory is due to the refs not throwing a flag?

We lost the games not the refs, but they did help: 4th and inches Priest didnt make it, bad spot by the refs. Think about it we would have been in scoring position already with 5mins left.
