another fat lenny article

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Lennny Fatandsmelly wrote:• LaVar Arrington, Washington (games missed: 12): Even minus Arrington, who seemed at a recent mini-camp to be moving well following two knee surgeries, the Washington defense ranked No. 3 in the NFL in 2004. But imagine what creative coordinator Gregg Williams might be able to scheme up if he can unleash a healthy Arrington on the rest of the league in 2005. Williams has the right stuff, and the ingenuity, to make the petulant Arrington the player he is supposed to be.

• OT Jon Jansen, Washington (games missed: 16): There were myriad reasons for the spotty play of the Redskins blocking unit in 2004, among them a poorly designed passing game, but the Achilles injury Jansen sustained in preseason was foremost. Jansen is a standout right tackle and, just as important, the conscience of the Washington line. His close buddy, quarterback Patrick Ramsey, will be a lot more secure if Jansen can return to his past form.

• Washington officials suspect that wide receiver Rod Gardner, who has been on the trade block for months, will skip the team's formal offseason program. That could mean the price tag for acquiring the former first-round draft pick drops to next to nothing. And that means some team willing to surrender a seventh-round pick in the 2006 draft would be wise to pull the trigger on a deal. Sure, the four-year veteran suffers from some lapses in consistency. And he is more possession receiver than burner. But at age 27, Gardner still has something left, and he did catch 51 passes in 2004 in a poorly-designed attack. Given the paltry investment it will take to land Gardner, the comparative dividend could be a pretty good one.

Can this guy ever write something about us, or our players, without taking shots at us?? Ever?

Can't really say he is right, either, because the execution was awful.

It's not a question of facts with Lenny, it's a question of adjectives. There are many adjectives available to him that he could use to fairly describe the Redskins passing game. But poorly designed is hyperbolic and unnecessary.
If I were editing a writer and he used that phrase in what is ostensibly a news story, I would change it.

Ha ... valid point ... but check out the rest of the piece Lenny wrote, the Redskins are the only example of a decidely negative slant. He's kind to the Lions and the Bears, not exactly stellar franchises.

This is pointless whining, I know that, but if I were the Redskins, I would not issue press credentials to Lenny. He is simply not able to be objective when reporting on the team. Let him trash the team without access to the free buffet.

They are franchises that are tough to hate. Lovable losers, and no Danny boy to point at.
