Baseball Poll of the Week!
I found this poll on espn.com, and I thought it would make for some interesting discussion here.
It's kind of a tough choice if you really think about it.
I think that they are both cheating, and both should not be tolerated. However, I don't think "doctoring" up your equipment is worse than using 'roids. IMO, the 'roids are meant to transform the actual person into a hulk, essentially creating a 'super' athlete. But while doctored equipment certainly can give a player an advantage, that player still has to work hard to hone their skills with such equipment.
As I'm writing this, I am beginning to think there is no difference, and both are bad. I don't know. I'll let you guys decide.

Actually, I was careful in using that term. It is somewhat generic, because it is well-known that many past and present pitchers use odd techniques to get a better grip on a ball. Are they all illegal? Not necesarilly, because they are not all stipulated in the rule book. Also, it is often tough to catch someone using one of these techniques. But technically, anything used to enhance one's performance is construed as cheating, and therefore illegal (illegal = 'bad' in a perfect world).
I say they're "bad," because 'roids, corked bats, sandpaper, etc. are all things used to enhance performance and give certain "cheaters" an edge over their opposition. But in reality, we all know that some people never learn; the pressure is too high, there's too much at stake, and on and on.

I said no because you're not changing your own ability. You're not harming your own body...
"I was on the sideline and guys were talking about the score, and then it hit me -- we won by 21. I came in the locker room and I yelled it out, and immediately I just kind of broke down in tears. Because I miss Sean, you know."
While both "bad", steroids are much worse.
An umpire can catch a pitcher scuffing a ball, corked bats eventually shatter, even Gaylord Perry could get nailed with vaseline, but performance enhancing drugs cannot be caught "on the field" and right now are steps ahead of testing.

This space reserved for BTP......If he ever wins it.

I think corking the bat is a BIG no-no cuz it affects the flight of the ball. But, putting pine-tar on your glove doesn't affect the flight of the ball, it merely keeps the hands dry to give you a better feel of the ball and allow you to throw it the way you want it. I liken it to if you go bowling, you put your hand over the little blower to warm the sweat off of your hand. Pine tar doesn't make the ball do funny things. Now, if it was sand paper or vaseline, that's a different story. In any event, both things are against the rules and warrant penalization.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

All those actions are bad. They are and should be penalised differently but they are all bad.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
