Why would a team want to trade us for Champ Bailey, when he will be a free agent? What does a team have to gain by trading with us for Champ, when they can get him in free agency and not have to give up anything, or get him after we put the francise tag on him and give up less.

Implied is that the Redskins intend to Franchise Tag him after February 24. So, if other teams want Bailey, they'll have to trade for him. They've even got Bailey & his representation doing the footwork for them.

They would trade just to be secure that they'll get him. Most likely, he won't hit FA, the team may franchise him and keep him. Who knows? I think teams would be smart to trade for Champ but whether they use their brains in trying to deal for him will be another matter.
